Fiskmas Adventures Martin recieved the Robens Starlight 2 that he'd ordered, and saw some room for improvements in a few details. In this quick walk-through, he shows what he has done and how.

About the tent: Robens Starlight 2 is a 2 person trekking/hiking tent in a single-pole design, with an (fast) outer first/all-in-one pitch. "2 person" is merely on paper - two persons if they are really small in reality. But, the size is perfect for a hiker with his/her/their rucksack. It features a single door and a vestibule large enough to cook in. The corners are lifted by 4 short poles, which makes the structure strong and rugged. Both the main tent pole and the corner poles are made out of 8.5 mm 7001 aluminium.

The tent floor is from 75D polyestertaft 210T with a hydrostatic head of 10 000 mm, while the flysheet is made of a 75D Hydrotex Ribstop polyester with a hydrostatic head of 5000 mm. It has a truly impressive wind resistance rating: Robens has tested it to withstand winds of 145 km/h (40.3 m/s!) with gusts up to 160 km/h (44.4 m/s!). While the tent is not in the lighter range with its weight of 2.5 kg, the performance statistics more than makes up for it.

Outside of Örebro, more specifically right outside of Klockhammar, is the nature reserve Ullavi Klint, which was established in 2015. Here are also the remains of an old hillfort, whose age ad purpose today are unknown; but it's estimated to be between 1000-3000 years old and probably used as a shelter and protection, but could also have been used for religious ceremonies. Clear is though, that the site is extremely beautiful, with an incredible view, and Martin headed out on a camping trip to see the place.
Enjoy relaxing sounds of nature, pretty views and bird singing.

Finally after a few months of a camping haitus due to several factors, Martin started his vacations and was able to get out in the woods for a wild camping trip by a small, quiet lake. A warm February weekend, with rain and fog on the forecast - a great opportunity to head out for a night in a tent at the top of a closed down ski resort. At least, that was Martin's idea. It was wet, windy and not much of a view at all, except for when he actually arrived to the spot. The place, the Storstenshöjden alpine facility, proved to be a pleasant surprise, apart from the rocky ground that made pitching the tent a bit tricky (which the wind proved later during the night).

SILVERLEDEN | 65 km Hiking in 3 Days | August 2024 [Swedish w/ Eng sub]

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-09-23 | Silverleden är en led belägen i Hällefors kommun, i Örebro län. Totalt är den ~65 km lång och går i en rundslinga, där start och mål sker vid Hurtigtorpets motionsanläggning. Leden bjuder på många vackra utsiktsplatser och omväxlande miljöer, där gamla gruvor, hyttor och andra kulturminnen finns att skymta längs hela vandringen. Det finns gott om vindskydd och rastplatser, men leden är också klassad som svår - vilket Martin och hans kompis Oskar snabbt fick veta varför när de i början av augusti tog sig an utmaningen som visade sig mycket fysiskt krävande.

Silverleden ("The Silver Trail") is a hiking trail located in Hällefors municipality, in Örebro county. In total it is ~65 km long and formed in a closed loop, where it starts and ends at Hurtigtorpet's exercise facility. The trail shows off many beautiful lookout points and changing environments, where old mines, smelteries and other cultural monuments can be found along the whole hike. There are many windbreaks and resting spots, but the trail is also classified as difficult - which Martin and his friend Oskar quickly understood why when they in early August took on the challenge that proved to be very physically demanding.

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-08-08 | Gästrikeleden, vandringsleden som genom Gästrikland sträcker sig ca 270 km, tar vandraren genom ett kulturlandskap som innehåller många arv från förr, allt från ruiner av gruvor och hyttor till fäbodar. Martin vandrade under 4 dagar den 74 km långa sträckan Österfärnebo - Långhäll (Etapp 13-16). Hans plan var att vandra även Etapp 17, till Hemlingby, men det gick inte riktigt som tänkt. Det här är hans färdrapport.

Gästrikeleden, the trail that stretches around 270 km through the province of Gästrikland, takes the hiker through a cultural landscape containing many remains of old, everything from the ruins of mines and mills to chalets. Martin hiked during 4 days the 74 km long stretch from Österfärnebo - Långhäll (Stage 13-16). His plan was to hike Stage 17 to Hemlingby as well, but things didn't really work out as planned. This is his voyage report.

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-05-25 | As May was coming to an end, Martin headed out for a solo camp, Friday and all. After a couple of weeks with great, warm weather, the forecast was cloudy with some light rain expected during the night. The sun did appear, though, to give Martin a pretty sunset to spend the evening together with - possibly Mother Nature making up a bit for the exploding amound of mosquitoes as well as the Timothy grass, which Martin is allergic to.

Cloudy Easter Solo Camp | Robens Starlight 2 | March 2024 [English]

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-03-31 | Easter came up, as it tends to do every year, and Martin headed out for what turned out to be a really gorgeous, although cloudy, trip. The field where he set up camp was muddy and soft, which caused some problems in tensioning the tent properly. In the end he got a pleasant, relaxing trip, with gorgeous views and a concert from the cranes who also visited the field.

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-02-28 | Martin got the opportunity to go out on a little camping trip during the end of February, which he of course didn't let slip by. It was a lot more snow in the area than he had expected, though, and he got a workout trying to get to the spot he'd aimed for. But, in the end, it was definately worth it.

Snowy Forest Wild Camp | Robens Starlight 2 | January 2024 [English]

Fiskmas Adventures 2024-01-13 | At last, Martin got a clearing in his schedule and was able to go for the first overnight camp of 2024. The weather was nice and the sky gave a nice sunset show, temperatures went comfortable 4 degrees below zero during the night and he got to sleep late in the morning after. Sub Zero November Camp | Robens Starlight 2 | November 2023 [English]

Fiskmas Adventures 2023-11-29 | Martin headed out for a night alone in the wild, during late November. The weather was pleasant, though cold as the temperature stayed below 0 degrees the whole trip. When he woke up, even the inner tent had frost on it from condensation, since he didn't open all vents and there was no wind during the night. A lesson to be learned, but you know, at least he survived.

Cold & Wet November Camp | Tent and Bushcraft tarp | November 2023 [Swedish w/ Eng subs]

Gruvdammsrundan | Hiking & Camping | August 2022 [Swedish w/Eng subs]

Fiskmas Adventures 2022-09-09 | Gruvdammsrundan är en kort vandringsled som ligger utanför Sala i Västmanland. Leden är totalt 26 km och går i en cirkel, så att man kan börja och sluta på samma plats, men kan också förkortas genom att ta en genväg. Terrängen är vacker och omväxlande - det är som en lång led i miniformat, där man stöter på alla miljöer man normalt stöter på hos "större" leder (förutom fjäll- och kustmiljö, givetvis). Längden gör leden perfekt för nybörjaren som vill prova på att vandra och tälta, den erfarne som vill "gå in" och testa ny utrustning före längre vandring eller den som bara vill ge sig ut över en helg och/eller inte hinner åka långt.
Martin och Avve ville komma ut på en liten tur, och båda valde att testa sina nya tält för uppgiften. Vädret visade sig från sin blötaste sida, men deras äventyr var roligt och längs vägen träffade de och blev vänner med två andra killar som tänkt göra samma sak. Detta är deras färdrapport.

Gruvdammsrundan (="The mine dam circuit") is a short hiking trail located outside of Sala in Västmanland (central Sweden). The trail is a total of 26 km and forms a circle, so that you can start and finish at the same place, but can also be shortened by taking a shortcut. The terrain is beautiful and changing - it's like a long trail in a mini pack, where you stumble across all the environments you usually see in "bigger" trails (apart from mountain and coastal environments, of course). The distance makes the trail perfect for the beginner who wants to try out hiking and camping, the experienced who wants to "break in" and try out new gear before a longer trek, or the one who just wants to head out over the weekend and/or can't go far.
Martin and Avve wanted to head out for a hike, and they both chose to try out their new tents for the occasion. The weather showed itself from its wettest side, but their adventure was fun and along the way the made friends with two other guys that were out for the same reasons. This is their voyage report.

Bruksleden | 5 Days Solo Hiking in Sweden | June 2022 [Swedish w/Eng sub]

Fiskmas Adventures 2022-06-26 | Bruksleden, som sträcker sig från Västerås i söder till Avesta i norr, är en mycket välskött vandringsled som förtjänar mer uppmärksamhet. Totalt sträcker sig leden ca 250 km, även om alla etapper inte bygger på varandra - vissa formar cirklar eller fungerar som alternativa etapper. Även om den inte tar vandraren genom storslagna naturunderverk, så är det inte mindre en mycket fin upplevelse där man vandrar genom skog, över myrar och kalhyggen, med många vackra tjärn längs vägen och gamla kulturområden från förr. Martin ensamvandrade under 5 dagar sträckan Hallstahammar - Kolpen, via etapperna 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 & 18 och sammanlagt 78 km (planen var också etapp 19 till Örtjärn, vilket ej hanns med). Detta är hans färdrapport.

Bruksleden ("The Mill's Trail"), that stretches from Västerås in the south to Avesta in the north, is a very well taken care of hiking trail that deserves more attention. The trail stretches in total around 250 km, though not all stages continue on each other - some form loops or alternative passages. Even if it doesn't take the hiker through grandiose wonders of nature, it is none the less a very pleasant experience where you're hiking through forests, over bogs and clear-cuts, with many beautiful forest lakes along the way as well as cultural areas from before. Martin made during 5 days a solo hike on the stretch Hallstahammar - Kolpen, via the stages 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 & 18 with a total of 78 km (the plan was to include stage 19 to Örtjärn, which was cancelled due to time restrictions). Naturehike Cloud Up 2: My 5 modifications | June 2022 [English]

Fiskmas Adventures 2022-06-06 | Martin decided to make 5 home modifications to his Cloud Up 2, since he saw some room for improvement on certain details. In this short video, he goes through the mods, how and why. In total, the modifications added about 130 grams to the total weight. Worth it? YES.

About the tent:
Naturehike Cloud Up 2 is a 2 person backpacking/trekking tent. I features a free-standing double-Y pole structure out of aluminium, a practical pack size and a vestibule large enough to cook in.
However - the "2 person" statement is only true, if you are 2 people without any gear. BUT, it is a perfect size for 1 person with a larger rucksack (and/or a dog of a non-horse sized breed).
The double-Y pole creates a tall ridge, although narrow, so the inner space is reminiscent of a classic A-frame/Ridge tent. Despite the shape, the tent can withstand wind in a good manner, and the guy lines works really well in anchoring it down further.
The 20D Nylon version has a 4000 mm hydrostatic head and the tent has a total weight (including the footprint/ground mat) of ~1.8 kg, while the 210T polyester version has a 3000 mm hh and is about 300 grams heavier (but also cheaper).
It has an inner-first pitching, BUT it can also be pitched outer-first since the footprint has clips to attach the flysheet as a tarp. In that configuration the inner tent can be retrofitted from the inside. It takes a bit more time, but it's a handy feature when the rain is pouring down.

Easter Wild Camping | Naturehike Cycling Storage 1 | April 2022 [English]
