All Things HumanitiesWestern countries are characterised by their democratic political systems, the prominence of Western religions like Judaism and Christianity and the uptake of capitalism. We are often told that the Industrial Revolution is what drove Europe and North America to become capitalist countries during the 1800s, providing the modern world with new medical devices, machinery and computer technologies.
However, the German sociologist Max Weber argued that this was false because the rise of capitalism was not a result of economic factors but rather capitalism was deeply connected to the values and beliefs of Protestant Christians.
Max Weber's "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism" is a profound work in the field of sociology that explores the connection between the rise of capitalism and the Protestant work ethic. The purpose of this video is to understand how Protestant Christianity was critical in the development of capitalism and how it has shaped the world today.

Islamic civilization refers to the complex and rich cultural, scientific, and socio-political developments that emerged from the Islamic world, spanning from the 7th century onwards. This civilization is characterized by its vast geographical reach, diverse cultural influences, and significant contributions to various fields of knowledge and arts. Islamic civilization began with the advent of Islam in the 7th century CE, marked by the Prophet Muhammad's mission in Mecca and Medina. Following Muhammad's death, the Rashidun, Umayyad, and Abbasid Caliphates expanded Islamic rule across a vast territory, from the Iberian Peninsula in the west to the Indian subcontinent in the east. Islamic civilization has clashed with the West, Orthodox and Buddhist civilizations just to name a few and its expansion facilitated the exchange of ideas, cultures, and technologies among diverse populations and continues to remain as a significant cultural and political force today. This video is a deep dive into Islamic civilization, examining its historical origins, ideology, and its current socio-cultural impacts. Get ready for an intriguing and exciting investigation into one of the world’s most significant civilisations.Aboriginal Australia before European destruction. All Things Humanities2024-07-11 | Aboriginal culture in Australia before European colonisation was rich, diverse, and deeply connected with the land. By the 1480s, Portuguese ships were already transporting Africans to work as slaves on sugar plantations in the Cape Verde and Madeira islands in the eastern Atlantic. Spain and Portugal established colonies in the New World around 1500, initially enslaving local Indigenous people. However, as European diseases and violence took a toll on native populations, they increasingly turned to enslaved Africans. By the 17th century, Britain, France, and Holland also established colonies in the New World, relying on African slave labor. The triangular trade emerged: European ships carried manufactured goods to Africa, exchanged them for enslaved people, and then transported these captives across the Atlantic to the Americas.
What was the effect of this? Africans were spread all around the American continent with a loss of identity. Lets not forget that African Americans now have unequal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities that continue to affect their lives. This video will unpack the transatlantic slave trade and how it impacted African Americans.

This year, tens of thousands of Australians protested against Australia Day, arguing that the 26th of Janruary marks the arrival of European colonists more than 200 years ago.
In Sydney, Melbourne and several other cities, thousands of “Invasion Day” protesters on Friday demanded that the date of the annual Australia Day celebrations be changed. Should the date of Australia Day be changed to acknowledge the terrors of British colonisation or should Australia’s national day remain on the 26th of January? This video will unpack the history of Australia Day and its social and political ramifications. Why Americans are allowed to have guns: The reasons for the right to bear arms in the United States. All Things Humanities2024-01-07 | There are only a few countries in the world that have the right to bear arms. Some of these countries include Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras with the most profound being the United States of America. In 2021, 48,000 people died from gun-related injuries in the United States. Many Americans lobby and protest against current U.S gun laws, with many seeing the right to bear arms in the United States as outdated and irrelevant. Why does the US Constitution possess the right to bear arms and is it still relevant in the 21st century? The purpose of this video is to investigate the history of the 2nd amendment in America, its rationale and discuss the arguments for and against the right to bear arms in the United States.

The British arrived in Australia in 1788 and throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, they imposed gruelling policies on the Aboriginal Australians to establish superiority and a British way of life. Some of these policies totally destroyed Indigenous culture, leading to poor health outcomes, lower life expectaty and total social dysfunction for the Indigenous population today. The British colonisation of Australia has had detrimental impacts on Indigenous Australians living in the 21st century, with current politicians trying to rectify the problem. The purpose of this video is to investigate the colonial history of Australia and better understand how Aboriginal Australians were devastated by colonisation.

Originating in Ancient Greece, secularism is the idea that religion should be separated from civil affairs and the state, seeking to remove or minimise the role of religion in any public sphere. A secular world view has encouraged societies to promote virtues like freedom of speech and freedom of religion and it has helped stop religious conflicts throughout human history. In this sense, secularism has helped human beings of all religious groups to look past their theological differences and instead, recognise each other’s humanity. That being said, secularism still contains a lot of faults. Religion has, for the most part, been pivotal in providing meaning in people’s lives and secularism wants to minimise it and in some cases, throw it all away. In this video, we will look into what secularism is, its contributions to society and the problems with it in the 21st century. I hope you enjoy this video and You’re watching All Things Humanities.

Many people look at the Crusades, where Pope Urban called for an armed assault on the Seljuk Turks, to reclaim the Holy land in Jerusalem. We are often held that it was Christianity that caused the Crusades, where the Knights Templar and the Crusaders marched across Europe and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the name of God.
At a surface level, you may think that religion and Christianity was the sole cause of this but there is more to the story than that.
But what if I told you that Jesus, the most important figure in Christianity, would have been opposed to such war? What if the Crusades was more about survival, power and politics and not the teachings of Jesus and Christianity? After all, Jesus did say ‘You shall not murder’, and the Crusaders clearly did this on a mass scale. The purpose of this video is to look at the Crusades, why they happened and why Jesus of Nazareth would have opposed it.

Bible Gateway biblegateway.comWhy Communism Hates Religion. All Things Humanities2023-01-20 | On social media, we often hear conversations about communism, how it killed millions of people and how it hated religion. Karl Marx, the father of communism once said that ‘Religion is the opium of the people’. He also thought that religion is the ‘sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world and the soul of soulless conditions. Marx thought that despite the suffering that comes from capitalism, religion provided an outlet to that suffering. People could worship deities and attempt to understand that their own sufferings originate from their own sinful lives.
Why on earth did the Communists hate religion so much that they burnt and closed down churches and mosques, enforced atheism in schools and sent priests into labour camps? This video is dedicated to understanding Why Communism Hates Religion.

A thousand years later, Zoroastrianism, the world’s first great monotheistic religion, was the official faith of the mighty Persian Empire, with millions of adherents. A thousand years after that, the empire collapsed, and the followers of Zoroaster were persecuted and converted to the new faith of their conquerors, Islam. Today – Zoroastrianism is a dying faith, its sacred flames tended by ever fewer worshippers.
The demographics of religious belief are changing rapidly in the world and this cannot go without significant social change. Religious beliefs and ideologies have a profound impact on how human beings view the world and the decisions they make. With Islam and New Age religions on the rise and Christianity declining in the Europe and growing in Africa, the 21st century will be full of surprises.
This video will focus on the religious trends of the Americans, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The purpose of this video is to understand the changing landscape of religious belief in the world and what that could mean for the future of humanity.
The Left overwhelmingly want government policies to be separate from religion and the Right seek the opposite, with this being a key difference between both political groups.
To understand this topic we will look at the historical contexts of the right and left alongside their philosophical basis for their positions.

In Islam, worshipping other Gods is considered ‘shirk’ meaning to believe in other deities other than Allah. According to Islamic jurisprudence, those who do should be ousted from the Muslim community and all their legal rights should be suspended until they renounce their polytheistic belief, that is to reject it.
In the Islamic world, there is a case to be made that Mohammad, the Prophet of Islam committed this sin. This incident is known as the Satanic Verses where the prophet Muhammad is recorded praising Meccan goddesses Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and Al-Manat. How can the most strict monotheistic religion have its own Book recognise the existence of other gods? Doesn’t this totally disregard the core beliefs of Islam? The prevalence of wokeism and moral relativism, the idea that right and wrong do not exist is encouraging conservative reactions in the public. Believe it or not, but the Scottish-American philosopher, Alasdair MacItyre, knew all of this would happen.
MacIntyre argued that the age of Enlightenment caused a moral catastrophe in the West because it destroyed the building blocks of morality itself. MacIntyre argued that Western civilization had built its moral values off human nature and the age of Enlightenment through this all away. Alasdair MacIntyre thought that the Enlightenment thinkers ‘set out to replace traditional forms of morality using a secular reasoning that did not respect man’s nature or man’s purpose. Instead what the Enlightenment did was destroy Aristotle’s notion of a virtuous life that had shaped Western thought for nearly two thousand years. The Age of Enlightenment rejected the idea of the telos, the idea that the universe and all things worked in a particular way and it was in man’s best interest to respect that purpose. For example, men and women were supposed to procreate and human beings are supposed to strive towards the highest good.
Moreover, Aristotle and other monotheistic religions taught that human beings, like all objects in the world, exist for a purpose and acting morally was to fulfill each individual’s purpose. In this video, we are going to understand the fantastic Alasdair MacIntyre, his philosophy and why he is so critical for the cultural and moral transformation of the West. Youre probably a Deist - Deism ExplainedAll Things Humanities2022-08-16 | When speaking about religion, attention is often brought to the five major world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. These traditions dominate public religious life and for that reason, they grab a lot of attention in the world. During the early 17th century, which is commonly known as the Age of Enlightenment, a philosophical movement developed where intellectuals, philosophers and theologians saw moral and social problems with organised religions. Biblical stories were in contradiction with new scientific discoveries and as a result, these thinkers began to use ‘reason’ to attempt to understand knowledge of the divine and absolute truth. It can be understood as the ‘religion of nature’, meaning that one could understand God through reason, rationality and an objective inquiry into natural phenomena. This movement was called Deism and in this video, we will be looking to understand this philosophy, including its historical origins, its rationality and also its criticisms in the 21st century. The Natural History of Religion. “The primary religion of mankind arises chiefly from an anxious fear of future events; and what ideas will naturally be entertained of invisible, unknown powers, while men lie under dismal apprehensions of any kind, may easily be conceived. Every image of vengeance, severity, cruelty, and malice must occur, and must augment the ghastliness and horror which oppresses the amazed religionist. .. And no idea of perverse wickedness can be framed, which those terrified devotees do not readily, without scruple, apply to their deity.” (Section XIII)Why Religious People Are Happier. All Things Humanities2022-08-11 | In the 21st century, discussions about well-being, happiness and mental health are often spoken about. We are bombarded with advertisements and campaigns about these ideals and when speaking about happiness, religion is eventually brought into the conversation. In the United States, ‘actively religious people are more likely to describe themselves as ‘very happy’ in comparison to those who are less religious in the US. The same study tells us that ‘people who are active in religious congregations tend to be happier and more civically engaged than those who are unaffiliated to a religion. This is a point worth noting, given we have been told by particular intellectuals like Christopher Hitchens that religion is evil and as he says it ‘poisons everything’. In this video, we will be looking at why religious people are ‘happier’ and attempt to understand the psychological, spiritual and sociological basis for this occurrence. Peter Zeihan, a political strategist sees this picture very differently, arguing that China lacks many qualities to overtake the United States of America. Contrary to popular opinion, Peter Zeihan insists that the CHinese system is facing collapse and in this video, we will look at Peter Zeihan’s views on the future of China to see why China, as a country, will not last this decade. Nietzsche believed that the age of enlightenment had eliminated the possibility of the existence of God with discoveries in science and philosophy supposedly delegitimizing belief. For example, science showed us that we had no reason to believe in mythological creatures, delegitimizing any religious story that involved such beings. In the early 2000s, new atheism came to power with thinkers such as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens and Daniel Dennett (4 Horsemen), publicly criticising religion, superstition and quote un quote ‘irrationalism’. All 4 of these men have been inspired by the Enlightenment but have extended their thinking to disregard God and belief in its entirety.
These ideas are also prevalent in other contemporary thinkers such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Stephen Fry. This cultural movement gripped millions of followers through the media as these thinkers began to dominate public intellectual discourse. However, in 2022, there seems to be a resurgence of religious and spiritual guided thinkers such as Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro and the Sadhguru who have been able to rebut some of the claims held by the New Atheists. Instead, these figures have climbed to popularity, recognising God, creation and the divine in their works. This video will aim to evaluate the intellectual history of the early 21st century and potentially decipher whether we are experiencing a Renaissance in 2022. While in 2022, we refer to ancient Greek religion as ‘mythology’, yet we are still seeing the practice of Greek religion in the 21st century. Except for in Ethiopia. All Things Humanities2022-07-20 | The Orthodox Church is in Decline. Orthodox Christians have been declining as a share of the overall Christian population and the overall global population. The faster growth of Protestants, Catholics and non-Christians has meant that the Orthodox Church is becoming smaller and smaller in the world’s population. While Orthodoxy collapses, it is strongly emerging in Africa and specifically, Ethiopia. Ethiopia has the largest Orthodox Christian population outside Europe, and, by many measures, Orthodox Ethiopians have much higher levels of religious commitment than do Orthodox Christians in the faith’s heartland of Central and Eastern Europe. In this video, we will be looking at why the Orthodox population has been in decline and why Ethiopia is now the world’s second largest Orthodox population after Russia. For some, it has been the source of morality and for others it has been rather an aid to moral improvement. For some thinkers like Thomas Aquinas, all ethical principles were discernible by human reason alone, with Christ and the apostles adding a few details to the moral law and the laws of the universe. This is worth noting with the topic of homosexuality, which in 2022 is more prevalent than ever. The growing acceptance of homosexuality in Western culture has raised concerns with Enlightenment inspired thinkers and traditional understandings of Christianity and Christian culture. This is because a large portion society think that homosexuality is in direct conflict with Christian teaching and in this video, we will be attempting to understand whether this is true. To answer this question, I will be investigating both the Old Testament and the New Testament to determine whether homnosexuality is a sin in the Christian tradition. The Ugyhur population are mostly a Muslim ethnic group in the north-western China with an approximated population of 12 million. bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-22278037Why Christianity is in Decline in the West. All Things Humanities2022-07-04 | A key pillar to Western history is the belief in God and particularly the Judeo-Christian worldview. Movements such as the Renaissance in Europe helped the West find a delicate balance between religious belief and scientific advancement, which helped Europe become the hub of progress and prosperity. In the West, religious belief and specifically Christianity has been in steady decline. In this video, I will be unpacking why the West has been steering away from Christianity. For the purposes of this video, I will be focussing on the religious demographics of Europe and the United States. I hope you enjoy this video and you’re watching All Things Humanities.
