Three Adventures with Mr. Bill Lloydel Pictures 2019-06-26 | These were originally three separate skits we filmed over the course of about a year, based on the Saturday Night Live character created by Walter Williams. The Mr. Bill skits that used to air sporadically on SNL were a rare treat when I was a kid. He would only appear on the show a few times a year, and I was rarely lucky enough to be allowed to stay up late to watch the show. This made Mr. Bill sort of a sacred unicorn to my generation; we all knew about him and his unfortunate exploits, but we rarely had the opportunity to actually see him.And so, this was our attempt to offer our own version of the hapless little fellow. We were not kind to him, as the sadistic trials we put him through will attest. It turns out there are few things more dangerous to our Play-Doh pal and his dog Spot than a couple of bored 17-year-olds in 1989.Sorry, Mr. Bill.
Point B Lloydel Pictures 2019-06-10 | This was the test footage we shot in the summer of 1989 in preparation to film a movie we were planning to make titled, "Point B."Some of the footage would almost certainly have made the final cut, but there were a few parts we would have reshot (like the fight scene, for example).These clips are presented with almost no context, other than the intro that explains what the movie would have been about. It's draggy, and a bit boring, but it should be interesting for those who participated to see a glimpse of what we were doing thirty years ago. Otherwise, this is just a series of nameless characters traveling through a nameless forest on a nameless mission.

High School Graduation Family Party - 1989 Lloydel Pictures 2019-06-06 | Filmed on June 10th, 1989, this is the family party for my High School graduation. It's not great footage, that's for sure, but it does manage to capture one of those lost moments in time. It's difficult for me to wrap my mind around the fact that my mother is younger than I am now when this was filmed. And I treasure the footage of my father and I engaged in some backyard wrestling. I don't have a lot of film of him, so what little I do possess helps me to preserve his memory.Non-relatives will not find much to enjoy in this boring backyard family party, but this is the sort of stuff that reminds me of another place in time that exists now only in my memory... and thankfully, on this video.

The first is a few clips of my cousins Dawn and Mary at the pool party of their cousin Sandra. The second clip was shot at the Leate family's cottage in New Hampshire. It looks like they're holding some sort of "Kid Olympics" out in the street. The third clip is of my cousin Dawn waiting for the bus on her first day of 4th grade. I cut it to the songs "Iko Iko" by the Belle Stars and "Go!" by Tones on Tail. In the video, you get a fairly good sense of the chaotic ins and outs of a typical High School party in the late 80s. I recall this one being relatively tame and I believe it was remarkably devoid of any actual fights.I've cut out anything that I feel would be too incriminating or embarrassing for those who are presumably much older and wiser now. I'm also choosing to upload it on our friend Mark Brinkman's 48th Birthday. Ice Cream Town - 1989 Lloydel Pictures 2017-10-23 | This video was filmed at a local ice cream shop called Ice Cream Town in Hanover, MA in 1989. It was a popular hangout for High School kids and this video is a fairly good representation of what it might look like on a given night.The owner of the business was very hands-off and became increasingly so as the months wore on. Eventually, she seemed to disappear entirely. Employees were showing up to work but weren't getting paid any longer. The food and supplies were all running low, and eventually all what was left was a bucket of pistachio ice cream. Customers would come in to buy an ice cream and the kid on duty would be like, "We have one flavor. Would you like a small or a large?"This video was shot before things got that bad, but it wasn't too long after when things started to go downhill. We were tasked to do a project for U.S. History and we chose to do a video of The Boston Tea Party.We shot most of it on location at The Boston Tea Party Museum in Boston, and I recall we were given lots of unexpected cooperation from the staff there.Obviously, we weren't overly concerned with historical accuracy. That should be evident from the terrible costumes and woeful dialog, but it did earn us a B+ for our efforts. I specifically remember Mr. Shoenig saying that he would have given us an A, but seeing all those sneakers and a camouflage jacket ruined his enjoyment of it somewhat. A fair point, Mr. Shoenig, a fair point.

This is the edited version of that video.The first section is set to the song "Paradise City" by Guns & Roses and functions as a highlight real of the whole trip.The second section is set to the "Hawaii 5-0 Theme" and captures the day we spent at Hanauma Bay. Here you'll witness what was certainly the most dangerous moment of the trip. The underground tunnel we swim through was totally submerged and required some fighting against the current to reach the end. Reading about how many people have drowned attempting the same feat in this now closed off section of the bay always makes me feel a little unsettled.The third and final section is set to the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World." It includes some of the more pensive moments and beautiful shots recorded on the vacation.In all, the video is an ode to friendship, and I'm proud to say that we've maintained that friendship over the course of our lives.

CYO Basketball 1988 Lloydel Pictures 2014-11-20 | CYO Basketball 1988Approximate Film Date: October 1988By the approach of winter, 1988, I had the filming of a few paid wedding gigs under my belt. Word had spread among the circles of people that I knew, and those who knew my family. Around this time David Setterland contacted me about filming a series of basketball games for the South Shore CYO Basketball League and creating a compilation video for an end-of-season banquet. I happily agreed and this is pretty much the result of what I was able to put together.Back then, my only film and editing equipment was my trusty Panasonic Omnimovie camera and a pair of 4-head VCRs. Editing was EXTREMELY difficult. It was all about understanding the timing of your devices and finessing your cuts as best as possible. Inevitably, this type of editing resulted in the frequent "rainbow bars" and tape disruptions you will see if you watch this video.Now that I'm able to revisit it with my modern equipment and sophisticated editing tools, I was able to clean it up a little bit, add new titles, and fix a few of the awkward cuts. Unfortunately, I had recorded over all the original tapes so completely recutting it with the source footage was not an option.Still, those who were participants or organizers of the CYO Basketball League from 1988 might find something to love here. I hope they all can find there way here to enjoy it. If you see someone you know that appears in the video, be sure to point them in this direction.

Cadens Reaction to Darth Vaders Secret in Empire Lloydel Pictures 2014-03-05 | After having watched Star Wars: A New Hope over and over again for the past year and a half, my son finally got to watch The Empire Strikes Back on his fifth birthday. This movie meant more to me than any other movie in my life, so sharing it with Caden was something I was very much looking forward to. While I know the movie can never mean to him exactly what it meant to me (the world of entertainment is just too different now), his growing love of the Star Wars universe has allowed me to vicariously return to it all through him.This is pretty much the reaction I expected of him, and probably mirrors in some small way the look that was on my face when I first saw the film back in 1980.
