This week over 300 states, international organisations, and civil society delegates will meet in Paris in order to discuss the climate crisis, poverty, and how reforming our international financial system could help both.
Conversations started over these two days will continue at the G20 Summit in September, with final decisions from governments around the world coming at COP28 in November.
One stated goal of the Pact Summit is to move more money into the hands of countries at the frontlines of the climate crisis. Barbados's proposed Bridgetown Initiative would do just that.
On the evening before the Pact summit begins we want to highlight that real climate justice can only emerge from broad alliances: when climate activists, employees fighting for their jobs, frontline communities directly affected by climate impacts, pensioners defending their right to stop working, etc. are organising together.
The goal of this evening is to discuss our vision of a future free of fossil fuel industry, the power of community, and coming together globally to achieve this and what we could do if world leaders decide to tax the rich and socialise the profits of Total, Exxon, BP, etc.

Tommy Vickerstaff, @350.uk campaigner, said governments should impose tougher taxes on oil companies’ “obscenely high” profits.
“The UK government has consistently failed to adequately tax these profits despite everyone’s bills going up and millions more people being pushed into fuel poverty.”
We must demand that these companies are not allowed to hoard wealth whilst the ordinary people, workers and families are forced to choose between heating and eating.Turn up the heat on Biden and end the era of fossil fuels!350.org2023-05-05 | Starting this June, we’re mobilizing across the United States to turn up the heat and make Biden take real climate action – by ending the era of fossil fuels. EACOP: A crude reality” puts the spotlight on the negative socio-economic and environmental impacts posed by the planned East African Crude Oil Pipeline. The film features the testimonies of communities directly affected by the Total Energies’ mega project as well as activists raising alarm on the threats posed by the pipeline to livelihoods, sensitive ecosystems and the climate. The pipeline, which will run from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania has been the center of controversy globally, following sustained opposition by community members and climate activists.
Climate activists under the Stop EACOP coalition have been unrelenting in calling on financial institutions to distance themselves from the proposed pipeline, resulting in 24 commercial banks and 18 (re)insurers committing to not supporting the project. Throughout this period they resisted wildfires, harsh winter conditions, and coal company’s attempts to cut down the trees.
The whole region of Milas should have been the symbol of fertile lands and olive groves. Instead, it has been poisoned by two coal power plants, and the livelihood of the villagers has been destroyed by coal mining activities for the last 40 years. In July 2021, when the coal company entered the Akbelen Forest, villagers of İkizköy said “enough is enough” and put their bodies on the line to stop the cutting of the trees. Since then the Akbelen watch camp has become a strong buffer to stop the coal expansion.
This is the story of the protectors of Akbelen Forest and their fight against the coal expansion.Jane Armstrong - Remembering the 2021 Heat Dome in Western Canada350.org2022-07-19 | We asked people from across Canada how climate disasters have impacted their communities and to share their vision for a better future.
