Video by NOOTBRAFA Art Talk on Paul Delvaux by Camille BrasseurBRAFA Art Fair2024-03-14 | The 2024 BRAFA Art Fair edition was all about surrealism. With the Paul Delvaux Foundation as guest of honour, the fair programme included an Art Talk given by Camille Brasseur, Director of the Foundation Paul Delvaux Museum, on Tuesday 30 January 2024.
Speaking about "Paul Delvaux (1897-1994). From Clear Dawn to the End of the Day", the lecture traced the development of Paul Delvaux's work throughout his different periods and up to the emergence of his own style. It was an excellent opportunity to highlight the recurrence of themes dear to the artist and to establish links between the little-known early works and the masterpieces. The itinerary is an invitation to discover both the work and the man, since they are intrinsically linked.

With its spectacular dimensions, this circa 1948 coupe "Oblongue" is at once a bowl and a sculpture. It gives the feeling of a freshly unearthed artefact and moves between a sculpture and an everyday object. Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman and printmaker Alberto Giacometti was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. His work was mainly influenced by artistic styles such as cubism and surrealism. Philosophical questions about the human condition and existential and phenomenological debates played an important role in his work. He is particularly widely known for his figurative œuvre that is iconic and of an incomparable style.
Visit the BRAFA Art Fair at Brussels Expo until 4 February 2024 and make sure to spot this highlight at the Mathivet Gallery.

Martin Margiela’s visual practice spans a broad range of media, including painting, sculpture, installation, collage and film. His works attest to his fondness for the overlooked and unconventional. Margiela magnifies both disruptions and poetic junctions, seeking beauty in the fleeting. He believes that objects are always in a state of transformation, and he is intrigued by the marks of time. Important sources of inspiration for the artist are the human body, epidermis and hair, as well as the urban environment as an infinite place of wonder. Margiela’s work is dedicated to the unknown and the surprising, in combination with an exceptional sensibility for materials.

Video by NOOT.BRAFA 2024: a rare Lynn Chadwick sculpture revealedBRAFA Art Fair2024-01-29 | Tune in as Tania Sutton, Director of Osborne Samuel Gallery, delves into an exceptional Lynn Chadwick bird sculpture of 1958, now to be seen at the BRAFA Art Fair 2024.
Osborne Samuel is a long-established gallery and one of London’s leading specialists in Modern British painting and sculpture. This semi-abstracted winged figure, which they present on their stand 6 at the international BRAFA Art Fair, continues to develop some of the imagery seen in Chadwick’s work of the early 1950s, a period during which Chadwick began to create a menagerie of fantastical beasts. See how magnificently it's captured mid-launch, as beating wings lift its body into the air. It is a being which straddles the divide between the familiar and unfamiliar: with a recognisable form which represents that of a bird, but with the angular armature which is more in line with its prehistoric predecessor.
Make it to BRAFA 2024 at Brussels Expo until 4 February to see this and many more treasures up close.

The painting in question is a rare 1950s mass writing by Judit Reigl (1923 - 2020). The Hungarian artist escaped communism in the late 1940s and emigrated to France, where she developed in the spirit of abstract expressionism. An extraordinary woman with an extraordinarily powerful gestural language, whose work will be on display at Galerie Dina Vierny.

#brafaartfair #artnews #artmarket #internationalartfairGuest of Honour Arne Quinze brings nature, colour and joy to BRAFA Art Fair 2022BRAFA Art Fair2021-10-26 | The international BRAFA Art Fair will make a colourful comeback to an on-site version of the fair at Brussels Expo from 19 - 26 June 2022. The Guest of Honour will be the Belgian contemporary artist Arne Quinze, who draws his inspiration from the beauties of nature.
Arne Quinze began his career in the 1980s as a graffiti artist. He has always questioned the role of our cities and began a quest for cities to become open air museums. His work quickly evolved from Street Art to Public Art with recurring themes of social interaction, urbanisation and diversity.
At BRAFA 2022, Arne Quinze will be exhibiting large-format paintings including a quadriptych inspired by the “four seasons”, a series of works on paper, a monumental sculpture, and spatial, sound and video installations, not to mention the design for this edition’s carpet.
Each of his creations is preceded by a meticulous and admirative observation of the large wildflower garden that surrounds his studio, located in the small village of Sint-Martens-Latem, which was formerly the centre of Flemish Expressionism.
The MARUANI MERCIER gallery has represented Arne Quinze since 2018.

Three years after Permeke passed away, in 1952, his children renounced one of his most famous masterpieces. An Antwerp diamond merchant became the new owner, who shortly after emigrated to the United States. Museum directors and official instances lost track of 'Woman cutting the bread'.
In 1987 the painting came into the hands of a Belgian collector. After being privately owned for over 30 years – and prior to that being in the US for over 30 years – today, Permeke's exceptional canvas is available on the art market again, in the BRAFA in the Galleries exhibition at Oscar De Vos in Sint-Martens-Latem. The art connoisseur has a deep-rooted passion for modern Flemish art dating from 1880 to 1940. His gallery opened in 1968, focusing on Latem School paintings, drawings and sculptures.
