(last post I promise)Professor Hafner2023-04-18 | Here are some moments throughout the morning trying to see the launch on April 17. As you probably know it was scrubbed over a stuck valve. Maybe it will go on 4/20! I don't regret the trip at all. Seeing Starbase and the rockets up close was worth it.
If you ever try to see a Starbase launch in person, here is my advice. You will read that the best viewing is at Isla Blanca Beach Park at the very tip of the island. That is true, but to get a good spot you will fight a large crowd and have to come very early if you are staying off the island (which is cheaper). However, unless you (1) have fancy camera equipment and are trying to get high quality photos or (2) want to hang out with the serious space nerds, I don't think it is necessary to go there. You can get a good view from a hotel on the island or a beach at that end. Also, it would be much better to stay on the island the night before the launch to avoid having to cross the bridge during the rush. NASA Spaceflight recommends a place called Margaritaville Beach Resort. From Rice to StarbaseProfessor Hafner2023-04-17 | Here is approximately what it would look like if you traveled from Rice University to Starbase, TX with a boost burn at 12 m/s^2 and break at -12 m/s^2.
