This is a reorchestration of the song that plays as you're picking the characters and map in Mario Party 3. I'm satisfied with the way the cello turned out for the lead line.

Such an iconic song from my childhood! In this piece, I explorer the Wii Sports that might have been, if Nintendo had hired an amateur composer instead of Kazumi Totaka!
This was my first time doing automation over the pass filter's frequency setting, that's what gives the sweeping "spacey" sound to the string instruments. I also learned how to use Audacity's limiter to dial back the audio peaks from the bass kick.
I am usually a big fan of Nintendo's reorchestrations - see Throwback Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy 2 as an example that I consider spot-on. However, I didn't like Nintendo's reorchestration of Route 110 for Omega Ruby/Sapphire.
I will just come out and say this rather than beating around the bush: I think that Nintendo's official Omega Ruby/Sapphire orchestration of Route 110 is very weak. It kills all of the energy of the original Ruby/Sapphire tune in a few ways: (1) The secondary instruments (behind the lead line) muddle together due to there being so much going on in the upper-mid range. The use of panning to separate instruments is not enough to counteract that. This results in a lead line that doesn't feel like it has a supporting secondary instrument/melody for a good part of the tune. In the original, the secondary line was always very clear, and the role was handed off between a second horn, third horn, and violin which were all easy to distinguish by ear due to octave and panning. (2) Perhaps due to all the secondary instruments competing for the mid-high range, the playful call-and-response between lead and secondary horns are lost, which was not just a major theme in the original song but defined the very identity of the Ruby/Sapphire OST. (3) In the Omega version, the bass line adds rhythmic complexity that needlessly draws attention and energy away from the lead and secondary lines, while rhythmically competing with the drum line. This makes the piece feel more crampt and rigid, rather than open and sprawling like the original. (4) The homogeneity of the instrumentation make the song feel like it isn't progressing. Whereas in the original Ruby/Sapphire tune we have a bassline that's carried in turn by a tuba, viola, and chiptune instrument, in the official Omega orchestration we get the bass line being carried by the same *exact* bass instrument throughout the entire song, which contributes to the stagnation of energy across sections of the piece. (5) Final nitpick. In the official Omega orchestration, the horns buzz too much on attack. Like a bee. Listen to it with a decent headset and you'll hear what I mean.
In my rendition I wanted to emphasize the interplay between lead and secondary lines from the original, as well as introducing a new dialogue between the brass and string sections to give it my own twist. I know the arrangement is far from perfect, and I can't say it's better than Nintendo's orchestration, but I did spend a lot of time trying my best to build on what made the original song successful and I hope you appreciate my arrangement!
This song started as a question with a friend. He told me about a solo string software instrument he had, and I said I already have one that sounds pretty good. So I threw a few notes together for him as a demo, just to play him the software instrument I had, and I asked him "hey, do you recognize this song? I made my violin and cello play it lol". Later on I finished it because I love the song.
I almost put "ft. Bagpipes" in the title, but I figured it would probably drive people off. So, surprise bagpipe appreciation time for you. Hope you enjoyed it.
This song was kind of a pipe dream for me due to its complexity, so I'm quite proud that I handled the arrangement decently if I do say so myself. I do my arrangements by ear, so for this song I had to slow down the original track using Audacity so I could hear all the notes.
I heard this song for the first time last week and thought it was really sick, so here is my interpretation of it. I liked the first part of this song but thought the second part was just OK, so I didn't use much of the second part and instead improvised a new one on my own.
Game and Watch Gallery 4 has some of the most underrated music in the entire Nintendo music library. The melodies on these games are just golden. This is my take on the Fire game background music!
Most of the Mario Kart games have incredible menu music IMO, from MK64 which is repetitive but has a great beat, to Double Dash with its great melody, to the jazzy MK7 menu music, to Mario Kart 8 (my favorite) with the electric guitar and its embedded Super Mario Kart remix! This video presents an update to the Mario Kart DS Single Player Menu song :)
I was listening through old Nintendo songs on KHInsider and this one caught my ear. I orchestrated it using EWQL and FL Studio. Must be disorienting drifting down through the cold, dark sky.
So I was 3/4 of the way through this song when I realized that Nintendo already did an official orchestration of this with horns and all - it appears at 66 seconds into the Mario Kart 8 Title Theme, no wonder it sounds familiar I guess... Anyway here it is, I had fun putting in the little bits of piano improv, so it has some personal touches at least. Created with EWQL and FL Studio. Enjoy!
Shiver Snowfield, probably my singular favorite tune from Paper Mario 64. The title is representative of my rise from the "snow" of poor health. Orchestrated using EWQL and FL Studio.

Anyway it's a casual side scrolling game where the focus is on efficiency rather than dexterity. Its demo was one of the finalists for the campus-wide UC Santa Cruz Sammy Game Awards, so I got to present it in front of hundreds of people!
And it was one of the finalists for Sound Design /)^3^(\
It's going to have an original piano and violin soundtrack by me, and as many fun levels as we can possibly create to explore (I'm working with a classmate and good friend of mine). So look forward over the next month or two to a couple miscellaneous videos I've been saving up, and at the end I'll do a teaser trailer and hopefully launch this fall!

Anyway, I think I found the one song from Tribes: Ascend that would lend itself the best to a note block rendition. I know it's not perfectly true to the original (I know it's a bit fast), but I didn't have much to work with. Enjoy!
