The video for "High School Never Ends," the lead single from Mykki Blanco's as-yet-unannounced new album, is a Shakespearean tragedy of sorts. Directed by Matt Lambert, it tells a non-linear Romeo and Juliet-like tale, replacing "fair Verona" with scenic rural Germany. The video was produced by Iconoclast in collaboration with The FADER and !K7, and it's debuting above.
The new clip, which was filmed gorgeously by Control cinematographer Martin Ruhe, is a heartbreaking story about outsiders—in this case, queer ones. Similar to stories about forbidden romance, it ends with unspeakable violence. It's all set against Mikky's string-heavy new track, which was produced by and features Woodkid.
According to Mykki Blanco and Matt Lambert, the powerful "High School Never Ends" video is also about the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. “It never once overtly comments on orientation or race, but only ideas of 'us' and 'them,'" said Lambert. “I had once thought Europe was my safe haven from American white supremacy, and how wrong I became," Mykki Blanco added.

The Man on not one, not two, but three tracks — "Quiet Trip," "Nature of The Beast," and "Fuel." Today, we're having the former collaborators link up once again (albeit remotely, for obvious reasons) and play a good ole' fashioned round of "Would You Rather?" Topics up for debate include which reality TV program they'd rather duke it out on, touring with Pantera or Wu-Tang Clan, or having Christmas dinner at Kanye West's house versus Donald Trump's house.
"Life is pretty fucking boring without it," SG Lewis says looking back on a year without any access to clubs. "Without moments to look back at and the experiences that make life worth living it is all pretty dull. It's a shame that we have a government that just doesn't care." Wandering around an empty Phonox in west London, he lays out his fears for the future of night life across the world, as a generation of young people miss out on the formative experiences of the dancefloor amid a global pandemic. Just how many establishments across the U.K. can make it through without major financial support?
In times: Past & Present, The FADER’s insightful new documentary, we explore the dance music scene's most testing period with the help of SG Lewis. He talks about his life spent manning the decks at clubs across the country, from his student days in Liverpool as a resident at the formative Chibuku night to his status as a major producer and songwriter in his own right. He also discusses how experience of the past year has shaped his new record, originally called Good Times, now simply titled times as a reflection of the challenges faced this past year.

If you haven't done that yet, The FADER's latest episode in our Would You Rather series is a great incentive: Rucci, Azchike, and Haiti Babii, three young, promising rappers, shoot the breeze over a video call. Their conversation covers choosing Erykah Badu or Missy Elliott to redesign their cribs, starring in a remake of 'Training Day' over a sequel to 'Bad Boys,' and contains at least one viable Netflix pitch. With lots of laughs and a contagious chemistry, the clip will put a smile on your face and possibly send you to YouTube to watch Michael Jordan highlight reels.

In her FADER Interview with Christine Ochefu, Flo reflects on her past and present, and what it's meant to step into the position of a role model: "I've always been confident... with other darker girls looking up to me, that just makes me more confident. It's really just knowing yourself and not going by society's standards, because if you think like society, you'll be like everybody else, and I don't think I'm like everybody else."
Elsewhere in the interview, she offers advice for up-and-coming artists when dealing with major label contracts, and delineates a plan for continued female rap domination "you look at the guys in the game, and it's quick... they can collab with this one, that one. With females, if we take our platforms and combine them, we'll upbring everything we have."

Is there a worse environment for tripping on shrooms than in a car just before a street sweeper rolls through? Did Mozart ever really fuck with albums? Your answers await you in the video above.

Like a doll brought to life, watching one of the Rap Game winner’s videos can be like watching someone grown in a lab to reach ‘iconic’ status as fast as possible. Still, this distinctiveness means that she’s visible from a mile away — as was the case when she was wrongfully arrested for theft and incarcerated. In her Remember That Time, the rising musician — who recently netted her first Billboard Hot 100 hit — recounts the strange saga of her arrest and release. It’s a harrowing tale for sure, but the way Big Latto tells it, you may not realize at first.

Plus, they mention the one riddim they wish they had thought of themselves, and offer tips for resourcefully recording in a quiet library (go the Ying Yang Twins route).

That's exactly what happened when Memphis rapper #JuceeFroot, Atlanta renaissance woman #YungBabyTate, and Philly crooner #PinkSweats joined us via video call for our newest installment of Would You Rather. On this episode, the three artists — all of whom are featured on this season of Insecure's soundtrack — have quite a few hilarious takes. If it was up to him, Pink Sweats would have a building dedicated to him in Philly with (of course) pink accents. And Jucee Froot would not date someone who still uses an Android phone.

"There's a lot of talk about why the album got pushed back, and all these kind of things," Healy told us. "It's kind of irrelevant. The premise of my idea was always really to just continuously have a real time expression."
Conditional is the operative word here. The album sways with a continuous ebb and flow, pushing the band to the most extreme ends of a spectrum they've been operating on for the better part of the last decade: it's simultaneously their most aggressive and dreamy work to date, tied together with iCloud ambience. To Healy, seemingly oppositional forces are the ones most worth pursuing: "I'm always trying to figure out who I am, a search for the definitive self. Why am I this walking set of contradictions when I believe that I'm actually this? Why am I not essentially me?"
Speaking from lockdown in his home studio outside of London, Healy opened up on what making Notes On A Conditional Form revealed about himself, how he currently feels about America, and what needs to be saved during this time of reckoning, within the music industry and beyond.
