For disabled peoples liberation, we must end capitalist domination of care Prolekult 2025-03-19 | The Labour government has announced a further £5bn in cuts to disability benefits, including Personal Independence Payments which are intended to provide for need whether or not a claimant is in work. This is a brutal, vile attack on disabled people in Britain, which can only result in social murder. Understanding how we ended up in this situation, and how to fight it, requires an understanding of the disabled peoples' movement (DPM) in Britain. One of the largest social movements of the 20th Century, the British DPM organised to provide care on disabled peoples' terms and to liberate people from a life of segregation in care homes. As the result of its turn to a civil rights framework, with a demand to choose provision on the market, the current model of care and disability benefits was first formed. In contrast, the revolutionary wing of the movement organised for state provision, organised by disabled people in co-ordination with the state.
