What Depression Feels Like Holy Cow Creates 2024-08-27 | the voices inside my head get exhausting...day after day, year after year-- I would describe this as an overview of what depression-adjacent feelings are like; the kind of thoughts and internal monologue that often cohabitate with depression or lead to depression. If I were to make a video about depression specifically, I would probably focus more on the emptiness, lack of feeling, and lack of motivation more. I went back and forth on whether to post this or not. It's vulnerable. It's embarrassing. But ultimately I hope it will resonate with someone else struggling with similar things in a way that is encouraging or helps them to not feel alone.A lot of these thoughts, when I am doing better, feel foreign to me and I want to disown them; to not post this video because "I don't really feel that way" or feeling self-conscious about something like this being in some way staged for the video. Making the Invisible Visible with Art Holy Cow Creates 2024-07-02 | You can't always see chronic suffering.This video is for everyone struggling with chronic illness, chronic pain, or chronic suffering of any kind -- those with arthritis, depression, GERD, IBS, migraines, disability, FODMAP intolerances, Lyme's disease and the many, many more things that can lead someone to struggle with their health daily...... and struggling with feeling like their illness or pain defines them, rather than their other qualities as a person, or that their suffering has been with them for so long it's become invisible. --I remember one doctor's visit with a specialist. Yet another test had found no observable cause for my problems. Like many doctors, she felt that if a test showed nothing, that meant I was OK, even if I was still suffering. Frustrated, I asked what she thought would have caused my body to suddenly develop so many new symptoms, and she dismissively said that sort of thing just happens at my age. I’m not even *thirty* yet and you’re telling me your best guess as to why I spend hours sitting on the toilet doubled over waiting for the paint to pass, why I can’t eat eighty percent of the food I used to, why I’m suddenly allergic to so many things I wasn’t before, is because *I’m getting old?*Another time, I wrote up a list of more than a dozen different health issues that had significantly impacted my quality of life over the past twelve months. The symptoms, how often they came and went, how severe they were and how long they lasted. I brought it to an appointment with my primary care doctorHe didn’t take it — he wouldn’t even look at it.“I don’t have time for all that. So let’s just pick one thing to work on.” He said. *Just one thing?* How am I supposed to pick a single thing out of the malady of different symptoms that work in concert to erode my quality of life? How am I supposed to focus on just one — *which one?* The one that has caused me the most suffering over the past year? The one that’s been the worst this week? The one that’s worst *today*? The one that’s easiest to explain? The one that’s easiest to treat? But as I hesitate, I see him check his watch and look at the door, so I choose one and immediately regret it. He rapid fires subjective questions about the severity and location of pain that I don’t have the vocabulary to answer and don’t have time to think about. I can tell that by my rushed answers he’s already ruled it out being a serious problem. He issues me a prescription or maybe an over-the-counter medication and tells me to get back to him in six months if I’m not better. This is the third time we’ve done this, so it’s been it’s been three “in six-months” already. I’ve already lost a year and a half of my life to this illness, and the list of my problems is growing not shrinking. The only thing shrinking is my faith in the medical system. --All glory to God!

The Flood Story — Noahs Ark Diorama Holy Cow Creates 2024-02-24 | Best watched with sound, this Noah's Ark biblical diorama was created for a monthly art challenge @Boylei hosted for his patrons for Jan-Feb.This video doesn't just depict the creation of the diorama but also tells the story of the flood in snippets of the bible read during the video.For the diorama, I used polymer clay, moss and other natural materials, resin, polyester stuffing, an Anycubic Mono M5, an airbrush, paint, glue, and Woodland Scenics water effects.During the final shots, I used a flashing LED light to mimic lightning and sprayed water out of a spray bottle to mimic rain. For many scenes, I used a fog/haze machine for atmosphere.The video was uploaded in 8k and 4k for ultra HD TV viewing. It was shot on a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2, mostly on a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, lit with a Genaray Torpedo LED Daylight Focusing Flood Light, a standard RGB LED block light, and another spotlight. I made three-dimensional framed resin paintings Holy Cow Creates 2024-02-03 | In this video, I make three different framed bible verses using resin and preserved natural materials like flowers, ferns, acorns, blueberries, olives, etc. The verses are Revelations 21:4, Romans 15:13, and Romans 12:2. The natural materials are mostly preserved using silica sand, though some are preserved by pressing in a book. I use a combination of UV resin and deep-pour resin. The frames are made out of wood and cardboard and glued together with wood glue. For one of them, I also airbrushed all of the natural materials (acorns, pine branches, pinecones, etc) blue. These were mainly created as Christmas gifts, but also as an exploration of what handcrafted arts I might be able to sell at a local artisan gift shop. ... while talking about Authenticity on YouTube Holy Cow Creates 2023-10-30 | A brief video about how it feels impossible to be authentic on YouTube, at least if you want to grow your channel and get a lot of views, while I use a dremel and a battery pack to carve / sculpt a face into a rock in the middle of the woods. (Related to my previous video about creativity I recorded while making my mountain diorama/painting.) A lot of people criticize YouTubers for being inauthentic or wish there would be a new wave of YouTubers who are more authentic, but that's not going to happen. You can't be authentic on youtube.When making videos for YouTube, one may need to hide or exaggerate certain aspects of their personality in order to appeal to viewers' interests. Authenticity on YouTube may be challenging, especially if one is unsure about their own identity and struggles to define it on camera. Being authentic on YouTube is more attainable for established YouTubers, as smaller creators may find it difficult to gain attention for their authenticity.The reason I'm carving a face on a rock in the woods while I talk about this is that I'm trying to reduce screen time and be outdoors more often while doing things I love, so I decided to create art outside, in nature, rather than inside or in front of my computer screen.
