The Village Destroyed By Recycling Factory Waste CNA Insider 2023-01-12 | Nong Phawa village in Rayong Province, Thailand, has been dealing with the effects of untreated waste from a recycling factory owned by Win Process since 2012. Their trees have stopped bearing fruits, there aren’t any freshwater shrimp or shellfish left, and villagers’ health has suffered.Despite the villagers’ repeated negotiations with management, the factory has denied responsibility. In 2021, Nong Phawa villagers sued Win Process for US$1.3 million. In 2020, Thailand imported 550,000 tonnes of plastic waste from developed countries which are channelled to its recycling industry - but not all factories are well regulated. The Thai government intends to ban all plastic waste imports by 2025.
