The Man With The Flower in His Mouth AlanHilter 2007-07-16 | Originally this was made for the BBC by John Logie Baird to demostrate his (rather crap) TV system. It was broadcast live from 133 Long Acre, London, on the 14th July 1930. Obviously it was not recorded. In 1967 it was remade by Bill Elliot, a technician working at Granada TV (he had too much time on his hands). It used the same 1930's equipment and techniques and the 30 line output was recorded on audio tape recorder. (God Im boring myself) The original producer Lance Sieveking rerturned to produce the show, and brought with him the original artwork and the original 78rpm LP for music. The actors were students from the ILEA (Inner London Education Authority). Well wasn't the f*cking exciting and informative?

It's on BBC1 Scotland, Tuesday at 8pm, Friday at 8.30pm with an omnibus on Sundays. (You can find BBC1 Scotland on Sky Ch.971 and on Virgin media somewhere.)
Triangle AlanHilter 2007-07-16 | Opening titles of what may be the most derided soap ever made. Set on board a ferry sailing between Fleixstowe, Gothenburg and Amsterdam the show paved the way for "Brookside" and other such dramas with its unique use of OB video cameras and editing (which was done on board the ship). Pity poor Kate O'Mara though. That's her, sunbathing topless, in the gloom and grey of the North Sea!
