2024 Honda RC213V MotoGP testing at Mugello Circuit: Launch, Accelerations & Raw 1,000cc V4 Sound! 19Bozzy92 2024-05-20 | Here's a video fully focused on the four Honda RC213V prototypes I recorded last week during a test session among some of the 2024 MotoGP teams at Mugello Circuit, in Italy. The RC213V was introduced in 2012 as a successor to the RC212V model. Rules for 2012 allowed motorcycles up to 1,000 cc in capacity, with a limit of 4 cylinders and a maximum 81mm cylinder bore. It's name has the following meaning:- RC= Honda's traditional racing prefix for 4-stroke bikes- 213= third works bike of the 21st century- V= V engineCompared to the RC212V, the most significant new design features of the RC213V were its 1000cc displacement and 90° cylinder angle (RC212V's engine was a 75.5° V4). Of course the bike has been developed and modified over the last decade to adapt to the obvious changes in the rules, but as you well know they are currently going through a rather dark period of their motorcycling racing history.At the moment Honda, together with Yamaha, is placed in the lowest rank of the new MotoGP concessions system, an attempt to help the manufacturers most in need from a performance point of view, stipulated by a ranking depending on the percentage of the possible maximum points each brand has accrued in a determined time frame.One very beneficial aspect of being in the lowest rank is the possibility to carry out test days with the official riders, limited only by the number of tyres available (which are higher in number than the highest ranked constructors). Other advantages for these teams are the development of the engine, which, unlike the constructors ranked higher, is not frozen, and the possibility to test on an unlimited number of circuits where a World Championship race will be held.Riders taking part were Repsol Honda’s Joan Mir and Luca Marini and LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami. (HQ Audio) 19Bozzy92 2024-05-16 | After many years waiting to record some raw MotoGP testing footage on a proper race track, yesterday I finally managed to attend a test session among some of the 2024 teams at Mugello Circuit, in Italy. The test was predominantly organized by Honda and Yamaha, but there was also Aprilia taking advantage of the opportunity for some further developments with their test rider, Lorenzo Savadori.The Japanese manufacturers are permitted additional test days as part of the 2024 MotoGP concessions rules, an attempt to help the manufacturers most in need from a performance point of view, stipulated by a ranking depending on the percentage of the possible maximum points each brand has accrued in a determined time frame. 1977 Aston Martin DBS V8 RHAM/1 Race Car in action on track: Accelerations & V8 Roar! 19Bozzy92 2024-05-10 | During 1974, Staffordshire Aston Martin dealer, Robin Hamilton, a former Rolls-Royce mechanic, began competing a 1970 Aston DBS V8 (DBSV8/10038/RC) in AMOC (Aston Martin Owners Club) racing events. During three years of rapid development, with the car modified almost beyond recognition, the chassis number was changed to RHAM/1 (Robin Hamilton Aston Martin #1) with the intention of competing in the 1977 Le Mans 24 hour race. Whilst this wasn't a works car, support was provided by the Aston Martin factory, and indeed lessons learned from the wind tunnel test sessions were applied in the form of front air dam and rear spoiler.RHAM/1 made its debut at the Silverstone Six Hours, a pre event to the Le Mans race, on 15 May 1977. By this time Hamilton had gained some financial input from several AMOC members, whose names appeared on the rear wing for the race. At this stage, the 5.3-liter, naturally-aspirated V8 engine would now produce 520 bhp at 6,750 rpm with Weber carburettors. The car was also a Group 5 car rather than a Group 4, which would mean it would have to race against the turbocharged Porsches. Hamilton and Preece did finish, but they failed to reach the final standings due to insufficient laps completed. After the race, Hamilton had to modify the cooling of the rear brakes, otherwise the car would never last the 24-hour period.RHAM/1 competed in its first 24 Hour event when it raced at the 1977 Le Mans 24 hour race. With drivers David Preece, Mike Salmon and Robin Hamilton himself. A request was made to move to the GTP category from the competitive Group 5, where opposition was deemed less strong. This request was granted by the organisers. Despite a complicated qualification, the race went pretty well so much so that they finished 17th overall and 3rd in the GTP class.For the following years RHAM/1 was modified even more, with the V8 fitted with twin Garrett turbos, a total different body style and aero, plus of course some weight reduction. 2000 Bentley EXP Speed 8 Development Prototype w/ Cosworth DFR V8: Warm Up, Accelerations & Sound! 19Bozzy92 2024-04-21 | Yes, you read it correctly: this Bentley doesn't have its typical Audi turbocharged V8 but a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter Cosworth DFR. And this has nothing to do with possible current management costs but with the history of this particular chassis. In fact what you see is the very first chassis (RTN001/01) ever built for Bentley's planned three-year campaign in the closed-cockpit LMGTP class.When Bentley was purchased by Volkswagen in 1998 new funds became available and the brand began to have a great interest in motorsport again, especially with the desire to obtain their sixth 24 Hours of Le Mans win after the early five successes back in 1920s. The project wasn't so difficult to start as the Volkswagen Group was already involved in endurace racing with Audi and their R8. Furthermore, in order not to annoy each other, the regulations of those years allowed two different top classes which could both fight for the overall victory: LMP900 for open-cockpit prototypes and LMGTP for closed-cockpit ones.Bentley relied on Racing Technology Norfolk (RTN) for the whole design, development and manufacturing of the new car, which was called EXP Speed 8, a way to remark its experimental status and the use of a eight cylinder engine, as per traditional Bentley nomenclature. The engine would have been the only point in common between the two sister cars, R8 and Speed 8, but when the first 'EXP' was build and ready, its engine was not. To have waited until Audi provided the required motors would have meant delaying the programme another year. So, and in complete secrecy, the Bentley went through almost its entire development and validation programme powered by a DFR. And it actually did the team a massive favour. Not only did it match the 600bhp expected from the Audi engine, like all DFVs it was not exactly the smoothest running engine. In fact it vibrated so much the car had to be phenomenally well built not to be shaken to pieces by it. The result was a car that, once teething troubles were overcome, would run with enviable reliability throughout its career.RTN001/01 was never raced but it was used a lot in development tests between 2000 and 2001, when the actual racing career of the Speed 8 started. Almost 24 years after it last turned a wheel on a race track, it has been rebuilt and recreated in an exact 'period correct' specification by the guys of Progressive Motorsport. You know that in recent years I've uploaded some videos related to the 2-wheels world. I'm a big fan of motorbikes too but focusing mainly on automotive events I've always find myself too busy to also follow 2-wheels races during the year. But in 2024, barring unforeseen circumstances, I intend to follow some motorcycle events and vary a bit between track, motocross, classics and hillclimbs.So last weekend I went to Pietramurata MX track in Italy for the fourth round of the 2024 Motocross World Championship, the MXGP of Trentino. The track is located 10 km North of Lake Garda and it's surrounded by some beautiful mountains, typical of that area.I was there only for Saturday's free practice sessions and qualifying but it was pretty enough to get a taste of this interesting and strenuous discipline. I'll explain this better later.Pescarolo Sport was a French motorsport team founded in February 2000 by French racing driver Henri Pescarolo and his friend François Granet. From 1994 to 1998, Henri Pescarolo had been driving for the Courage Compétition squad with some success, but in 1999 he decided to run his own team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as customer team of the factory's Courage entries. The team was initially known as the Pescarolo Promotion Racing Team and it took a well-deserved ninth-place finish. Following this success, Pescarolo decided that he would retire from racing as a driver, but remain in sports car racing as a team owner founding the following year Pescarolo Sport.Pescarolo remained close to Courage, using their C52 chassis, as well as reaching an agreement with Peugeot to supply new turbocharged engines. In their first run at Le Mans, the team managed an impressive fourth-place finish. With this success, Pescarolo Sport expanded vastly for the 2001 season, purchasing two new Courage C60 chassis (chassis number 03 and 04) to be used in various races of the American Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series, FIA Sportscar Championship, as well as the usual entry at Le Mans.The Courage C60 was built by Courage Compétition in 2000 for the LMP900 class, powered by a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated Judd GV4 V10 engine linked to a X-Trac 6-speed manual-sequential gearbox. Pescarolo's C60 began using a 3.2-litre twin-turbocharged Sodemo-Peugeot A32 V6 engined version of the car, a version that would prove to be the most successful. In 2004 Pescarolo further developed their C60s, opting for a 5.0-litre Judd GV5 V10 engine instead of the Peugeot unit. Their cars were renamed as just 'Pescarolo C60', removing the 'Courage' name. For 2005 Courage and Pescarolo both released redeveloped versions of the C60 LMP900 for the new LMP1 'Hybrid' regulations, where the term 'Hybrid' only refers to the fact that the chassis of these cars could and was still based on the older LMP900 regulations, but the aerodynamics package was fully up to date with the upcoming LMP1 regulations. In fact in anticipation of the completely new class for the 2007 season, the ACO offered the teams a three year transition period during which old and upgraded LMP900 cars could still be fielded. These 'hybrid' cars were a relatively cheap and easy option to still used the old LMP900 cars without suffering the performance penalties.Both versions (Pescarolo and Courage) were designated as C60 Hybrids and used Judd engines. The Pescarolo version retained its Judd GV5 engine, with a claimed power output of 630 hp, whilst the Courage version used the smaller 600 hp Judd GV4 engine, and featured a noticeably different rear wing. In 2005 Pescarolo Sport won two rounds of the Le Mans Endurance Series season. These wins helped the team to earn their first championship. Nissan R90CK Group C car racing at Mugello: VRH35Z V8 Engine Sound w/ Unusual Rear Exhaust! 19Bozzy92 2024-04-12 | In 1989 Nissan competed with the R89Cs, developed in conjunction with Lola, in both the World Sportscar Championship and the All Japan Sports Prototype Championships. For the 1990 season they decided to actually develop two different cars. The chassis of the R90C was still built by Lola but then the car for the WSC would have been designed by Nissan Motorsports Europe, starting from the R89C and improving it, while the JSPC's R90 would have been built by Nismo, directly in Japan. The car were named respectively R90CK and R90CP, with this second one having a low downforce design compared to the CK. The one in this video is a R90CK, chassis R90-C-005, that I saw during the recent Mugello Classic historic weekend by @peterautoracing, driven by my friend Olivier and managed by Scott Sport. Chassis 05 didn't have a successful career, with lots of retirements mainly caused by fuel leaks, both at Le Mans in 1990 and at Daytona in 1992, with a further retirement in the same race the year before. Following the unfortunate results, it was retired to the Nissan Heritage Collection. More than thirty years later, Ascott Collection managed to get the R90CK out of the Nissan collection, had it restored and made it racing ontrack again.The R90CK is powered by a 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged Nissan VRH35Z V8 engine able to produce over 800 hp and 780 Nm of torque with a curb weight of just 900 kg. Chassis R90-C-005 has a pretty interesting feature: its exhaust system. Compared to the typical side exits, with the wastegate pipe separated from the actual exhaust, the VRH35Z on this car is fitted with a curved pipe (in which both the exhaust and the wastegate pipes merge) which lets all the gases escape directly 'inside' the rear diffuser. Why? 2010 Corvette C6.R ZR1 GT2 Roaring Again! 5.5L V8 Warm Up, Accelerations & OnBoard! 19Bozzy92 2024-04-10 | During last year's Mugello Classic by @peterautoracing I was struck by the presence of this Chevrolet Corvette C6.R ZR1 race car fielded in the Endurance Racing Legends championship and in no time I tried to do my best to produce a dedicated video of this iconic machine. Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the clips brought home and I preferred to put them aside to be used in the future. Luckily this year things went better.The car is chassis C6RGT-001 and its the first Corvette built for the, at that time, new GT2 category which would have been introduced starting from 2010. The new ruleset required a major use of production-based components compared to the GT1-class in which Corvette Racing was already racing the C6.R. Following this 'connection' between the track and road production, the new GT2 car took body styling cues from the then new Corvette ZR1 street car.The car was introduced and developed in the final five rounds of the 2009 American Le Mans Series, fitted with a newly designed 6.0L, 470 hp V8, which was based on the 7.0L LS7.R from the GT1 car (which produced 590 bhp). As part of the GT regulations for 2010, the engine would be downsized to 5.5-liter to comply with the new engine displacement limits. Chassis 001 is the same car of the famous final lap at Laguna Seca in 2009, ended with the accident between Jan Magnussen and Joerg Bergmeister's Porsche just on the finish line. It was repaired ahead of the 2010 season and fielded in the whole 2010 American Le Mans Series and the 24h of Le Mans. In 2011 it was sold to Larbre Competition and fielded in the Le Mans Series such as in many other endurance races of 2012. As for the previous versions, the FL5 TCR has been built and developed by the Italian company JAS Motorsport, improving on various aspects the already excellent 'FK'. The engine is still the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder derived from the production version and it's able to produce around 340 hp and 420 Nm torque (based on the BoP adjustments). The KC23 can also count on unique aerodynamics thanks to the presence of motorized side air intakes and body panels, which open and close depending on engine temperature and driving settings. The rear wing is removable. I recorded one of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Sweden team in action at Misano Circuit during a recent test day by Kateyama, ahead of the 2024 GT4 European Series.Obviously the GR Supra GT4 is based on the road-going GR Supra A90/Mk5 and it was unveiled in 2020. It was really nice to witness the procedures behind a LMDh prototype up close, partecipating in the form of two Porsche 963s, one of Porsche Penske Motorsport and the other of Hertz Team JOTA. TF Sport brought its two new Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 GT3.Rs. I can't help but say it's very satisfying to still have some proper sounding naturally-aspirated machines in the GT3 class.Team WRT was also at these tests with both their two 'WEC LMGT3' class BMW M4s, no. 31 and no. 46, along with their full drivers line-up meaning former MotoGP rider and legend Valentino Rossi was there too. Porsche Penske & Team JOTA prepare for the 2024 WEC 6 Hours at Imola w/ their Porsche 963 LMDh! 19Bozzy92 2024-03-13 | First of all I have to thank the company Kateyama, organizer of numerous test sessions, for allowing photographers and videomakers to witness such a particular test up close, in which some teams from the World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and GT World Challenge participated. Of course I'll share one of my usual general video from these last two-days with you very soon.Instead this first upload is fully focused on the two Porsche 963s of Porsche Penske Motorsport and Hertz Team JOTA which took advantage of the opportunity to prepare for the ever-closer 6 Hours of Imola, the Italian round of the 2024 FIA WEC in April. I know it was very sci-fi but I hoped until the last minute that the Penske was equipped with the new cross-plane 'Evo' engine, which will be used on all 963s, both private and factory ones, after this year's Le Mans 24 Hours. Still the flat-plane V8 in this video, but it was still great to record the cars track-side!The 963 was revealed at the 2022 Festival of Speed and it has been developed under the "Le Mans Daytona h" regulations which allows it to be fielded alongside Le Mans Hypercar entries in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC or in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Compared to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) rule set, in which there's much more freedom in designing the car, LMDh teams are forced to rely on one of the 4 chassis manufacturers chosen by ACO and IMSA (Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and Oreca) in order to have a base from which to build their own vehicle. And Porsche opted for the Canadian firm Multimatic for their 963.The Porsche 963 is powered by a 4.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which traces its roots to the 918 Spyder. 740HP MCXtrema unleashed on track: Maseratis track-only toy testing at Misano Circuit! 19Bozzy92 2024-03-04 | During the recent test days organized by Kateyama at Misano Circuit, Maserati brought one of their new MCXtrema for a development session. The MCXtrema is an exclusive track-only toy which will be built in just 62 units, following the trend of many other supercars and hypercars manufacturers which provide an extreme track variant of their cars to be driven during scheduled track days and/or events.Of course it's based on the Maserati MC20, more precisely from the MC20 GT2 as the Xtrema adopts many components of this racing version, but thanks to the intense use of carbon fiber and the removal of many unnecessary components the MCXtrema is over 250 kg lighter than the MC20, stopping the scale at 1,250 kg.The Nettuno engine (a 3.0-liter twin-turbo, 90° V6) has been fitted with two new turbochargers, increasing the power output to 740hp, sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential manual transmission paired with a mechanical limited slip differential.#Maserati #MCXtrema #MaseratiMCXtrema------------------------------------------------------------------------I have to thank my friend and youtuber @Italiansupercarvideo for the great collaboration done during some of these events. 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am in action at Festival of Speed w/ LOUD V8 Sounds! 19Bozzy92 2024-02-17 | Here's a video of the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 race car that was entered in the 2023 Shootout of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the hands of Fred Shepherd.This particular car should be the one entered in the British Saloon Car Championship by Fleetwood Motor Engineers in early 1970s. The car was successfully campaigned by Richard Lloyd and secured 4 wins. In 1974, the car was entered into the Avon Tour of Britain where Lloyd once again drove, sponsored by Simoniz car polish and towards the end of the Mustang’s tour, Castrol Motor Oil and Charles Austen Pumps Ltd. This Boss 302 returned to compete in the Gerry Marshall Trophy during the 2019 Goodwood Members Meeting, driven by Romain Dumas and Bill Shepherd. Group Rally1 cars have two radical new features for the World Rally Championship: the first is the introduction of a hybrid electric power system, linked to the existing 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in use on the previous WRC Plus cars. 2005 Ford GT & MSW GT-40 Replica Accelerating on the Airstrip: 5.4 Modular V8 vs Roush 427 IR Sound! 19Bozzy92 2024-02-06 | Here's a brief video about a splendid black 2005 Ford GT and an interesting modern reinterpretation of the GT40 done by the guys of MSW Aviation doing some accelerations on the Engadin Airport runway in Switzerland during the 2023 Kilomètre Lancé.The Ford GT is powered by its stock 5.4-liter Modular V8 engine linked to an Eaton 2300 Lysholm supercharger. It's able to produce around 550 hp at 6,500 rpm. It has a curb weight of 1,581kg.The MSW GT-40 is an interesting project built around a lightweight carbon monocoque. It should be powered by a modified Roush 427 IR crate V8 engine that should be able to produce around 600 hp. The car weighs around 900kg.The Kilomètre Lancé is a revival event of the original competition held in 1929 and 1930 as the starting event of the International St. Moritz Automobile Week. This week consisted of a rally, the kilometer race, a skill race, a concours d'elegance and the Bernina hillclimb race. For the second one, the dead-straight section of road between Samedan and Punt Muragl was the first asphalted road in Engadin and the venue for this spectacular race, in which the only thing that mattered was the maximum speed that could be achieved. Of course nowdays these kind of sprint competitions are no longer held on public roads. The kilometer race, called by the organizers "Kilomètre Lancé", has been exhumed since 2021 as part of the modern International St. Moritz Automobile Week and it's held on the runway of Engadin Airport, in Switzerland, specially closed for this purpose. Ferrari was there with one of their 499P, a car that already showed its true potential last season, which will become three in 2024 with the addition of No. 83 driven by Robert Kubica, Robert Shwartzman and Ye Yifei. The crews of the other two cars will remain unchanged as for 2023: No. 50 will be driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen while on the No. 51 there will be Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi.The Ferrari 499P has been designed under the LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) rules, which consist in prototypes designed from the ground-up with optional hybrid power. WRC 2024: Rallye Monte-Carlo - Best of Rally2/WRC2 Class: NEW GR Yaris vs C3 vs Fabia RS vs i20 N! 19Bozzy92 2024-01-31 | Of course WRC rounds aren't only about Rally1 machines but there are also other classes with very fierce drivers. This is definitely the case with WRC2, a support championship reserved to cars homologated under Group Rally2 (or previous R5) rules. So here's a compilation from the first round of the championship (with some 'extra' Rally2/R5 cars) featuring some flatout and max attack scenes during the 2024 Rallye Monte-Carlo! The battle for the victory was really close until the very last special stage. It was claimed by Yohan Rossel in the No. 20 Citroën C3 by 4.0sec over Pepe López and his No. 25 Škoda Fabia RS. Nikolay Gryazin completed the podium in the No. 21 Citroën C3, 15.4 seconds behind his teammate. The Monte-Carlo round was also the debut race of the new Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. A total of 4 cars were fielded in the hands of private teams. WRC 2024: Rallye Monte-Carlo - Best of Rally1 Cars: Top Speed Fly Bys, Fast Sections & Max Attack! 19Bozzy92 2024-01-28 | With the previous WRC Plus cars I've learned that WRC rounds were to be watched and recorded on fast and high speed sections, where those aerodynamic monsters gave their best. Now with the new, more powerful Rally1 I wanted to adopt the same strategy and it wasn't a bad choice at all, even though I noticed firsthand how much more difficult it is to drive these cars on the limit in comparison, due to the different weights involved, less aero and the lack of the active central differential. Group Rally1 cars have two radical new features for the World Rally Championship: the first is the introduction of a hybrid electric power system, linked to the existing 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in use on the previous WRC Plus cars. The second is related to their origin. In fact Rally1 machines have no series production car requirement. As you can hear it still features a fully unmuffled exhaust system.- Chassis 12R (Gulf Racing livery), a 1996 spec car that scored four victories in the 1996 BPR championship. The guys of Squadra Corse also made some changes to the braking system, which now adopts larger 390 mm front discs and modified calipers. Porsche 992 GT3 R pure sound testing at Monza: Start Up, Pit Exit Accelerations, Downshifts! 19Bozzy92 2024-01-06 | 2023 has been a great year for the GT3-class as some manufacturers have updated their weapons ahead of the beginning of the racing season but also in view of 2024 for the switch between GTE and GT3 cars in the major endurance championships. The 2023 911 GT3 R is Porsche's evolution to their 991.2 GT3 R and of course it's based on the 992 generation. From my point of view and from what I've seen since the first spy images were released, this GT3 R seems to have taken many aero characteristics of the RSR-19 GTE. As for the RSR, the naturally-aspirated flat-6 engine had an increase in displacement from 4.0 to 4.2-litre.
