Very early in development we wanted to have these "bridge" sections for when you have to walk a while with nothing happening, to keep things visually interesting. I think we dropped this at the same time that we dropped the "right thumbstick 3D lookaround" feature, because it's way too revealing of how the world is built. But it became an easter egg instead, much later, involving some glasses...

This is video footage directly recorded from a build I found on an old hard drive, dating from December 16th 2009. We had this build for playtesting internally, for friends coming at the studio. It wasn't marketing material, so the quality/stability varies...
Phil gave me permission to post it (THANKS PHIL!), so here you go :)
Noteworthy oddities : - Sepia filter on the splash screen - RGB FEZ logo - LONG hitches when a song loads - Looping village (with horrible performance when rotating) - 4-bit door inside village - Vases! - Health! - No cube bits anywhere! (we probably didn't know what to do with them yet) - Moonwalking villager...? - Geezer's couch - Tutorial caves, including bombs - RGB gate - Rotation tutorial and puzzle as soon as you get the power - Non-NES screen glitches - Carrying objects through doors - Dig Dug-looking cave - Early hub level - Industrial actors pretty much in final state - "Mushrooms get you high" would not fly by the ESRBFEZ QA footage from a wobbly video tapeRenaud Bédard2015-12-11 | This is one of my FEZ archive jewels from 2011...
Back when we were developing FEZ for Xbox 360 with Microsoft Game Studios, they helped a lot with QA. One of their test facilities had footage recorded what looks like a VCR, or some kind of tape media.
In the end it was just captured footage from a build of the game, attached to a bug report to illustrate what was wrong. But the music slowing down (especially with this beautiful Disasterpeace track!), sound crackling, the chroma bleed artifacts, the scanlines shaking and breaking up made us feel like the game was suddenly for the SNES and captured on 1990s home video equipment.Sonar+D 2015 littleBits Live Improvisational PerformanceRenaud Bédard2015-07-15 | Here's a slightly cut down video of my littleBits live performance in Barcelona for Sonar+D 2015.
I removed the sections where I had technical issues (I had to wake up my macbook from sleep every once in a while because it kept falling to sleep mode, which killed USB power, and the Korg SQ-1 was USB powered) and set-up/tear-down time... and where it just sounded like I was going nowhere :D The last segment/song starts late and ends short, but it was relatively short anyway.
It may look like I'm using a computer for sound generation, but it's strictly for USB power since my wall plug adapters didn't work in Europe. All sound is done through littleBits, and a Korg SQ-1 sequencer is used for tempo control and as an up to 16-step sequencer with gate/pitch/portamento control. I use a custom script (github.com/renaudbedard/littlebits-arduino/blob/master/Sketches/MultiSync/MultiSync.ino) on my Arduino bit to do time division or multiplication on the SQ-1's Sync Out port.
Many many thanks to Jordi Borras from littleBits for capturing all this footage on his iPhone! I forgot to record audio directly from my computer so this is the best source I have.
Enjoy!

We used to have "motor blocks" in FEZ. They transported you in a specific direction depending on the face that was visible. They could've been used for navigational puzzle in mid-air, but in reality there were easy to break, and hard to design for. We had no place for them in the final game except for boring elevators, so we dropped them.

We used to have "heavy groups" in FEZ. If you destroyed a block that supported a bunch of other blocks, the blocks above could fall down. This worked 100% and was pretty cool in action, but we couldn't find a use for them in the game, with all the levels placed and locked, so the feature was dropped.
This video contains older sound effects and animations too, and was recorded in June 2009.Waiting For Horus - Week 7 - Map ChangeRenaud Bédard2012-09-10 | github.com/aliceffekt/Horus/wiki Music : Mangadrive

New features shown here : - Homing missiles! No more hold-to-shoot right click cannon, if you just keep the enemy in your crosshairs, the shotgun pellets will search their target. This doubles as a see-through-walls radar, the enemies show up as triangles. - Reload indicator : the circle around the crosshair fills up as you reload. - Environment & color tweaks, tweaked controls, bullet trails, prettier explosions - Flag colors that indicate the leader and the runner-up - 5 minute rounds, scoring resets each round
The text and UI are super tiny because it doesn't scale right now, and this was captured at 2880x1800 :D Of course the game runs at 60fps and is more enjoyable that way, but the web being what it is, this is capped at 30.Machinedrum @ Piknic Électronik, July 29th 2012Renaud Bédard2012-07-30 | Crazy awesome set. Trouble In Euclidea is a game I made for the 2008 TIGSource Bootleg Demake Competition as an obvious demake of Geometry Wars. My intent was to demake the graphics (by using ASCII art for everything) more than the gameplay.
During the deluge, wizards wage war amongst themselves to be the only Ark. Summon animals to your side by typing their names, and watch them fight your opponent's invocations.
