Larry PennaShouldn't have messed up as much as I did, but I didn't have the song memorized, so it was bound to happen. There's another cover thats way better anyway, I posted this video just to give tabs and show the vocal parts being played on guitar.
I just tabbed out what I played in video (besides the improvisation towards the end), not every guitar part

There's a 7 string economy picking lick that's very challenging to come into from the tapping part before it, and then you gotta skip two strings to repeat the lick. I could use a bit more work on it, but its also hard on this cheap guitar since the 1st string is so loose that it gets pushed off the fretboard a lot of the times. I imagine this is like the 20-30th take I've done in the past 2 weeks and most of them are up to that 3 minute point.
There's a little computer glitch at the beginning, sorry about that. My computer is pretty cooked i think, its been having terrible audio glitching, normally when i record, it doesn't pick up the sound, so when I heard it, i figured it wasn't going to show up. I'm just lucky it didn't freeze my audio at the ending because that was very much a possibility, as it has done that many times.
Aria is one of my favorite albums, so I feel very privileged that Alex shares the tabs of his music. If you want the tabs, send a message to the facebook page.
I did make two changes to the second guitar part in the tab. The first one was in measure 114, I changed the top note E (14) to a D (12). Then in measure 188, i don't remember what it was, but the first 3 notes of that measure i changed to be D(2) Bb(5) F(8). My changes may be wrong, but its what sounded right to me.
Thanks for watching :)Inferi - Those Who From The Heavens Came | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2025-10-02 | Wow, two videos in a year.
My last Inferi cover was pretty dogwater, but it was 5 years ago, before I ever had a guitar teacher. I'm hoping this one will suffice. For now, I'm pretty satisfied, maybe in 5 years I'll think this one is dogwater too. Its definitely harder than Promethean Kings, especially timing wise where there is some dumb time signature and tempo changes.
I actually worked on a transcription of this years ago, but there was too much noise in Malcom's solo that I couldn't figure out what he was playing, so I didn't feel comfortable continuing with that old transcription. This time around, I got the tab book, however I redid some fingerings so it would fit for a 7 string guitar in standard tuning. It makes a lot of stuff weird because recorded it in C standard I believe. Even though the book puts out all the articulations, I took the liberty of making my own choices, but I try to stay true to it mostly. So yeah, no tabs for this, just buy their book.
If you want to see another take of me playing the solo to this here is one I did over a year ago. instagram.com/p/C8o543-ALOU
Sorry for terrible quality camera again, I think next time I'm going to have to promise myself to get a better one.
Thanks for watching :DDDDessiderium - Pollen For The Bees | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2025-04-17 | Dessiderium is probably my most listened to artist in the past year, so even though viewers of the channel may not know this song, I'm happy to have worked on this. I hope that some people can discover Dessiderium through the cover.
I got about halfway through my own transcription of the song, but I saw on Dessiderium's facebook page that Alex was so kind enough to give out his tabs of the album, so if you want to learn a Dessiderium tune, go shoot a message on the facebook page.
Video quality not that great, but I'm not going to try to get a better take with my iPhone camera. I'll get a better camera in the future. For this video I suggest not watching in full screen.
March 2023-2024:
Despite the fact that I started working on this song a year ago, it didn’t actually take a year to learn. I would estimate it took me somewhere between 3-4 weeks to get it to a point where I wanted to record. Originally I had it up to par around mid June, but by that time I had developed an injury in my left hand due to playing too much. I was not able to hold the instrument without extreme fatigue for over a month. By the time my hand had healed to the point where I could play through the whole song again, school was starting up and I had to shift my focus back to composition. From August to now, I would occasionally play through it, just so I wouldn't forget.
After June I had purchased guitar pro 8, which is actually really nice for transcribing, so I redid a lot of the solos and ended up having to learn a different iteration.
The Tab:
I found the tab online, which is what led me to actually do the cover. There were a lot of mistakes so I redid the entire tab. I feel pretty accurate when it comes to the riffs and Nick’s solos. Phil's solo’s, I feel that I transcribed decently, but it was really hard for me to discern pitch and rhythm through the big wall of sound.
Was going to put a tab up on the screen, but the software I used was making it lower the video quality. I’m not quite sure I liked it even if it kept the quality the same, it felt really distracting.
I will probably create my own website soon where I keep all of my transcriptions, so for now, I’ll give this rough draft, and update it later when I finish school.
You might notice that the tab is for 8 string, I was going to play it on my 8 string for the low Ab, but it just wasn't worth the extra struggle to play on a big neck for like two notes. Anything on the low E string, just play it on the 6th string. Or tune your guitar down.
My performance is ok, definitely room for improvement. However, I get a sense that a song like this isn’t going to be played perfectly in a live setting. Still though, the fact that I technically have an unlimited number of tries, stresses me out so much and creates a bunch of unnecessary nerves.
Last Notes:
Thanks for watching! Please follow this for my ego, instagram.com/larrypenna34 I will upload some short videos there I made from two years ago when I didn’t post anything.Ne Obliviscaris - Equus | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2023-03-24 | Tried to get this out before the album came out, but I had so much trouble trying to figure out what program I needed to use for syncing up my audio and video. I used Cubase at first, but I had to reformat the video, and it lowered the quality. Then I tried free editors, all of them wanted me to reformat. Finally, I decided to watch a video on how people go about doing covers, and it made me come up with the solution, which was to find an iPhone app that would edit videos. So now I have my actual audio that I recorded into the computer.
The violin solos are too particular, and it's about as good as I could make it in guitar tablature.
There were many iterations of the chord progression, it's the hardest thing to transcribe for me. Measures 35-50 feels the closest. The others didn't seem right.
For the solo, I know that Benjamin plays it differently. I transcribed it based on my interpretation of the studio recording (this was prior to watching him). Where my interpretation differs with his playthrough is that I do some of the natural harmonics in different spots. The fast run, I heard as entirely legato, and B dorian. He plays it in B harmonic minor and does a combination of alternate picking and legato. Lastly is the alternate picking section; I heard different notes and articulation.
I really made an effort to bring a better quality performance than in the past. I felt that I prepared correctly, but couldn’t show it in one take because of my nerves with the camera on.
Thanks for watching, subscribing, liking, sharing, and especially for the comments. I read and appreciate all of them, even the ones roasting me.gmtn. (witchs slave) - furioso melodia | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2020-03-05 | Not entirely perfect, but I felt like I played the hard parts pretty decently, so I'm fine with this.
I had originally found the transcription off of reddit awhile ago, but it was only for half the song and a good amount of it was incorrect, so I almost redid the entire transcription Here is my tab: mediafire.com/file/9rm4bngei7rfbvo/FurosiaMelodia.gp5/fileNe Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2020-01-20 | After looking over the video I wish I couldve given a better view of the fretboard. Played some of the violin parts because I wanted to.
I grabbed the tab online and it was accurate for the most part, but I changed some stuff in it and added guitar and violin solos.
I think the song is played in C standard, but I'm playing it in 7 string standard. Here is the tab use the track that is titled "WHAT I PLAY" mediafire.com/file/vvl33anj6fs8p36/The_Promethean_Kings.gp5/fileXi - Ascension To Heaven | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2019-02-22 | This is probably the hardest piece of music I have ever learned, so know that it's more of an attempt than a perfect cover. Maybe one day I can perfect it and make a metal cover.
The second time the chorus is played, it is played a semitone higher. I ended up using a pitch shifter just to save time from relearning the same thing a fret higher.
Here is his video, youtube.com/watch?v=-_MmTFkMowgSpawn of Possession - Apparition | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2018-12-12 | About my 4th time relearning this since 2015, made some minor changes to how I used to play it. The improv at the beggining isn't that great, but I did it anyways since I like the intro.
I actually used to use the tab that was somewhere on the internet, but after rechecking it, I found a couple of mistakes. Here is the tab where I made the corrections (only for left guitar track)
Might be wrong with my corrections for the riffs, but the solo should be more accurate since I used Danny Tunker's video for guidance.UNDEAD CORPORATION - Embraced by the Flame | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2018-11-29 | Mostly played vocal melody, otherwise I would be playing a bunch of power chords.
This song should be either C standard or drop C tuning, but I was playing in E standard, so the intro riff was played sloppy since it was a huge strech.
There are a couple of mistakes and I didnt tab out a lot of the rhythm guitar parts, I suggest using it as a guide, but I might consider making the tab a little more complete in the future. The track in the tab named "MUTE ME" has everything I played in the video.Imperial Circus Dead Decadence - Uta | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2018-09-25 | Played some of the parts that weren't for guitar otherwise I'd either be playing nothing or whole note power chords. Unfortunately, the bottom of my guitar got cut off a little, but 9 minute song is too long for me to do over. The sound is heavy on bass, especially if you listen with speakers, so its best to listen with headphones and not too high volume. Video editors are too hard so I can't fix it.
Here is the tab I made, I know for sure that I got a couple of things wrong in it. http://www.mediafire.com/file/z2uaqmi2n6o8s28/Uta.gp5/file Im pretty sure its in either drop D or D standard(or maybe C#) but im playing it in standard tuning on a 7 string. The track that I named "mute me" has all the parts that I play.John Coltrane - My Favorite Things (First Solo) | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2018-08-20 | This is just my attempt at playing the solo the same way it was played on the recording because I was curious to see how a Coltrane solo would be played on guitar. Using distortion is my preference, so sorry if you rather me play clean. Not perfect by any means, mainly timing issues, but I still learned a lot from it and hope others can too.
I was working on a different piece for awhile but I realized it would take more than a month to learn so I decided to cover this for now. Not as complicated as other songs I've covered, but it was still fun to play.
I tried to make it where you can hear the guitar more than the song, that's why the song volume is kind of low.
Here is my tab done by ear, tell me in the comments if it doesn't work mediafire.com/file/oco9y7j61215d41/The+Empress+.gp5First Fragment - Lentité | Guitar CoverLarry Penna2018-06-26 | Some mistakes here and I wish I could've played the last solo a little better, but I'm somewhat satisfied with the cover, and ready to move on to a different piece.
Also, I had to cut the bass down in the track and on my guitar tone because it sounded really boomy on my phone.
Here is my tab, this song is played in C# on the recording but Im playing it in E standard so you might want to convert it if you use 6 strings. (I play it in standard because Ibanez trems always give me trouble) mediafire.com/file/wt9wr5b3z1m6e14/L'entit%C3%A9.gp5
If it doesn't work tell me in the commentsChristian Muenzner - Demons Gate | Guitar Cover | Tab in descriptionLarry Penna2018-06-06 | I learned this one half a year ago, not sure why I didn't make a video but here it is. Couldn't manage to get a run where I played every solo perfectly, so my bad for that.
If you want the actual tab, buy the tab book christianmuenzner.bandcamp.com/merch/beyond-the-wall-of-sleep-tabbookFirst Fragment - Émergence | Solo Cover | Tab in descriptionLarry Penna2018-05-20 | Learned this one back in August but I didn't have the equipment I wanted to record videos. Made a couple of mistakes because I can't play pinch harmonics consistently on this guitar. Once again, I'm playing this in standard tuning even though this song isn't played in standard tuning.
Another cover that's not First Fragment soon, unless I suck.First Fragment - Evhron | Guitar Cover | Tab in descriptionLarry Penna2018-04-18 | Sorry for mistakes and sloppy playing mostly at the beginning but I would've gone insane trying to get every part perfect for a 7 minute song. If there were any natural harmonics in the song I couldn't play them because I'm pretty sure this song is in C# or Eb tuning and I'm playing it in standard.
Here is the tab I made, if it doesn't work tell me in comments. mediafire.com/file/r2d221mnf2829hv/Evhron.gp5 It is all done by ear which means there are probably a couple of mistakes. The rhythm guitar for the lead parts aren't done so feel free to correct/add to the tab.
