Gloomy but its home - Ryan Leach October 2022 Composing Competition HugoJ 2022-10-20 | This is my submission to Ryan Leach's composition competition! You're supposed to write a piece of music that's inspired by this artwork. The conditions are that you write your music on music sheets and have to have instruments that contain either of the following:1 Flute1 Oboe1 Bb Clarinet1 Bassoon2 Bb Trumpets1 Tenor Trombone1 Bass Trombone2 French Horns1 Harp5 Violins I4 Violins II4 Violas4 Violoncellos1 Contrabass1 Percussionist (Timpani, Snare Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbal, Triangle, Tambourine, Woodblock) Reason being is because the winner gets the chance to have their music played by a real orchestra that uses these instruments.As I'm working on my own original series and write music for that, I also need to learn how to write for sheet music, and I feel like this competition was just the motivation I needed to learn how to do it! Luckily I was never that type of kid so I cheated instead by coding in millions of dollars for you to spend on expensive furnitures and swimming pools. I think this was also the game that got me into jazz, atleast the first game's soundtrack, the music in that game is absolutely perfect. Atleast, that's how it was for me, until this theme was suggested for this challenge so it fit nicely for today's theme! I've always loved this melody but now hearing it in full I love it even more! Pilotwings is a series that's been going on since SNES and it actually has different versions of the Hang Glider theme, so this one on the 3DS is an original interpitation with callbacks to the original melody, which I'm a sucker for! Day 23: Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Boss Theme 1 - VGM ANIMATED Challenge HugoJ 2020-12-23 | For those unaware, there is a challenge that's going on on twitter called VGM Challenge where you're supposed to do covers from a game each day depending the theme, and I'll be doing a cover every day with little animations to go along to make up for the lack of animated covers this year!What if I told you there's a fantastic platformer out there with gameplay similar to Sonic the Hedgehog if you combined the blue speedy hedgehog and his flying yellow fox into one character and made him a green rabbit with a gun? You get Jazz Jackrabbit 2, perhaps one of the best 90's 2D platformers for the PC that not many people have heard off. Day 22: Pokémon: G&S New Bark Town - VGM ANIMATED Challenge HugoJ 2020-12-22 | For those unaware, there is a challenge that's going on on twitter called VGM Challenge where you're supposed to do covers from a game each day depending the theme, and I'll be doing a cover every day with little animations to go along to make up for the lack of animated covers this year!Seeing as I never played Pokémon games, myself, the extent of my knowledge in Pokémon music was generation 1, the anime or Super Smash Bros. Having discovered way more gems of this franchise I've come to love the new ones even more than the classic ones, particularly Gold and Silver and Diamond and Pearl. Day 16: Castlevania IV Chandeliers - ANIMATED VGM Challenge HugoJ 2020-12-17 | For those unaware, there is a challenge that's going on on twitter called VGM Challenge where you're supposed to do covers from a game each day depending the theme, and I'll be doing a cover every day with little animations to go along to make up for the lack of animated covers this year!For such a power house of music like Castlevania, it's almost criminal that the 4th installment hardly has any covers, let alone any Smash Bros remixes, other than Simon's Theme. It's an incredible game where not only is the gameplay top-notch but the music compositions fits every single stage with their own distinct identity. The Chandeliers theme is probably my most favourite. Contrary to popular belief, I honestly think Banjo-Tooie is my personal favourite of the series. I loved the worlds and the vast exploration, and the music by the great Grant Kirkhope is really pushing new grounds, namely the boss music. Turning the level music into bombastic orchestral boss music must be a stroke of genius arranging and is really a testament for how well the melodies fit into the wacky world of Banjo-Kazooie. Day 12: MGS4 Father and Son - ANIMATED VGM Challenge HugoJ 2020-12-12 | For those unaware, there is a challenge that's going on on twitter called VGM Challenge where you're supposed to do covers from a game each day depending the theme, and I'll be doing a cover every day with little animations to go along to make up for the lack of animated covers this year!The infamous 1 hour long cutscene now condenced down to atleast 2 minutes. This was a tough one to decide since I couldn't think of a lot of recent game tracks that makes me sad, atleast not the series I plan on for this challenge, of course. Then I thought of moments in old games that made me cry and, while the first thing that came to mind was Valiant Hearts. This game had it all, fantastic characters, hilarious animations and addicting gameplay. While I don't play the game much anymore, I have very fond memories of playing this back in early 2010. Contrary to the video's belief, I was the demoman, but Soldier's theme "Rocket Jump Waltz" is my personal favourite song in TF2's soundtrack. Day 5: Banjo-Kazooie: Gruntildas Lair - Animated VGM Challenge HugoJ 2020-12-05 | For those unaware, there is a challenge that's going on on twitter called VGM Challenge where you're supposed to name do covers from a game each day depending the theme, and I'll be doing a cover every day with little animations to go along to make up for the lack of animated covers this year!After I did the Banjo-Kazooie animation two years back, I've had a hard time to figure out how I wanted to make a sequel for it considering there are so many fantastic tracks from this wonderful game. With this challenge I figured that Gruntilda's Lair was a very fitting choice for this, plus a great excuse to experiment with instrumentation!
