I sincerely thank you all for your support in achieving this outcome.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Original Description:GeoGuessr recently partnered with Audeobox and FL Studio to challenge their community to create a compelling remix for their new theme song, "Legendary" by Mapei.The "GeoGuessr Remix Challenge" was advertised as a contest for the GeoGuessr community to enter and then for the GeoGuessr community to subsequently decide the winners of based solely on a public popular vote. However, despite what was stated in the the official rules and promotional materials, three entrants who ranked far below the actual popular vote leaders were selected as the โwinners.โThis outcome appears inconsistent with the contestโs stated terms and raises significant concerns about the integrity of this and any future contests that these brands may be associated with. By disregarding the results of the popular vote, GeoGuessr, Audeobox, and FL Studio undermined the contributions of the entrants who worked the hardest to engage with the community and the community itself who turned out in the hundreds to make their voices heard.The three true popular vote winners (jaspinko, 0xkamikex0, and ebourrigan) were denied of our rightfully-earned victories because of these companies' disregard for the will of the popular vote. When challenged by us rightful winners, GeoGuessr decided to side with Audeobox rather than its own community, even when that community has made it clear that the official terms of the contest were not honored. Why would GeoGuessr stand by a partner that disrespects their own community? Why are they okay with this outcome where Audeobox erased about a hundred votes stemming from some of GeoGuessr's most engaged users?While I was personally cheated out of the first place win in this contest, it very easily could have been another GeoGuessr content creator in my position. It could have been someone without the privilege of having a platform to show the public what really happened. Ireland is home to just over 5 million people and just over 4 million sheep. ๐ Let's learn what clues we might find in a game of GeoGuessr that would tell us we're on the Emerald Isle.Road signs are one obvious tell that you're in Ireland; the vast majority of the time, you'll see place names provided in both Irish and English; the Irish is usually written in italics above its equivalent in English.Another more obvious hint that you're in Ireland over the UK is the presence of dashed yellow lines along the roadsides. These dashed yellow lines indicate that a driver should not pull over there unless it is an emergency. The UK uses solid white lines to indicate that message instead, so given similar landscapes, these road lines can help you pick the correct country.It can be very helpful to learn all 26 of the counties in Ireland (and the 6 in Northern Ireland) for pinpointing your location quicker. Let's learn about the clues we can look for in Ghana's Streetview imagery to figure out if we're in this nation while we play GeoGuessr! ๐ฌ๐ญThe single most obvious hint you're in Ghana as of now is the presence of black tape around one of the metal bars on the roof of the Google car; simply pan down and look for the tape as it's seen in the video.Ghana's license plates come in both short and long varieties and they can be either white or yellow. When you know that you're in Ghana, how do you narrow down your options for pinpointing your location?First, keep in mind that Streetview coverage is currently limited. You'll only end up either in one of the larger cities or along a major roadway through the country. There is a large gap in coverage in the center of the country, so unless you're trying to hedge your guess, it's rarely a good idea to guess directly in the center of the country.You can get a feel for how far north you are based on how the groundcover plants look. If there is ample lush groundcover obscuring the dirt, then you're probably nearer to the ocean in the south. ๐ด 7 GeoGuessr Tips for the Dominican Republic! ๐ฉ๐ด #Shorts jaspinko 2023-02-25 | ๐ด On February 27th, the Dominican Republic celebrates its Independence Day (Dรญa de la Independencia), commemorating the start of the nation's second war for independence in 1844. Let's learn what clues we can look for in a game of GeoGuessr to identify this geographically and culturally diverse Caribbean nation! ๐ฉ๐ดFirstly, how might we recognize whether we're in the Dominican Republic or not? One easy tell is if we pan down and notice that the Streetview car has metal bars on its roof with black rubber inlays; the inlays are the distinguishing feature, as there are countless places where the car merely has bars on the roof. The only other place you may encounter these inlays is Mongolia, but the climates and languages of these two places are so obviously different that you shouldn't be mistaken which of the two you're in.Once we know that we're in the Dominican Republic, how would we pinpoint our location? Luckily (or not, depending on how you look at it) there are only two cities in the whole country that have official Streetview coverage as of February 2023: Santo Domingo, the nation's capital, and Santiago de los Caballeros, the nation's largest city. This means you can immediately rule out all but a couple small pockets of the country.Santo Domingo is coastal whereas Santiago de los Caballeros is not, so if you see the ocean on the southern horizon, you'll know which city you're in. If you don't have a view of the horizon, however, don't fret as there are other ways to tell the two cities apart. Santo Domingo's utility poles tend to have yellow paint around their bases more often, while Santiago's utility poles tend to have gray paint around their bases more often. There are exceptions to this, of course, but the dominant color you see amongst several utility poles should follow this pattern.๐ Have you ever traveled to the Dominican Republic? This eastern European nation of over 6 million is home to a variety of landscapes. Let's learn what clues we might encounter in a game of GeoGuessr that would tell us we're in Serbia, and in some cases, where within Serbia we are! ๐ท๐ธSerbian bollards often feature reflectors that are offset from the bollards' centers, placed nearer to the side of the road. This is different from most European bollards which have reflectors set in the bollards' centers.Serbian signs utilize both Latin and Cyrillic scripts, which helps to quickly rule out countries that tend to only use one script or the other.Highway & road signs tend to inherit their color from the type of road they're on; highway numbers that show up as green on the map ("A" and "E-" highways) will have green signs, whereas highway numbers that show up as yellow on the map will have yellow signs.Once you've figured out you're in Serbia, a quick look at the surrounding topography can help you narrow down which part of the country you're in. In general, northern Serbia is flat and blanketed in agricultural fields, and the further south you travel, the more hilly and forested things become. Home to over 125 million people and 350,000 miles of roads, Japan shows up very often in worldwide rounds of GeoGuessr. So, let's learn how to recognize the Land of the Rising Sun as it appears in Google Maps! ๐ฏ๐ตOne of the clues that you're in Japan that is universal to Streetview imagery throughout the country is the feeling that you're closer to the ground than in most other countries with Streetview; this "low cam" is isolated to a handful of places like Japan, Switzerland, and Sri Lanka, where the camera is mounted lower than it is in most other countries.When there are signs in view, keep a keen eye out for written Japanese; this can take on many forms, from complicated Kanji (e.g., ็ซ) to the simplified Katakana (e.g., ใใณ) or the Hirigana (e.g., ใญใ) in between.While Japan's highway numbers don't follow a perfect numbering pattern from one cardinal direction to another, you can generally find similarly-numbered roads near each other. National highways are represented by blue rounded triangular shields (or, as I like to call them "guitar pick" shapes), while prefectural highways are represented by blue hexagonal shields. Since national highways are more prominent on the map, I would focus my efforts on finding one of these rather than scanning for a prefectural highway.Have you ever been to Japan? Sinhala is the most notable of these three as it's distinctively very "curvy". Let's learn about some of the top clues that'll help you become an expert at New Zealand when it comes up in a game of GeoGuessr! ๐ณ๐ฟNew Zealand is situated in the Southern Hemisphere, so the standard clues for that applyโthe sun is located in the northern half of the sky and home satellite dishes point to the North, as geosynchronous satellites orbit above the equator.Like its neighbor to the west, Australia, New Zealand follows a left-handed traffic pattern. To solve a tossup between the two nations, look for road signs and road lines:1. New Zealand's bollards have a red stripe that entirely covers the front whereas Australia's bollards have rectangular or circular reflectors that are inset within the face of the bollard.2. New Zealand's "Give Way" signs have red text whereas Australia's have black text3. New Zealand's speed limit signs are cut out into circles whereas Australia's are printed on rectangular signs.4. Australia very rarely uses yellow paint on roads, so the presence of yellow road lines should tilt your guess in favor of New Zealand.5. New Zealand's highway shields are red whereas Australia's are not.When you know that you are in fact in New Zealand, there are a few ways you can narrow down where within the country you are:1. Let's take a look at a few clues that will help you identify Uganda while playing GeoGuessr! ๐บ๐ฌUganda currently has sparse Google Streetview coverage: only the Kampala metro area and a handful of national parks have official imagery. This can be both good news and bad news from the perspective of a GeoGuessr player. It's good news in that if you recognize the large white SUV on which the Streetview camera is mounted, you're almost guaranteed to be in Kampala. It's bad news in that if you are otherwise in a national park, it'll be extremely difficult to pinpoint which park you're in and furthermore where within that park you start.Other Ugandan clues are less unique to this country in particular but can help you differentiate from other sub-Saharan African nations. The concept is simple: we each pick a map and movement settings that we're the strongest at, and reserve a neutral third map/settings in the event of a tiebreaker. Let's take a look at a few clues that will help you identify Chile while playing GeoGuessr! ๐จ๐ฑChile spans an incredible length of the South American continent, so you can find pretty much any type of climate and landscape within its borders. The northernmost portion of the country is home to the extremely arid Atacama Desert, where the lack of vegetation allows you to see for miles in all directions. The central bulk of the country is lush with trees and agriculture, with prominent mountains visible on the eastern horizon. The very south of the country features a contrast of treeless grasslands and extreme snow-capped mountain peaks.Chile differs from other South American countries in its abundant use of white road lines. While there are some roads in Argentina that use white center lines, these are much more prevalent in Chile. The exception to Chile's favoritism for white road lines is in the southern tip of the country, where the road lines are all yellow to aide in visibility when conditions get snowy.Most Chilean utility poles are made of concrete and have a tapered shape, starting thicker at the bottom and narrowing near their tops. They also have an indentation through their thicker sections. Let's learn about a few of the common visual cues you'll see in GeoGuessr that'll help you figure out if you're in Mexico! ๐ฒ๐ฝMexico features a variety of landscapes, from arid and flat to lush and mountainous. In general, the flatter desert landscapes will be in the northern parts of the country near the border with the US, while the lush mountainous areas will be in the center and south, and lush flat areas on the Yucatan Peninsula.Stop signs in Mexico bear the word "ALTO", which can help you immediately rule out South America, where countries opt for the word "PARE" instead. Not that neighboring Guatemala also uses the word "ALTO", but the Streetview car in Guatemala has large metal bars across its roof that you're able to see if you pan down, while the cars used in Mexico don't have this.Phone number area codes can help you narrow your search to a section of the country based on the first digit. Since 2018, Brazil has followed the Mercosur standard plate design in agreement with several other South American nations; this design sports a blue bar across the top of the plate. More advanced GeoGuessrs should take note of certain foliage and landscape cues like the color of the dirt to determine where within Brazil a rural location is. The Paranรก pine is a unique conifer tree that is almost exclusively found in the state of Paranรก. Brazil has a ton of unique visual cues that'll can help you figure out where you're are in GeoGuessr - here are just a few to get you started! ๐ง๐ทFirstly, Brazil is both the largest and most populous Portuguese-speaking nation on Earth, so one of the first things you'll notice is an abundance of Portuguese written on signs. You can differentiate Portuguese from Spanish due to the prevalence of tilde-clad vowels (ร & ร) and c's sporting cedillas (ร). Nearly all road signs in Brazil have their backs painted black. You can really step up your game by learning the two-digit phone area code system; Brazil is split up into 9 different regions for the first digit, then within each region the second digit is ordered from the most populous/important metro area starting with '1'. Here are a few tips to help you find your way around Kyrgyzstan in a game of GeoGuessr! ๐ฐ๐ฌKyrgyzstan is a mountainous country and its Street View imagery was captured in the colder months so snow-capped peaks are a common sight. Your view of the mountains is unlikely to be blocked by trees because they are far and few between outside of towns. If you are able to pan down and look at the Google car, you'll notice that it has two metal bars across the roof and large sideview mirrors. Some other countries like Ghana and Senegal also have metal bars on their Street View cars' roofs, so keep in mind that this meta clue is not to be used in isolation of other contextual clues. Street View coverage in Kyrgyzstan is pretty limited; Bishkek has the lion's share of urban imagery. Outside of Bishkek, there are just a few highways between Osh in the Southwest and Karakol in the Northeast that have coverage. Kyrgyzstan's license plates are wide, white, and have red badges along their left edges. Bollards are rectangular and white with singular diagonal black stripes near their tops. The flag of Kyrgyzstan is red with a yellow sun emblem in the center. Here are a few tips to help you find your way around Indonesia in a game of GeoGuessr! ๐ฎ๐ฉIndonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, consisting of over 17,000 islands. Only a fraction of those are permanently inhabited, however, and even fewer of them have Google Street View coverage. Focus on learning the large islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo, and Sulawesi where the majority of Indonesian Street View coverage exists. The first 2 digits of landline phone numbers can help you figure out which of these islands you're on (see the graphic in the video for specifics). License plates are black with white text like they are in Indonesia's neighbor Malaysia. How can you tell you're in South Korea just by glancing at some Streetview imagery? Stay tuned to find out! ๐ฐ๐ทSouth Korea is a mountainous and densely populated country, especially in the areas that Google has covered with Streetview so far. License plates are white on private passenger vehicles and yellow on service vehicles. South Korea drives on the right side of the road, which is a quick way to rule out being in Japan if you are considering a choice between the two. Another way of differentiating South Korea from neighboring countries is the writing system: Hangul (meaning "Great Script") is built from many simple line and circle building blocks.
