Sean DoveHey guys - Sean Dove here back with another cinema 4d quick tip!
A little while ago one of you guys sent me this great animation made by a studio called Moose Tank and asked, how could we go about creating a similar animation. In the clip we see this really cool morph, transform effect between different pieces of technology and the whole thing is really impressive!
To better understand how Moose Tank created this transform animation I went frame by frame during one of the morph states to see if we could get any clues. Something I did noticed was that as it begins to morph, the next state actually seems to scales up in pieces as the previous scales down - and when this is played back in real time it looks like they transformed seamlessly. Now of course this is over simplifying this great piece however it will be the bases for how we start to attach it for ourselves!
So of course I was pumped to see what sort of results we could achieve - we will have a play trying to transform between two seperate objects by taking full advantage of some Mograph effectors and get some dynamics involved to finish it all off.
alright, lets have a play!

Today I wanted to share my approach to get this really fun and organic twisting effect taking advantage of Soft Body dynamics inside Cinema 4D. It's a super simple technique that I think can lend itself to a heap of possibilities.
Alright, let's jump in and have a play!Cinema 4D tutorial - Dynamic spline logo revealSean Dove2022-01-16 | G’day guys - My name is Sean Dove, a creative from Melbourne Australia. I think I've found my new obsession - I’ve only just discovered you can use Soft Bodies on splines to create really fun and dynamic animations!
I've share a few results I'd been playing with on Instagram and I thought it might be worth while to discuss my approach to create this logo reveal where the splines build up and wrap around revealing a silhouette of our shape or logo. Alright, let's jump straight in!Cinema 4D tutorial - Animated cloth logo revealSean Dove2022-01-09 | So, ah - its been a minute... went missing for a bit last year so I though it would be worthwhile reintroducing myself.
My name is Sean Dove and I'm a creative from Melbourne Australia - I'm the art director at a studio and production company here called Chocolate Studios.
So, what are we having a play with today?
I have recently been playing with soft bodies inside Cinema 4D to create these nice cloth wrinkles, a lot thanks to a three-part series Chris Schmidt from Rocket Lasso put together where he goes into detail how to fine tune the effect.
I really encorage you to go check out the full series!
Using some of the techniques he discusses I wanted to share my approach to achieve this fun logo reveal as the cloth spins up around the ball.
I shared this on my instagram and a few reached out wanting to know a few more details so lets give it a go!Cinema 4D tutorial - fun and EASY reflectionsSean Dove2020-10-11 | Hey guys - welcome back, if you’re new here my names Sean Dove, a motion designer from Melbourne Australia and today we are going to take a look at another cinema 4d quick tip!
Today I wanted to take a look at a super easy way we can create this fun selfie style reflection.
I was inspired to have a go at this after been a long time fan of the incredible work by the artist know as Fanakapan - If you don’t know who he is, his instagram bio reads ‘the pioneer of balloon Graff’ and I think that sums his work up perfectly. Not only is his stuff wildly creative but his ability to capture reflections is just mind blowing - and this is all by hand. Insane.
So I was inspired to see what sort or results we could achieve using cinema 4D! Before we start I figured we we’re going to need some sort of reflective ball, now unfortunately I don't have a nice vfx chome ball handy - but what I did have lying about was this badboy, the humble christmas bauble - its not perfect, the surface is a little rough but I thought it might just be able to do the trick! Next we ran outside and I snapped this guy just using my iPhone - I tried to get as close as possible to maximise the resolution because we are going to use this image for our reflections.
alright with that ready lets jump in and have a play!

Email - hello@seandove.com.au Instagram - instagram.com/seantysondove Website - https://www.seandove.com.auEbSynth tutorial - Digital ageing visual effect using A.ISean Dove2019-09-01 | So I’ve always been impressive how they can make actors look older or younger in blockbuster movies with the use of make up and particularly CGI.
We’ve seen it with Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button and more recently with Will Smith where we can see in the trailer for his new movie Gemini Man a much younger version of himself and he actually did a break down on his youtube channel on how the VFX team actually did it, Ill leave a link below to anyone keen to take a look.
So today I wanted to take a look and see if we could achieve similar-ish results but without the Hollywood budget - I have to give a huge shout out to Ben Marriot, a fellow Australian artist who’s open approach to design is truly inspiring, its thanks to him I now know about the program we are going to be using today - its called EbSynth and its a free tool designed to make your videos look like animated paintings. The way it works is by taking a reference frame that you’ve painted and then converts the remaining frames to match. You can also feed it multiple reference frames from throughout your video to make for a better end result.
I got very excited when I saw what this program was creating, the videos are quite surreal and they really do have this unique quality about them where it feels like so much more than just an overlay on footage, they really feel like live paintings.
But instead of creating a painting I wanted to see if we can use this tool for something else, I want too see if we can create reference frames of our actor looking old or young and feed it into the software to hopefully manipulate the rest of the footage.
Okay lets jump in and see how we go!

We are going to attack this by setting up vertex maps to drive the animation - this is something I’ve really been trying to get my head around, especially since they introduced the field system to work with and effect vertex maps.
Now I’m certainly still learning this as we go but hey, what better way to learn than together!

G’day guys, Sean Dove here, back with another Cinema 4D quick tip!
Today I wanted to take a look at how we can create this fun text inflate animation using the pose morph tag to drive it.
To initially set this up we are going to be using a technique that EJ from Eye Design recent showed us. In his amazing tutorial he shows us how to create these cloth inflation simulations and gets absolutely incredible results! So using his technique we are going to art direct an inflated and deflated state of our text then take advantage of the pose morph tag and the new falloff system to have full control animating between the two different states.
Make sure you check out EJs tutorial also, Ill leave a link down below - his understanding of cloth dynamics and anything Cinema 4D related for that matter really is second to none and I must say I owe a great deal of what I know to him - Cheers EJ

A little while ago I got sent the opening title sequence for a kids show called Figure It Out and I was asked how could we go about recreate their effect.
This creative piece was made by the team over at BUCK and as someone who loves playing with perspective I was really excited to try this technique. In the clip we see this skewed text projected onto this underground, carpark style, scene - and with a nice camera swing we start to see the text begin to line up before reaching that final sweet spot where it reads seamlessly.
So I thought we'd have a quick look at putting together a scene using simple shapes and then have a play with some camera projections and perspective and see how it turns out!
Special thanks to Oliver Santiago for allowing me to use his artwork to demonstrate this technique - make sure you check out his full series, the whole thing is insane.

This is something I've told myself I want to do more of, exploring new techniques, stepping outside my comfort zone, potentially failing a lot but hopefully learning by doing! The idea of play and being less concerned on achieving a prefect outcome is what being a creative is all about, and its what original drew me to pursue a career that would allow me to be creative.
When I think of creatives that have managed to continue this sense of play and integrate that with successful creative careers the first that come to my mind are FOREALS founders, Benjamin Simon and Dirk Schuster. These guys clearly love what they do and it shows through their tongue in cheek creative right through to their playful language as a self proclaimed ‘Non-award-winning design studio’.They recently participated in 36 Days of Type, which is an open call to all creatives to creative a letter a day working through the entire alphabet, and each day they blew me away! They made this mixed media series combining 3D letters with illustrative details - details they actually hand drew. I know, crazy.
They really inspired me and made me want to try achieve this mixed media inspired look. Now, my drawing skills are no where near the level reached by the guys at FOREAL, we did get some Wacom tablets in at work so I will practice, but for now I thought id try using the sketch and toon renderer inside Cinema 4D to see if I can get close.
This is something I don’t have a lot of experience with so I thought what better way to start this whole idea of play with. Lets jump in!

I was inspired to have a go at this technique after seeing the amazing work from Eduard Mykhailov where he used after effects to create some truely impressive clips and I wanted to share my thinking of how we could use Cinema 4d to create some similar results.
The set up we are going to put together will give us so much control to iterate quickly, and the entire animation is driven by only 2 keyframes!
We will touch on a few key points that should give you a good idea on how to attack something like this for yourself. I wanted to start this off by going over of bit of the setup of the actual graphics - then we will look at building the glitch animation before throwing in some fun camera movements to finish it off.
Also special thanks to my mate Luke for his amazing efforts putting together the sound design on this one for me - guys make sure you check him out.

Bring photos to life tutorial - youtu.be/36kdBz3D-0kCinema 4D tutorial - Advanced splines made easySean Dove2018-04-04 | Hey guys Sean Dove here and today Ive got a quick tip I want to share that I think you’ll like
Working with splines is one of my favourite things to do inside cinema 4D I grew up playing with photoshop using the pen tool to create paths so splines just made sense to me - they’re great for typography or to create a path for an object to follow
However a detailed spline can be time consuming to set up. What I mean when I say this is when you import a spline to Cinema, lets say a text path you’ve set up in photoshop or illustrator, it comes in flat - but what I want to create is this nice interweaving within the spine and ultimately a heap of depth.
I say this can be a time consuming because if you have a path with 50 or even 100 points, manually placing them can be extremely tedious - Ive done my fair share of manual spline point placement so I though I had to find a way to speed up the process
Im going to share a quick tip for how to create this nice interweaving and depth within your spline, without needing to move even one point - to demonstrate this technique Im going to use a spline inspired by a single line art piece from french creative duo DFT. The work these guys are doing is stunning, ill pop a link down below to their work go check them out, seriously impressive!
Also shoutout to Vincent Montel and the Spewmen for sharing their bands music video with me where they used one of my tutorials to create these great clips - they really pushed it further and the end result looks great! Thanks guys!

Spray Can Download http://bit.ly/2upfww03 FAST ways to make NEON signs Cinema 4D TUTORIALSean Dove2017-09-09 | Hey, we are going to look at 3 ways we can use splines to make neon type and signs inside Cinema 4D.
Who doesn't love a bit of neon action?
I feel like one of the biggest requests I get is to create neon typography, and I love it! On top of that though if you're working on a branding project it's always nice to show the mark beyond its vector form, give it a bit of real world context - and a nice shiny neon sign of your new logo can be a great way to do that.
let's jump straight in and I'll show you the 3 ways I found to make these neon signs really quick!DRIPPING GOLD TEXT CINEMA 4D TUTORIALSean Dove2017-08-28 | Hey, I wanted to start this one on a bit of a personal note. There are officially over 1000 of you guys subscribed to my channel since I started posting tutorials a couple of months ago and I have to say the support has been insane and a great motivator to keep doing what I'm doing - so thank you.
On that note, I thought it would be fun to create some dripping gold text to celebrate this milestone.
We are going to play around with the spine wrap, the pose morph, sculpt tools, some modelling - let's get straight to it!TURN PHOTOS INTO 3D SCENES CINEMA 4D TUTORIALSean Dove2017-08-20 | today I wanted to show you how we can take photos and turn them into 3D scenes.
We will touch on some basic modelling techniques mixed with a bit of camera projection and end up with a 3D scene ready to start building up our animation.
This is a great way to introduce some seemingly complex visuals to your scene and give your photos a whole other dimension.
lets take a look at what I’m talking about in action then dive in and see how it comes together.

We are going to be taking full advantage of a couple of mograph effectors and also having a bit of a play with the tracer object.
To demonstrate this technique I thought it would be fun to build up an animation morphing between the classic Coca Cola bottle and Coke can.
let's take a look at what we are going to create then dive straight in.LOGO REVEAL ANIMATION CINEMA 4D TUTORIALSean Dove2017-07-31 | If there is a sexy part of cinema 4D it has to be the Cinema 4D dynamics!
Harnessing Dynamics with the Mograph Effectors is a great way to bring your concepts to life and to let Cinema 4D do a lot of the heavy lifting.
I created a logo reveal for a company called Cornerstone Paving where we were able to utilise these effectors with the dynamics to create a fun engaging piece really quickly.
So I'm going to break down a few of the shots from the logo reveal to give you a basic understanding of these tools.
Let's take a look and then jump straight in!HOW TO MODEL A COFFEE CUP CINEMA 4D TUTORIALSean Dove2017-07-22 | I don’t know about you, but personally - I don’t even begin to function properly until I’ve paid a visit to my local watering hole.
