The powwow is a time for celebrating First Nations culture, languages and the spirit of dancing and singing. The annual First Nations University of Canada Powwow is one of the most significant cultural events in the province. Celebrating its 42rd anniversary, it is one of the largest powwows in Western Canada and sees over 8,000 spectators and participants each year. The family-friendly event bridges Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures. Everyone is welcome. June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, which acknowledges the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The program was introduced when the new Scott Collegiate and mâmâweyatitân centre opened in 2017. Pathway students hone their skills in the mâmawi café, where experience is the teacher. This is Saskatchewan by Felipe Gomez Saskatchewanderer 2022-04-08 | Hi everyone! This is my final post as The Saskatchewanderer. I can't believe it has been a year already. Becoming The Saskatchewanderer was a dream come true. From the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful to everyone who has followed this journey. I have been warmly welcomed in communities across Saskatchewan and the most memorable part of the job was learning about your favourite places and secret spots from locals all over the province.Special thanks to Conexus Credit Union , the title sponsor of this program. I saw firsthand the impact of their services and support all over the province. One of my favourite moments this year was learning how to make lentil empanadas at the Regina Food Bank, which Connexus strongly supports. I was incredibly moved by that beautiful work. I also want to thank CAA Saskatchewan for providing the iconic and reliable Wanderermobile. I felt the energy and legacy of the previous Wanderers as soon as I sat in the driver's seat and put my hands on the wheel. One of my favourite CAA moments was joining their team in Regina at the Show n’ Shine where I really felt their passion for promoting driving safety and beautiful destinations. I’ve also seen firsthand CAA’s impact all over Saskatchewan, having been rescued more than once. There's something incredibly reassuring about seeing that CAA truck pull up!It is nearly impossible, to sum up my experience as The Saskatchewanderer this year, but I hope my final piece entitled “This is Saskatchewan” comes close. To bring my vision for this piece to the screen, I invited some really good friends and ALL-round creative forces to join me. Empanadas with a Saskatchewan twist at Conexus Commercial Kitchen- Regina Food Bank Saskatchewanderer 2021-11-05 | 🥟Hi Everyone Growing up in Chile, it was all about soccer and empanadas; here in Saskatchewan, I learned about the Riders, bannock, and of course pierogies!Here’s a video I did at the Conexus Commercial Kitchen at the Regina Food Bank, where, to my surprise, Chef Chad Forrest was preparing my beloved empanadas with a Saskatchewan twist. I recently heard about the Farmers Feeding Families partnership between Viterra and the Regina Food Bank and had to learn more. Through this partnership, Viterra purchases 100 tonnes of pulses such as lentils, each year to donate to the Regina Food Bank and include in its hampers.
