Dabsbruh, it's literally just holding the joystick in a fixed position, doesn't get any easier than that :D
In serious talk, this is still a bit precise, you need to be as close as possible to the edge, hold up to go up the slope, then release the joystick once your speed gets low enough, then hold a speciffic joystick direction at the last possible frame before you start sliding off, then hold another joystick direction until you reach the top.
The stick positions that will work are the ones that have X component between ~-50 to -17, and depending of the one you hold you need to hold the second one a few units to the left, the larger the X component the more units to the left your second position has to be, and the slower it is.
For example, for -17 (the one used in the video), only -16 will work, and it takes ~1 minute, but for -31, you could use -30 or -29, and it takes ~2 minutes with -29, but with -30 it takes almost forever. Numbers much higher than -30 also take forever.

Huge thanks to Tyler Kehne (youtube.com/c/TylerKehne/featured) for coming up with the blj into squish cancel idea, without that idea, this time save would have never been possible.
-149f from the previous record made by plush and snark, by doing a blj on the elevator, then using it's buggy axle to squish cancel, allowing us to convert our negative speed to positive, which then allows us to do a huge jump to the final elevators.
This is also a 149 frame time save on the 1 key tas, which would put it's console time at 4:15.77, far past the funny time (4:20.69) But, if you still want to see a funny time tas, we can do it with a "bit" of time wasting so it has the right time youtu.be/1tPmXI0HJdo(TAS) Super Mario 64: Nice% in 4:20.69Dabs2021-05-04 | If you want to see the TAS without the slowdown at the start you can watch it here youtube.com/watch?v=w1n1uIJeuF8&t=66s&ab_channel=Skazzy3%27sRandomThoughtsSkazzy3%27sRandomThoughts
-2f from the old 1 key tas, which would place it's time as 4:20.69 if it was played on a console
By doing the new BitS blj, we are able to save time over the previous 1 key tas, but since it saved more time than was needed for the legendary 4:20.69, I had to do a tiny little bit of waiting at the start.

This doesn't save any A presses on 120 stars, however, the previous strat used extra tornados, but to spawn them you need to complete the pyramid star, which current takes an A press, that meant that this star wasn't very good for 70 stars since it added extra A presses even though it was 0.5x, but with this strat we don't need that, so we can use it in 70 without adding extra A presses, but it does add the routing challenge of being a terminating A press, which long term could be a problem.
The strat I used to get the last red coin is similar to pannenkoek's first 0x video of this star without extra tornados, which uses a pokey staircase to get one of the flying coins, but I use a holp in BOB that requires me to get a different coin with the staircase, and it reduces the amount of pokeys I need to clone from 6 to 3.BitFS with reds 2x - RTABCDabs2020-09-14 | Turns out it is possible to clone the red near the fire spitters, which saves another A press by not having to jump the pole another time This setup took a lot of work to find, and still requires us to wait 19 fire activations after grabbing the fake bob-omb, so it's not exactly the fastest, but it's good enough for me :P
Special thanks to BillyWAR (youtube.com/channel/UCBCqPFqPz2OUFOFdUZ9Bkyg) for helping me think of ideas(TAS) Getting past the slope in BitDW 0x without divegrinding*Dabs2020-08-13 | *at 0:09 it may look like I divegrinded after the pause buffered dr, but I actually started the slope dive on the ground then became airborn, then landed, then went airborn again to cancel it, but I have no idea if that counts as a divegrinding or not.
I made this to try to find a way to get past the slope that didn't use divegrinds to make it easier for RTA, but this is probably less viable then divegrinding anyway so it's kinda useless, but I though it looked cool.HOLP for 0x Scale the mountain - 0xDabs2020-07-07 | Notes: I used hacks to get hat in hand and clone a goomba once in ttm, since I didn't want to have to do it manually, also audio is a bit messed up in ttm idk why

To desync the TASes, I release a pokey clone on HOLP, which is different on each savestate
First star: HOLP is under the Klepto star, so I can bounce on it and grab the star (1:40) Second star: HOLP is near the red coins star, so I can bounce on it and grab the star (2:04) Third star: HOLP is near the pyramid star, so I can take knockback into the star (2:12) Fourth star: HOLP is in a place where it doesn't interact with mario in any way, this makes it the first one to enter the pyramid, and I desync the other ones based on the time they enter the pyramid (2:19) Fifth star: HOLP is a bit above the pyramid entrance, so I bounce on it and delay my entrance into the pyramid by a little bit (2:32) Sixth star: HOLP is floating above the entrance, so I take knockback while jumping to the pyramid, which gives me more delay when entering the pyramid (3:12)SM64 - upstairs% RTABC - 5x A, 44:12Dabs2020-04-28 | Emulator: Mupen64-rerecording Controller: keyboard

Also, I only included the audio from the last one (bottom-right) because I didn't want 6 marios talking at once. Global timer used: 43237 RNG used: 189
The strat I used works like this: first I collect the "Scale the Mountain" star since it messes the RNG, then I get my hat blown away, go to the teleporter and get some red coins on the way. By teleporting, I'm able to duplicate my hat, and by collecting both hats at the same time, I get the hat in hand glitch, which then allows me to grab a fake bob-omb and release a goomba clone on the HOLP. The HOLP differs from run to run, and it's what allows me to desync them. Specifically, on each run the HOLP is near the star that run is supposed to get. Then I jump near all stars in a way that if there is a goomba, I get that star, but if there isn't, then I don't get it and continue to the next star. On the last star, I don't need a goomba since I don't need to get any other stars after that and I can just end the TAS.
