Listening over the final versions of everything, I can’t help but feel like this is the culmination of every single hour of work I have put into developing my artistry and my craft throughout my adult life. While putting together this compilation, which is an exploration into my own feelings surrounding the Christmas season, the song Videotape by Radiohead kept coming to mind. It’s always been hard to put my finger on the emotions this song makes me feel. Bittersweet longing and nostalgia mixes with contentment, existential dread mixes with serenity. It mirrors the emotions the holiday season brings up for me. Christmas is something that many childhood memories are attached to. It has a way of summing up my life, like watching a montage of myself and those I’ve loved throughout the year. After sitting down on the piano to play it for the first time, I knew it was the perfect companion to this body of work.

Crywolf - 12.25.16 [untitled christmas song] (acoustic version)

Crywolf 2023-12-01 | Am I the only one who secretly hates Christmas music? It’s always felt like a bit of a spit in the face of the somber emotional palette this season has in my mind.

A while back a friend of mine heard me talking about it and they challenged me to write my own Christmas song. I gave it a shot and what came out was, in my opinion, one of the most straightforward and candid songs I’ve ever written. It doesn’t involve complex themes or abstract lyricism. It is just an honest exploration of the gut-wrenching feeling you have when you realize you have lost the place that your soul felt at peace.

I recorded this new stripped down version of it with just me and a felt piano for you guys. If you are another person for whom the holiday season is one of reflection on loss, I hope it comforts you and shows you you are not alone 🤍

This new documentary, surrounding the creation of the OBLIVIØN double album, chronicles my decent into depths I was previously unaware of. It’s my guidebook to the underworld. My love letter to the vast galaxies that exist beneath the iceberg surface of our conscious minds. A dive into parts of the ocean so deep that light never penetrates them. A world inhabited by the beasts we thought we banished from our minds.

This isn’t a happy story. This is a story of grief, of loss, of fire and fury. It’s the story of a boy who knew nothing, and something outside of him that pulled him into a shadowy place beyond good and evil to show him his darkness, his malice, his vastness, and ultimately, his real self.
