TimeSplitters 2 - Warzone Metal / Djent Cover || Arathrum

Hellooo and welcome (back) to another TimeSplitters 2 cover! I heard this one a while back and I immediatlely had tons of inspiration for it. I finished the arrangement of the song within 2 hours. But getting it as tight as it is and having all the sounds in the right place took me well over a week.

I decided to keep the song consistently fast and thrashy because it just fitted the tapping pattern of the melody. However, I also decided to add some djent this time. I'm a complete noob to the djent genre but I think I did pretty well on my first try. This probably won't be the last time I do something like this in my covers because it was super fun to do!

The editing in some parts of the video is fairly aggressive, because I wanted to experiment with a new style. Syncing the audio and video took me several days to get completely right. But it was definitely worth it.

Decided to return to the Goemon series once again. This soundtrack is so important to me that I don't mind being a slave to my inner perfectionist. What better franchise to return with than Zelda?! This one has been on my to-do list for years, not kidding. Really glad I finally got around to it. I've gone back to a somewhat older and darker style of mine. To match the feel of the original theme, I went as big and orchestral as possible, while still maintaining heavy punching rhythms. The second half I really wanted to explore the sinister vibes, so I strayed a bit more from the original than usual, but I feel it really fits the theme.

This cover has been requested by Nautilon! To be honest I wasn't sure if I were able to do something with it, but it didn't take long to decide on a style and start building from there. It's been a while since I've done a project with so many digital elements that it's actually more of a remix.

I've had tons of fun working on this video as the track is somewhere in between badass, funny and cheesy. Decided I'd help this track out a bit on the badass-part.

BattleToads Metal (NES) - Volkmire's Inferno Race Cover || Arathrum

Hey guys, I finally arrived at the last (but not least) cover of my BattleToads series! Volkmire was a pain in the ass both in the game, as with this cover. I spent more than 24 hours getting the mix right, which is WAY.... WAY too much. But what can I say, I'm a perfectionist.

Still not 100% happy with how it turned out, but at least it's at a level where I can actually share it with you guys.

So. I'll be releasing these covers as an EP as soon as I've figured out what to do with the artwork. For now I'll be working on some overdue requests, and I'm planning to release at 2 covers a month again.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's recent release for the Nintendo Switch my friends and I started playing the Wii U version again and I just couldn't help but make a cover of this awesome track! When it was nearly done it really felt like a shreddy solo was necessary. If only I could play that fast. So I asked one of my best friends to help out! Ever since this beautiful piece of music entered my ears I couldn't help but make a cover of it. Breath of the Wild is getting extremely positive reviews everywhere and I certainly get why. This has got to be one of the best games I've ever played. This game is so good, I don't want to finish it. Seriously. I have roughly 50 hours in the game and I've only done 2 divine beasts. I just don't want it to end. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

After some dark & gloomy metal I'm back in happy metal town! It's essential to switch it up every so often to get that creative energy going!

It didn't take long for me to rearrange this song but boy did it take me ages to make it sound right! It's been a while since I had this much trouble trying to get everything in all the right places in the mix. Probably because there's so many different things going on (if you listen to the original it's pretty messy as well). It's not exactly how I wanted it to be but after spending 4 days on just the mastering I figured it was time to let go. It's pretty good but I promise the official release will sound better!

Decided to add some Sonic & Knuckles themed effects to this video as well. Also, the second half of the song felt purple to me.

Hey guys! Thanks for checking out this special Halloween video!

This time I wanted to go a bit further than just dressing up, so I've decided to show you the fruits of my secret practice sessions! Finally reached the point where I can occassionally leave distorted guitars and create more dynamic covers!

It's roughly a year ago since I started playing the cello and flute. To be honest I haven't really been practicing them on a weekly basis but I've had a nice couple of intense sessions since then, which really increased my overall understanding.

I had so many ideas I wanted to put into this video but I had to tone them down a little bit to make sure there weren't too many things going on. Still really happy with the result though!

This song was requested by my brother, as a gift to his friend for his graduation! It's one of his favorite songs and he likes instrumental metal so it was perfect. I've had this one lying around for about a year but I wasn't really satisfied with it before. The mix was muddy and the song didn't pop like I wanted it to.

So I returned to this project to do it justice with some new djenty tones! Also had an awesome steel drum I wanted to put to good use!

I had tons of fun working on this project, as the composition is very different from traditional vgm stuff. Also, I can kinda get away with doing a movie cover since it's featured in Kingdom Hearts I & 2. But I decided to do the Disney version anyway because it's more fun. So there.

By the way, that's not nail polish. I dropped a 36 lbs dumbbell on it. It'll probably show up in all of my videos for several months. *sigh*

So I've played FFXIV Heavensward a while back but to be honest I never got up to the point where you actually get to hear this theme. From what I can tell it's pretty close to end-game and the theme really let's that shine through. I'm really glad that Rosenrot introduced me to this theme. If she hadn't, I'd probably never have covered this song so be sure to send some thanks her way!

This composition builds quite slowly compared to most of my other recent videos, but I made the second half a lot more intense to make up for that.

Also, I found out that I have the EXACT same choir plug-in as what they used to make the original song. Crazy huh?! So naturally I rebuilt the vocals in my cover in exactly the same manner. I didn't directly rip it, I swear ;)

Hey guys! Guess I had one more up my sleeve for this awesome soundtrack! It's so hard to go back to other games once you've had a true taste of the Megaman 2 soundtrack.

So the original Heat Man Stage track is nothing more than 2 riffs alternating the whole time. I actually didn't notice this until I was halfway into the making of this cover! That's when I decided to spice it up with a couple of extra drops of my special Arathrum Creativity Sauce Blend™ (patent pending). I ended up with another Killswitch Engage-y riff so I might have to tweak it a little bit.

It's been a while since I'd done a Pokemon cover but it sure was fun to return to this franchise once again! There's so many great vgm soundtracks out there that it's hard to stay in touch with all of them. Luckily I had Solitude suggest this theme to me and I immediately had the inspiration to make a cover out of it!

This theme is really energetic and imo the best battle theme of all Pokemon games. It wasn't very hard for me to preserve that energy in my cover because the source material was already awesome to begin with. It almost felt like cheating. However, I put in some pretty dark heavy breakdowns to offset the happy vibes and put some emphasis on the 'serious' part of being in a battle.

Also, I'm bringin' back the faces because why the hell not?! I've been so focussed on upping the quality of my shots and angles that I forgot to show what a weirdo I actually am.

Megaman 2 - Metal Man EDM Cover || Arathrum

Arathrum 2016-08-30 | Hell yeah it's time for some more Megaman metal!!

This track -among a few others- particularly stood out while listening to the whole soundtrack. I just had to make a cover of this one. Strangely enough, the 'Metal Man' theme was the least metal one of the whole soundtrack. It sounded more like an EDM track to me, but I tried to start this project as a full metal cover anyway. Didn't work. Or at least I didn't get it to work.

After a couple of tries to transform this theme into metal, I went back and ditched my metal drumkit to exchange it for an electronic one. Best decision I ever made! Everything immediately fell into place and the track suddenly regained it's former feel and catchiness!

It's been a while since I went with an electronic style in my covers, but it felt really good to go back there again after such a long time.

Hey there! Welcome to my first Megaman series cover ever! I know I'm not the first to start doing Megaman II covers and I probably won't be the last. The music from this game is so insanely awesome, I just had to give this one a go!

The first part of the song is pretty straightforward, but there's a twist halfway! Since there are so many versions already I had to came up with something unique. I went for a refreshing time signature and heavily layered guitars to try and create an epic feel. I think it turned out rather well! It was pretty tough to fit the melody over the weird time signature but with some calculations and a lot of trial and error it worked out just fine. In case you're wondering, the time signature is 3x 5/4 and 1x 6/4 or 21/4 (easier to put in DAWs like that).

It was awesome to finally set foot in the Megaman series and I expect to be doing a lot more of these in the future. Enjoy!

Super Mario 64 - Looping Steps Metal Cover || Arathrum

Hey guys! Welcome (back) to another one of my Super Mario 64 metal covers! I wanted to go back to this soundtrack once more and had the crazy idea of doing the Looping Steps theme, because why the hell not?! I've searched for other versions on Youtube but I might actually be the first to have made this theme into a metal cover.

The original loop itself is rather short and it felt like I'd be torturing you if I made a video of 3 minutes playing that frantic piece of chromatic chaos! So I got creative and conjured up a little song to glue everything together! It'll probably not come as a surprise to you that one of my biggest influences for this piece has been Killswitch Engage.

It was tons of fun to go finally go 'off-road' this time, since I always try to stay so close to the original. This time I simply couldn't, so that restriction pushed me to go further to make this work.

On a side note, I'm really glad with how this mix turned out! For the first time I truly feel everything is in the right place, with the right levels, clarity and loudness. Also I found some render settings that should make every video have better audio quality from now on.

Hey guys! Back again this week with some oldskool Super Mario 64 metal. I thought I'd revisit this game once again since it has a legendary soundtrack.

This time I chose to do File Select. It came to me at a fairly random time while riding the train. The song just popped into my head and I started drumming along with it. As soon as I got home I started working on it and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The loop is fairly short so I did my best to alter the styles and turn it into a fully fledged song! I even put a solo in there! :D

On a side note: I had 2 days to put this video together. It might not be edited as dynamically as you're used to lately.

Hey guys! So after a lot of experimenting with a lot of other games I decided to go back once again to one of the very first games I made metal covers for. I guess it's only natural since I kinda became the 'TimeSplitters 2 metal cover guy' right?

This track must've slipped past me because it's pretty obvious that this song can easily be made into metal. However, it wasn't until it was suggested to me that I truly heard it's metal potential and I started working on it right away!

The intro for this theme is quite long but I decided not to do anything crazy in there since it builds up nicely into the rest of the song. As in the original, I tried to keep the 'marching' vibe in my version, sustained with fat drums and heavy guitars, while keeping the melody somewhat more distant.

For the second section of this theme, I took a more open approach and experimented with a new style as I'd never done before. I also did some cool editing there so make sure you watch that part ;)!

Warcraft Movie - Warcraft Metal Cover || Arathrum

This metal cover has been suggested by my friend Jasper!

So this week I'm back with another experiment. I don't usually do movie covers but since this is a movie inspired by a game, I thought it still fits my channel!

This theme is extremely epic and I did my utmost best to do it justice. It has a very powerful build-up and everything is just so well composed. I guess you could expect that much from Game of Throne's composer!

For this cover I went back to my Dota 2 covers, since they bear a lot of resemblance, being heavily orchestral and such. It was really fun to come back to heavy dark symphonic stuff after so many happy videogame covers.

I went with a bit more cinematic color grading than usual to suit the feel of the theme.

As far as I know, this is the first metal cover created of this theme. Not that strange though, considering it isn't even in theaters yet!

Kirby's Dream Land - Gourmet Race Metal Cove || Arathrumr ➥ Suggested by Solitude!

So I've been experimenting a lot with different games lately and thought why not do another one? I first heard this theme in Smash Bros and to be honest I'd never thought of making a metal cover out of it, until Solitude suggested it to me.

This was hands down one of the trickier metal covers I've done so far, mainly because it clocks in at 190 bpm and has A LOT of triplets in the 'chorus'. I had to practice that melody for over an hour to get my picking technique up to speed. I'd say I definitely leveled up due to this cover.

I tried to stay close to the original by adding a 'wah' synth playing the exact same chords as in the original. It took me 2 hours to figure out the exact chords but it's worth it. Nothing bugs me more than not having all of the notes exactly right.

This cover contains a lot of different styles, be sure to check the whole video. There's death metal, thrash, black metal, groove, ska-ish vibes and neoclassical powermetal in there.

So after my April Fools run on this theme I decided to do a full cover of it. I was almost going to leave it at that horrendously crappy version but it didn't feel right to mess with you like that. So here it is!

During the making of this video I realized how much difference there is in styles of composers from different games. I thought that by now a theme like this would be a piece of cake for me. I was wrong.

The original composition is very light, minimalistic and dynamic. Unfortunately 'metal' and 'minimalistic' usually don't go well together. At least in my head. Especially when trying to interpret an orchestral composition. Getting the big wall of sound while still letting the light orchestral parts shine through was extremely tricky. But I'm really happy with how it turned out in the end.

Anyways, grab a baton, twirl it, and conjure up a storm! A happy one.

Aside from having an incredibly inconvenient name, this game stole my heart long long ago. Not just the soundtrack (which I actually listen to in my time off), but the game itself is also -in many ways- at least, if not more memorable than Super Mario 64. This game... The soundtrack, I don't know where to begin.

Aside from having incredibly clever basslines and interesting melodies, there are a lot of hidden instrumental parts somewhere in the composition to be found. Even though I've listened to the entire soundtrack for over a 100 times (not exaggerating!), there are still moments when I discover something new. And it blows my mind.

I am INCREDIBLY excited to share this cover with you, as I've kept my eye on it for a really long time! I didn't have the confidence (or bass skills) to do them yet. But after hours of hard work and practice, I think I managed to capture the funky essence of the original song, while still giving it a metal edge.

Back again with another HUGE project. I started tracking the audio for this medley back somewhere in february (!). A few weeks ago I noticed that something was off with my sound. Turns out I recorded the guitars at a too high volume so I had to rerecord the whole thing. Then this week I had to record and edit the video during 4 seperate days because there were just too many clips!! But here it is!

The 100 Acre Wood as a theme for metal might not seem like a very obvious choice for metal, and to be honest, it isn't. With a lot of hard work though, I'm really happy with how it turned out. As you can probably tell, I've also experimented a lot with camera angles on this one. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it!

Also, I went for EXTRA COLORIFICATIONIZINGNESS in this video to accompany the very lively and vivid composition of these jolly ol' themes.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I've heard this track (and I'm not exaggerating here) roughly a 150x already and I still don't hate it. Most of the time.

Yay I managed to upload a video in 2 consecutive weeks! I'm so proud of myself.

Anyway, Dr. Mario man! I never played the game but I know the soundtrack from Smash Bros. It just popped into my head as an awesome song to do during a random stroll through the park. It's really been a while since I'd done such a happy theme so it was about damn time.

Try to sing HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY as lyrics to the song. It fits most of the time. Sometimes it doesn't and you end on HAP. That kinda makes me sad.

Back on track with a brand new mix and style! I’m going to do some more covers of games that I hold close to my heart. Recently I’ve played the full KH1.5 and KH2.5 remixes, finishing the games for the second time, with the first one being the official PS2 release. It’s not that I’d forgotten how awesome the music of this game was, it’s just that I never got around to it. Until now!

Even though Kingdom Hearts has a HUGE and diverse OST, the themes itself are pretty short and loop quickly. So making a medley of the world themes was the best way to handle this and make an awesome non-repetitive cover. I have to tell you I enjoyed making this cover so much that I’ve already heard it over a 100 times now. And it still doesn’t get old. Also, expect more of these in the future.

Hey guys! I'm back with some more Donkey Kong Country stuff! I know this one is rather short but the build up is so climactic that it just feels wrong to do the whole thing twice.
