DFFOO JP - Zack vs. Snow Tank Comparison - pt.2 Zack
updated
Long video use the 2x speed function
With a bit of change in the opener, it is possible to return to Alisaie's old rotation before EX+.
Example:
if you want Holy
Fire - Stone - Thunder - HP+++ - EX - Holy
then pick up from there using the previous priority system
About this fight
Bosses switch between magical and physical mode. Magical mode significantly reduces any form of party BRV gain (either in form of BRV regens or batteries, any green numbers). While in Physical mode, the target All attack will most likely wipe the party without mitigation.
The trick here is to bait out the physical mode so batteries work again, and use Ami LD to delete their turns into oblivion.
Still playing around with Alisaie, but this team is functional and fun.
Otherwise a pretty standard Chaos fight
And no I'm not bothering with synergy challenge.
With her 2nd LB of EX+, alisaie starts with EX charged and both skills upgraded to the tier 2 version (Fire/Stone), along with other changes, I'm still in the process of figuring her out.
Screw. This. Fight.
The video makes it look easy, but this is possibly the most difficult FEOD to date.
The Eagle Gun in wave 1 can get a Zack-like BRV Barrier, on top of high DEF and a huge BRV gain.
The Guardian in wave 2 can render the team helpless with the morbol bad breath blind, followed by heavy BRV hits which you cannot shave cuz all your attacks missed.
The CPU... is borderline absurd...
The main node takes half HP damage until 1 node is dead
Its recast ability hits like a truck and will wipe the party if anyone is broken. Also when it charges up the recast ability, it will get 1 turn of absurd stat up, the only way to bypass which is a stun/terror
Finally you want to leave 1 node alive, because the main node will gain another huge stat up if both are dead.
It took me nearly 5 hours of attempts on my other account without delay/turn deletion before finally gettng it down, so here I just went with the team that outright ignored all the bullshit.
But the utility is really good between the slow/action delay up and straight up turn deletion.
Amidatlion has surprisingly good damage, at first I was skeptical because of the "gimmick tax", but she worked out fine.
LD weapons so far aren't feeling like direct powercreeps, which is nice. The powercreep will come with next anniversary though...
Amidatelion is pretty fun to use.
And no I'm not bothering with the synergy challenge
So it is just me rambling about things.
quick tl;dr
I don't think burst/LD are too necessary right now.
I don't like how new banners going forward will have less "time-relevant" characters since there will only be 1 LD per banner.
New tier coming Feburary, and I see it as 2 sides of a coin
- Banners from now til new tier is probably going to be less relevant in the new tier
- Characters from now til new tier will be relevant in chaos
Also I'm not going to bother too much with burst challenge
I will give my thoughts on the burst thing later
I wasn't really pulling for Squall burst, but getting auron ex without any other auron weapons gave me the incentive...
I will give my thoughts on full burst squall sometime later
I'm going off to learning some basic video editing to put together a wipe compilation.
Talking incoherently about backlog, Trey/Chaos, my recent pulls and updates, etc.
and yes, this is a click bait.
When Alexander's Recast Gauge fills, it will be immune to delay and gains a ton of BRV. If you don't break it in time, the following attack will cripple your team.
The catch is, by the third recast, it will gain 99999 BRV, and you have to break that 3 times to survive. And no Alex isn't so nice that he gives you extra turns to do that.
Essentially, this is a DPS race. Proper timing of EX skills is needed to generate that instant damage.
Or you can use a delay based team and not let Alex get a turn, as some has already done with Lightning and CoD solos.
Anyways, back to my farming cave.
This fight is really not geared for Seifer, all boss being immune to generic debuffs really limits his damage output, if it wasn't for Garnet's imperils.
Had several rather close calls in this, actually surprised I managed to record a full run without resets.
Anyways, FEOD done.
Elvoret (the thing with the spikey chin) - It will not activate its unique buff if pushed to below 80% HP before their first turn
Jeweled Turtles: Preferentially target the highest HP, though it doesn't always work.
"At some point, it becomes a lost cause trying to use earlier EX+ characters in recent content", but that doesn't mean I will stop trying.
Granted, I did use a bit of an OP team here, with MLB Aphmau synergy and Arciela just being an all-round good character.
Locke's damage output in this team is unfortunately not as high as I would like it to be, although, the boss is spamming a ton of target ALL so it is rather difficult for Locke to get the bonus damage.
His utility also paled a bit in comparison, the 20% Heal on Phoenix Ray isn't all that impressive next to what Aphmau and Arciela can do.
And he isn't the best to be used with Aphmau either, with the number of Framed Buffs there are.
But regardless, he worked, and I managed it without calling in a friend.
I hope character boards will do him good, giving increased healing and battery on Phoenix Ray will be a good start, and maybe the extra potencies will allow him to hit 9999s again.
This is actually one of the more difficult Chaos fight in recent memory.
Aside from the fact that using a tank with provoke means death (galuf is good tho), the adds have tons of health and hits quite hard. Attackers with splash damage is highly recommended here.
This fight is explicitly "anti-tank". if the boss gets provoked, it will switch its behaviour to spamming a 30k+ BRV gain into AoE HP attack non stop, which is basically death. (unless you have freya + strong healer)
totally didn't expect that
though I did end up spending 154 tickets total in hopes of getting garnet, no dice i suppose.
I will not be doing a showcase/MLBing Eald'narche just yet though, I'm not entirely convinced how well he can perform in practice.
I'm also at a point where I don't really need to be pulling/MLBing more characters to clear content, barring FEOD that is.
and also I'm hoarding ingots in preparation for the next tier, whatever that comes, unpractical as that might be.
so yea
(also new podcast episode soon^tm)
I was expecting the stacking slow debuff to be more prominent, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
Seven's damage output is... average.
Just average, for a single target focused character that is actively punished for going off target.
...Sigh, at least her longevity is decent with a fast EX that refunds skill 1.
I had to afk for a bit during the 8:30 mark so don't mind the weird stop there.
Alternate title: Gunbreaker Thancred when?
Some unstructured musing:
I went at this for hours before finally getting a clear. Y'shtola got stun locked for 2 turns back to back at one point. I was only able to get the win because Lyse actually dodged a lethal HP attack.
At some point, it becomes a lost cause trying to use earlier EX+ characters in recent content. The performance gap is just too much.
Especially in the case of Lyse, her EX+ is amoung the worst. She offers so little to the team that it becomes an active detriment to use her.
Perhaps, if I run something like, Snow/Aphmau/Lyse, I can pull through and get the turn count, but that defeats the purpose of using a FF14 team.
Ingot is a limited resource, and sometimes I just have to accept that the investment is suboptimal. That goes for Krile, Sephiroth, Sabin, Deuce, Seven, Firion, Lyse... The list goes.
So yea... I probably won't be attempting to use Lyse in future content anymore.
Wave 1: Guardian x2. Kraken mode has low action delay on break, morbol mode can inflict blind.
Wave 2: Shift Frame. Cannot be delayed while grounded. Inflicts some annoying debuffs from time to time. HP Silence while in air will stall it. Adds can inflict stun if luck is bad.
Recent characters can easily steamroll this, I fear for the next tier.
No character boards.
Total party buffs (in order of Rosa + Arciela + Aphmau)
ATK: 85% + 60% + 80% = 225%
mBRV: 60% + 50% + 50% = 160%
iBRV: 75% + 50% + 90% = 215%
and a ton of ibrv regen
Could've been easier if I maxed Yda instead of sticking with Tifa, but that's not the point.
Aphmau's total party buffs: 80% ATK, 50% mBRV, 90% iBRV, 50% DEF, 20% SPD, 50% BRV Damage Reduction, 100% Debuff Evasion, 100% iBRV Regen.
Her EX+ also gives a healing option, the only thing Aphmau can't do is provide overflow buff.
The buffs are good, but they take up 3 party buff slots which can limit what kind of team she can fit in if you want all of her utilities. Her own damage output is also just average without another buffer or 2.
This is the Chaos fight on Acr.2 Chapter.9 Hard Mode.
This is mainly a showcase of Alphinaud and Lenna with their respective character boards maxed as of the latest update.
Notable increases
Alphinaud
x1.3 damage modifier and +30% overflow for Energy Drain, making it his hardest hitting ST option.
10% ATK/mBRV buff, and additional 10% in obsidian, giving him 20% additional ATK/mBRV total
Lenna
Skill 1 can hit even harder now and has higher overflow (x1.3 modifier, +30% overflow)
HP+ is also improved to give 30% damage refund instead of 20%
Arciela is not boarded, frankly she is already overkill and benefits slightly less from boards.
Compared to feod 12, this chaos felt much tamer. Even though the bosses can go to lethal BRV and has a huge damage reduction, they also give you sufficient time to deal with them
This was quite a difficult FEOD stage, based on the gimmicks alone.
Argent Offciant and Weapon Keeper both require dispels, the Weapon Keepers also require heavy shaving, all the while with the White Qilin dishes out heavy HP damage.
And to top it all off, the fight is physical resist, so bring magic characters only (or bring enchanters)
Arciela is of course the prime pick for this, as she can handle Dispels, healing, and delays HP damage.
Vanille can also work, but she will only be able to handle dispel so you need a good tank/healer/damage dealer to go along with her.
Freeing up both Hope and Ace required me to adjust a few of my previous stages, I will need to go back and do some re-clears by the next feod... Not looking forward to that.
Alphinaud is quite an interesting character with his newly implemented EX+.
On paper, he isn't particularly strong outside his ATK/mBRV aura at 85% and 75% respectively, and having the option of extreme longevity given the free skill following his EX HP+.
He has a free turn party battery on skill 1, but it isn't particularly potent.
He has a party heal on skill 2, but it is only capped at 20% Max HP Heal.
He has good hit count/overflow/splash on his upgraded BRV/HP+s, but his potencies are left wanting.
Individually, these are kind of deal breakers. But taken together, it means that he can fit into quite a lot of roles depending on the fight and the kind of team used with him, and that's what I've done.
For this one, Alphinaud is the primary support/aura, since Faris is needed to deal with the dispel gimmick. However, since I'm running a tank as well, and the fight isn't particularly HP Damage heavy, Alphinaud does not need to be the healer too often and can again focus on doing more damage.

Here, Alphinaud is functioning as a secondary support/attacker/aura in conjunction with Lenna, while Zack is the all purpose tank. As Lenna is able to handle the healing, Alphinaud can choose the option of HP+/BRV+ for more damage, and his skills becomes more of a EX recast tool.
Needless to say both Zack and Lenna welcomes that extra 85% ATK aura, now only if he also comes with additional overflow for the party...

Anyways, for this fight in particular, we have
Rosa: 85% ATK, 60% mBRV, 75% iBRV
Arciela: 60% ATK, 50% mBRV, 50% iBRV (stance)
Alphinaud: 85% ATK, 75% mBRV, 10% iBRV
Total Aura: A lot.
I will be the first to admit that, even with a ton of ATK auras, Alphinaud's numbers aren't anything Jaw-dropping. But it can get the job done well enough, and other aura characters aren't just there sitting doing nothing either.

So, Porom LC. A ton of HP Damage here.
The main players are Shadow + Onion for their fire power, and Alphinaud is just here for aura and healing.
Notably, the 20% heal on energy drain is barely enough to keep the party alive, provided Shadow is actually dodging stuff. Being relegated in the healer role also means that Alphinaud is burning through his skill 2 quite a bit, which while there is a heal, deals less damage than his BRV/HP+s, so you actually have to make meaningful decisions.
His aura definitely helped Shadow/Onion make quick work of the fight though, I was quite surprised to be able to finish the fight comfortably without calling in a friend character.
He is very last bit as ridiculous as I expected, and more
Otherwise this is a safe and boring team featuring Lenna and Faris, and I played extra safe in terms of skill uses.
Anyways, here is the chaos fight, using 6 Framed Debuffs to block the bosses out of their own self framed buffs.
I may also talk about the mission dungeon format later, but the tldr is that I don't like it.
...and yea, If you somehow didn't get the memo from other videos already, Arciela is pretty good, if not borderline broken.
And it is not just because she is synergy for this event.
She has up to 6 practical uses of a 2 turn HP Attack Silence, which when used appropriately, can function as a stun, effectively preventing the enemy from taking any action.
She effectively enables a berserker team that forgoes tanking and healing, and focuses solely on bursting the boss down.
Her own damage output isn't too shabby either, both HP+s are good and ex recasts in one skill use.
A bit of miscalculation at the end and couldn't kill both at the same time
But Seifer's damage is very nice.
I haven't decided which Arciela to build to MLB...
Didn't get Prishe, but that is fine.
Uhh, let's just say if you take a short clip that is explicitly titled "meme" as my serious opinion, you probably shouldn't.
But anyways, here is Sephiroth in a fairer light, Fully boarded with relevant attack passives (im not wasting SP on useless summon passives), "perfect" artifact of ATK108&C50** x3, no spheres because I still don't consider them to be worth the trouble.
With all ATK passive activated, his octaslash did 6.8k per hit, and went from 24k BRV to 74k.
Is that good enough damage? I don't think so. Especially considering the fact that Sephiroth brings nothing else to the party.
Yes there is the Jenova slow debuff aura, but watch the video and tell me that it made a noticeable difference.
If we look at the other 2 "carry videos" I recorded, Lyse was able to provide extra battery and has constant splash, Krile had aura and extra battery.
Bottom line: Sephiroth isn't meme worthy terrible, but he isn't strong by any measures. Even when he was just released, Setzer was able to candidly outdamage him with skill2, on top of all the extra aura/battery/utility.
