Famitunes - Chiptune Covers
Mistuba no Musubime (TV Size) 8 Bit- Nagi No Asukara ED 2
updated
This is part 2 of today's uploads, check out the cover of the studio version here: youtu.be/miuGJYaJzwE
This cover was made using Famitracker, which is a free software bundle that allows you to make 8 bit music: http://famitracker.com
Original Song: Valentine by Wintergatan
I know it's not anime or game OST, but I love this song. I saw the Marble Machine video when it was first released, but never checked out Wintergatan's other music until earlier this year, and it's really good! I want to cover some of their other songs in the future too.
This is part 1 of 2 for uploads today, the other one is a cover of the live version of Valentine: youtu.be/TIvfn3TAAUw

I've decided to expand to cover game music in addition to anime songs, with the occasional unrelated cover when I feel like it. I've got a few more covers ready to upload over the next few weeks as well, so stay tuned for those.

Original Song: A Beautiful Song by Keiichi Okabe, vocals by Emi Evans, J'Nique Nicole
So I would have released this earlier, but I ran into issues with Famitracker's song limit - the maximum frames in a song is 128, and I managed to hit that, so I had to do a bit of fiddling with the tempo of the song to get the solo to fit! I also spent a while trying to get a good sound for the solo parts.
Next cover will the the 1000 subscriber special I mentioned last video :)

So... I know I said I wanted to get more covers done this year, so I have no idea why I took so long to publish this, it's been almost a month since the actual cover was completed... sorry!
In other news, thank you everyone for subscribing - the channel has reached 1000 subscribers! Considering how niche 8 bit covers of (mostly) anime songs is, that's quite an achievement! I've got an idea of something that I can do to celebrate already...
The next cover should be out fairly soon, as it's already half-done.

So last year I didn't release as many covers as I'd have liked to - only 8 compared to previous years. Hopefully this year I'm more productive. Let's kick 2019 off with this. This is something I've been meaning to cover since I first heard it. As for the show itself, I thought it started off quite well, but I wasn't enjoying it as much near the end.

So yeah, there's been a large gap between the last upload and this one. That was mainly down to me taking my time with another cover that I was unsatisfied with. In the end I swapped to this. Hopefully it lives up to the original!

Phew, this one took a while, been busy so haven't had the time to finish this earlier. I chose to do the film version of the theme because I think it's a bit more interesting - there are several key changes throughout the song.

Original Song: Gotta Catch 'Em All! written by John Seigler & John Loeffler, sung by Jason Paige
It's been quite a long time since the last cover - I've been very busy with final exams and assessments. But now I'm free!
Houseki no Kuni stands out for me as an example of well-done CGI. Unfortunately, I think the anime definitely lacks something in the later half- it doesn't feel like it's resolved. Praise to Phos' VA though, the same VA as Kumiko from Hibike! Euphonium.
I'm very pleased with how this cover turned out. I think I've managed to capture all the different elements of the song quite well. Musically, this song is really interesting, there's plenty of polyrhythms and there's some sneaky 7/4 time signatures in there.
I've also been looking at some of my older covers from when I started out, I'm thinking of re-covering some of those songs with the newer sounds as I've noticed errors in a few places, or I want to put more effort into them. Are there any of my old covers that you'd like to see redone?

Original Song: Kyoumen no Nami by YURIKA
I've actually had the start of this song done for a while, but wasn't too happy with how it sounded. With the new sounds for the drums though, I finally got round to redoing the cover and finishing it off. I think it turned out quite nicely.
I didn't realise Hiroyuki Sawano did the soundtrack for Re:Creators until I started watching it, at which point I recognised his style- he usually collaborates with certain vocalists, so if you hear them, it's likely he was involved in the music composition.
I still haven't finished watching Re:Creators. Nearly there though, just a few episodes left.

I got the idea for this while I was listening to A Cruel Angel's Thesis, where I noticed that the drum introduction to the main motif sounds almost exactly like the drums for Never Gonna Give You Up. And with my new drum sounds which mean I can finally create tom sounds, I thought it would be amusing :)
I am planning on doing a proper cover of A Cruel Angel's Thesis at some point- I'm currently stuck on what to do for the bit post-chorus.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My cover of A Cruel Angel's Thesis, the OP of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Enjoy!
I'm going to be honest, I couldn't get into Evangelion. But I don't think anyone can deny that the OP is amazing, so I finally got round to covering it!
Also, this is showing off the new drum sounds! I've finally worked out a way to emulate toms by combining a pitch down on the triangle channel with the noise channel.

Wait, what do you mean its's been 2 months since my last cover? No, don't be silly, it's not like I've been procrastinating...
Okay, seriously though, this cover should not have taken as long as it did. Unfortunately, between assessments, coursework and procrastination, it's been sitting half-finished for a while.

So for the first 8 bit cover of 2018, we have what is essentially a medley of the themes for each school. In order:
Kuromorimine - Panzerlied
Saunders - Battle Hymn of the Republic
Pravda - Katyusha
St Gloriana - The British Grenadiers
Anzio - Funiculi Funicula
Jatkosota - Säkkijärven polkka
Chihatan - Yuki no Shingun
Oorai - Sensha-dou Koushinkyoku! Panzer Vor!
You bet I'll be covering more Girls Und Panzer in the future!

Original Song: Gakuen Juu Shoku Desu! by Shiro Hamaguchi
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the game that made me buy a Switch- I knew I had to get one once it was announced. And I'm so glad I did.
The music in the Xenoblade Chronicles series has always been amazing to me. One of the stand-out moments in the original XC was when you first set foot on Gaur Plains, and the field theme kicks in. I also enjoyed X's eclectic mix of electronic music- though to be fair, that was partly because it was Hiroyuki Sawano!
Hopefully, this year I'll be able to release covers more often- I started in 2015 with 29 covers (and that was a half-year!), 14 in 2016 and just 10 last year.
Original Song: Where We Used To Be by Yatsunori Mitsuda
First of all, hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
I've not seen Inuyashiki, but oh man, that OP is amazing. Which is par for the course for Man with A Mission. This cover concludes my chiptune covers for this year, however, I am planning on getting a piano cover uploaded which I haven't had time to finish practicing/recording. Hopefully I'll be able to get it out within the next week or so.

So um... I was planning on getting this cover released last week, but I maaaaaay have been distracted with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Good news is that term has ended, so I'll have plenty of free time to hopefully get one more cover out before the end of the year.

Damn, this cover was really late... I procrastinated far too long on this, and for that I'm sorry. 2017 is coming to a close and I want to try to pick up the pace on my covers. Hopefully, I'll be able to get 2 more done before the end of the year, but it will probably end up being only one.

I recently had the opportunity to watch Kimi No Na Wa in the cinema again, and it was as good as the first time I saw it, and it inspired me to do this cover next. Unfortunately, between my industrial placement ending, the Kancolle event and World of Warships finally releasing British Battleships, I spent far too long sitting on this cover being half finished, sorry about that. Oh well, it's finished now, hope you like it!

Argh, this really should have been uploaded earlier- I would have done it Saturday but I was away over the weekend. Well, it's out now! I'm slowly catching up with Re:Creators, as I've not been watching many anime at all as of late. So my already large backlog has just been growing...
Expect to see more Re:Creators covers in the future- you can count on covers of AL;LU and Layers at the very least, and probably more eventually!
With my industrial placement ending, I'll be back at university, so I might have a bit more free time to be able to put out covers a bit more often than the previous year.

First of all, sorry for the delay between this cover and the last, despite what I said last time regarding the artwork. In my defence, I did have a 2 week holiday to Japan and Hong Kong so :)
I still actually need to finish watching Lostorage Incited WIXOSS- it kinda got put on the back burner halfway through it's season and I've never gotten round to finishing it.

So for this cover, I've been experimenting slightly with the sounds that I use. I went for a slightly 'harsher' tone for the guitar power chords, and started experimenting with using the DPCM channel for some of the drum sounds.
Sorry this cover took a while to get uploaded. Between exams, the Kancolle Spring Event and a lot of procrastination, I hadn't spent much time working on this as I'd have liked. I've decided to try out a slightly different way of doing the image- the older method, while more stylised, took a disproportionately long time to complete- the most recent images took longer to do than the actual cover XD. So I'm trying this way out as its MUCH quicker (resize image down, then resize back up with no interpolation) so hopefully I'll be able to get covers out more quickly in the future.

When I was watching the first episode of this, I didn't realise the OSt was done by Hiroyuki Sawano, but then I heard the music and knew straight away. Then, I looked into the ED and found out it was a collab between Aimer AND Chelly (from EGOIST) AND Hiroyuki Sawano! So of course I'm doing a cover of this!

About time I finished up this cover...I spent a while procrastinating which meant this cover didn't end up getting finished for a while. Well, that and Kancolle... Anyway, here is the first 8 bit cover of something from Kimi No Na Wa. Don't worry, I plan to cover some other songs from the OST in the future!

So I've actually been working on this cover since mid-November last year, and I was originally planning on uploading in December. However, my free time in the remainder of last year was occupied by the Kancolle Autumn event and World of Warships' Arpeggio event...so yeah sorry about that XD.
If you haven't seen Arpeggio of Blue Steel, I'd recommend it. It's a good example of CG being used correctly (if you didn't know, it's done entirely in CG) and the soundtrack is quite nice.

Anyway, this is the last upload of the year. Made a few mistakes but I'll live with it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Original Song: Mitsuha no Theme by RADWMPS
Apologies for the long wait between this video and the last. A combination of procrastination and being unsure of which song to cover next meant I spent the first few weeks not really doing anything. Oh well.
Anyway, here is Crow Song! It's about time I did a cover of one of GirlDeMo's songs I think, so I guess I'll start with this!

I had a bit more free time than normal, so I managed to get this cover out earlier than usual. I liked the first half of the anime, but I felt that it dipped in the second arc... well, at least the music was done by Hiroyuki Sawano, so that's a bonus! Plus, the OP was a collab between Aimer, EGOIST and Sawano, even better! And Aimer's ED is beautiful. Expect a cover of Ninelie sometime in the future!

Sorry i've been quiet since my last upload (nearly 2 months ago I think). I've been busy, plus I spent the first few weeks not being happy with what I had done with the cover. Eventually managed to sort it out though.
Anyway, this song is from the best filler episode ever, hands down. Coincidentally, I rewatched this episode last night XD.
