Kardec, a French educator, sought to bridge the gap between spirituality and science by codifying Spiritism—a system based on communication with spirits, reincarnation, and moral evolution. We examine his key works, including The Spirits' Book and The Mediums' Book, and discuss Spiritism’s influence on French intellectual circles and its rapid growth in Brazil, where it evolved into a major religious movement. Join me as we explore how Kardec’s Spiritism offers answers to profound existential questions, the nature of the spirit world, and the ethical framework it provides for understanding human suffering and inequality. The episode also touches on Spiritism’s connections to broader esoteric traditions and modern occult movements.

A History of the Occult LarvaAngelas Symposium2024-10-06 | In this episode, we dive deep into the fascinating origins and esoteric significance of the term larva. We begin by exploring its classical Latin meaning as a ghostly apparition or malevolent spirit, drawing from ancient Roman religious traditions. Discover how larvae were seen as dangerous spirits that disturbed the living, and how these concepts evolved over time.
As we trace the term through history, you'll see how larva came to represent not just ghosts, but also astral parasites in modern occultism, feeding off negative emotions and unresolved psychic energy. Learn how figures like Blavatsky, Crowley, and Bardon interpreted larvae as psychic parasites, and how the term has even found its way into modern biological terminology.
We'll also discuss the festival of Lemuria in Roman culture, where rituals were performed to exorcise these malevolent spirits, and the symbolic significance of masks in esoteric traditions.

In Gargantua, Rabelais introduces the Abbey of Thélème, a utopian society governed by the motto 'Fay ce que vouldras' ('Do what you will'). This principle would later inspire Crowley's central Thelemic tenet, 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.' Learn how Rabelais' Renaissance humanism, satire, and vision of personal freedom profoundly influenced Crowley's esoteric philosophy, bridging the gap between literature and occult spirituality.

It begins by distinguishing between the traditional Kabbalistic understanding of the Klippot and the reinterpreted Qliphoth in Hermetic Qabalah. We then delve into the historical emergence and theological significance of the Klippot in Kabbalah, particularly within the Zohar and Lurianic Kabbalah. The focus then shifts to integrating Qliphothic elements into modern occultism, especially within Left-Hand Path traditions. We examine the contributions of Aleister Crowley, Kenneth Grant, and Thomas Karlsson in redefining and expanding the understanding and application of Qliphothic magic. We highlight various practices, such as invocation, sigil magic, pathworking, and shadow work, that practitioners employ to engage with the Qliphoth for personal transformation and spiritual growth.

Bardon's seminal trilogy—"Initiation Into Hermetics" (1956), "The Practice of Magical Evocation" (1956), and "The Key to the True Quabbalah" (1957)—provides a comprehensive guide to his unique approach to Hermetic magic, which emphasizes self-mastery, elemental equilibrium, and spiritual transformation. The episode analyzes Bardon's step-by-step methodology for developing the practitioner's mental, astral, and physical faculties, as well as his innovative interpretation of the Hermetic principles of correspondence and analogy. It also examines Bardon's syncretic integration of Eastern and Western spiritual practices, such as yoga, alchemy, and Kabbalah, into a universal system adaptable to various esoteric paths.
NOTE: There is some confusion about the spelling of Kabbalah, Qabbalah, Cabala, Quabbalah and what they refer to. For the scope of this video, here are the meanings assigned to the various spellings: Kabbalah: Jewish mystical tradition focused on divine wisdom and Torah interpretation. Qabbalah: Occult and Hermetic versions integrated into Western esotericism, often used for magical purposes. Quabbalah: Practical magical tradition focusing on the use of sound and letters, associated with Franz Bardon. It has come to my attention that recent editions of "The True Key to Quabbalah" have changed the title to "The True Key to Kabbalah." I assume this change is for marketing purposes, but it contradicts Bardon's own use of the term in the German Language's first edition, "Die Schlüssel zur wahren Quabbalah."

This text provides deep insights into Gurdjieff’s understanding of spiritual progress and offers a unique perspective on self-identity within the context of self-spirituality and Western esotericism. Through the narrative, Gurdjieff presents a cosmological model known as the "Ray of Creation" and introduces the concept of the "Kundabuffer", a unique organ implanted in humans to distort their perception of reality. Furthermore, the episode explores how Gurdjieff's ideas on the necessity of conscious effort for spiritual development contrast starkly with modern passive existences, where individuals react automatically to external stimuli. His teachings emphasize the transformative potential of embracing rigorous self-examination and disciplined spiritual practices.

In the late 19th century, the Golden Dawn emerged as a beacon of the Western esoteric tradition, introducing what many considered novel magical practices. But a closer look reveals a different story. Today, we base our discussion on a critical examination of Alison Butler's influential thesis, positing that the Golden Dawn was a modern innovator using active visualization techniques and unmediated invocation methods. However, recent scholarship, particularly a study by Christopher A. Plaisance, challenges this view, suggesting these practices might not be as novel as once thought.

This approach diverges from traditional magic by grounding itself in naturalism and atheism, emphasizing human psychology and actions over supernatural forces.
In this episode, we'll discuss the core principles of LaVeyan magic, which includes using rituals as psychodrama to align one’s conscious and subconscious toward specific goals. LaVey advocated that all "magical" phenomena can be explained by natural laws, and central to his teaching is the belief that focused intent and willpower can shape personal and environmental outcomes without any supernatural intervention.
In practice, LaVeyan Satanism uses rituals involving symbolic actions that resonate with personal goals to influence the practitioner's psyche and behaviour, with the effectiveness of these rituals lying in their capacity to induce psychological change.
We'll delve deeper into how LaVeyan Satanism redefines traditional magical practices, emphasizing empirical and psychological approaches to achieving personal goals. ⚠️ Copyright of Dr Angela Puca, in all of its parts ⚠️Babalon explained: The Feminine Divine in ThelemaAngelas Symposium2024-07-07 | Let's delve deep into the mystical and symbolic world of Babalon, a central figure within Thelema, the spiritual philosophy developed by Aleister Crowley in the early 20th century. Babalon, often referred to as the Great Mother, the Sacred Wh*re, or the Liberatrix, embodies profound aspects of the divine feminine, sexual liberation, and spiritual transcendence.
We explore her multifaceted roles and meanings within Thelemic cosmology, where she complements cosmic entities such as Nuit, the sky goddess, and Hadit, the point of infinite possibilities. As a figure of both creation and destruction, Babalon's imagery is rich with symbols like the "Cup of Abominations," which she uses to transform base material into spiritual gold, epitomizing the alchemical process at the heart of personal and universal transformation.
Significantly, Babalon is pivotal in crossing the Abyss in Thelemic mysticism, where she acts as the guardian demanding the dissolution of the ego. This leads to the ultimate spiritual rebirth of the magician into a state of unity with all existence. Her role extends into the practice of s@xual magick, a key aspect of Thelemic practice, where she represents the potent power of s@xual energy in spiritual enlightenment and transformation.
Additionally, the episode covers the historical evolution of Babalon's imagery and significance through the 20th century, notably through figures like Jack Parsons and Kenneth Grant, who expanded her archetype in the contexts of their own magical practices and interpretations. Babalon's enduring legacy in contemporary Thelema, her influence on feminist and queer discourses within the occult community, and her depiction as a revolutionary figure against oppressive structures are also discussed, highlighting her relevance and adaptability in modern spiritual practices.
This episode illuminates Babalon's crucial role within Thelema and showcases her as a symbol of empowerment and spiritual depth, challenging conventional notions of femininity and spirituality.

Sufism, a mystical Islamic branch, pursues divine love and knowledge through direct experiences, contrasting orthodox Islamic practices. It originated in the 9th century, influencing global cultures through arts like Persian qawwali music and Turkish whirling dervishes. Neo-Sufism, evolving from traditional Sufism, emphasizes the essence of its mysticism, often independent of its Islamic roots. Introduced in the West early in the 20th century, Sufism adapted to Western cultures, distancing itself from traditional Islamic frameworks. Sufism's adaptability makes it a dynamic spiritual tradition. Due to its profound global integration and cultural influence, it could potentially be considered a new religion.

Steiner agreed with Theosophists that there is no inherent evil; rather, evil arises when something good is misapplied. Anthroposophy associates evil with two impulses - Luciferian and Ahrimanic. Ahriman, derived from Zoroastrianism, represents the forces of materialism and rigidity. When in excess, Ahrimanic influence leads to overemphasis on materialism. Lucifer represents imagination, creativity, and will. Excessive Luciferian influence results in egotism, wilfulness, and loss of reality. The Christ being stands between the two as a balancing, redeeming force for humanity. Follow for more academic fun with Dr Angela Puca, Religious Studies PhD.

Cagliostro, a figure shrouded in mystery and controversy, claimed esoteric knowledge and noble origins, quickly gaining notoriety across Europe as a healer and Freemason.
We explore Cagliostro's introduction of the Egyptian Rite in Naples in 1777, which marked a significant departure from traditional Freemasonry by integrating mystical practices and the concept of spiritual and moral transformation. His rites catered to both men and women, incorporating beliefs in theism and the immortality of the soul, and outlined a path for redemption through spiritual, intellectual, and physical restoration.
We also cover the specifics of Cagliostro’s Masonic rituals, which were designed to elevate practitioners through a series of stages: from spiritual reawakening and intellectual renewal, emphasizing alchemy and theurgy, to achieving a divine connection. These stages culminated in the mastery of esoteric arts, enabling initiates to perform significant theurgical acts.

Join us in exploring the left-hand path through academic and practitioner lenses in this detailed discussion with special guest Marco Visconti. In this episode, we delve into the intriguing world of emic and etic perspectives, comparing and contrasting the insider (emic) views held by practitioners with the outsider (etic) analyses conducted by scholars.
This dialogue bridges the gap between academic study and personal practice, highlighting the complexities and nuances that each perspective brings to understanding esoteric traditions. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner, a student of religious studies, or simply curious about alternative spiritual paths, this video promises to enrich your understanding of the Left-Hand Path and inspire deeper thought about the interplay between belief and scholarly interpretation.
ABOUT OUR GUEST
Marco Visconti is a lifelong practitioner of the Western Esoteric Tradition, with a particular interest in Thelema and Crowleyana.
Between 2014 and 2018, he worked at Treadwell’s Books, a hub of international expertise on Western esotericism in London. Prior to that, he was a music professional with an international career spanning over 15 years with bands such as XP8 and Faderhead.
He translated numerous key esoteric texts from English to Italian, such as Michael Bertiaux’s Lucky Hoodoo. In recent years, he organised the online community Magick Without Tears, teaching magick online to over 300 students—and counting.
His first book, The Aleister Crowley Manual: Thelemic Magick in Modern Times, has been a commercial and critical success and has been translated into Italian and Polish. He's currently working on his second book, in which he will explore the next steps in the Thelemic Current and unveil the mysteries of the Holy Guardian Angel and the Thoth Tarot.

Drawing from my extensive fieldwork in the anthropology of religion, I will explain how practitioners from diverse traditions optimise their rituals and spells to achieve desired outcomes.
We’ll answer key questions such as: * How does the path of least resistance manifest in magic? * Why do improbable outcomes require more energy? * How do practitioners break down complex goals into manageable steps? * What role do group rituals play in amplifying magical potency?
You'll learn how the path of least resistance manifests in magical contexts, allowing effects to occur with minimal opposition and energy expenditure. We'll explore how this principle is analogous to natural sciences, guiding practitioners to align their will with the most accessible and receptive pathways. Additionally, I'll introduce the principle of proportional energy, which posits that the more unlikely an event, the greater the energy required to bring it about.
This principle explains why certain outcomes, like winning the lottery, are deemed nearly impossible to achieve through magic. Through real-world examples and field observations, we'll see how practitioners break down complex goals into manageable steps and utilise group rituals to amplify their efforts. These strategies not only enhance the potency of their magic but also reflect a pragmatic, adaptive approach to navigating the dynamics of resistance and possibility.

We examine these statements, each presenting a bold contrast to traditional Christian values, and discuss their implications on moral and philosophical grounds.
We will dissect the significance of indulgence over abstinence, the preference for vital existence rather than spiritual aspirations, and the emphasis on seeking undefiled wisdom over self-deceit. The episode will also analyse the controversial standpoints on kindness, vengeance, and responsibility, all pivoting away from conventional religious teachings.
Key questions addressed in this episode include: What does LaVeyan Satanism say about human nature and the concept of sin? How does it redefine notions of kindness and justice? What commentary does it offer on human superiority and the role of Satan in Christian theology?
