ORLANDO JONES Interview: AMERICAN GODS, MAD TV, and the future of Indie Films! Reel School 2023-08-05 | ORLANDO JONES is a performer who has seen many different sides of Hollywood. He sits down for an interview to discuss breaking ground on MADTV in the 90s, the struggles he had on AMERICAN GODS, and his new independent film TIL DEATH DO US PART. *Please note: This interview was conducted in ordinance with SAG-AFTRA's strike action. 'Til Death Do Us Part' is both a non-AMPTP project and distributor.Orlando Jones, arguably best known for his scene-stealing role as Mr Nancy in the first two seasons of STARZ's "American Gods", has worked his way through the system, predominately in television. A tenured member of the WGA, he began his career as a writer, writing for the breakthrough comedy "A Different World" as part of the must-see-TV line up on the late 80s and 90s. Continuing to break ground, he joined the initial cast of Fox's "Mad TV", which continued to push the boundaries of inclusion and comedy. This lead to Jones co-starring with David Duchovny in Ivan Reitman's "Evolution" in what would be one of the Jones' largest roles to date. In his later roles, Jones has taken a darker path, costarring in "Sleepy Hollow", and eventually in "American Gods". He now comes to TIL DEATH DO US PART, a independent thriller which follows the dark story of a honeymoon night gone wrong. After bailing on her wedding, a former bride-to-be must fight off her ex-groom and seven angry killer groomsmen in order to survive the night, in this hilarious mix of action, gore and comedy. TIL DEATH DO US PART stars Cam Gigandet, Jason Patric, Natalie Burn, Ser'Darius Blain and Pancho Moler. The film is directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. Jones plays "Groomsman 4", one of the members of the University, a fraternity of assassins. As part of the wedding party, he is among the first on the scene to try and capture the reluctant bride. That's obviously when chaos ensues. When a group of in-transit prisoners and their guards get caught in a massive hurricane in Louisiana, a horde of giant hungry alligators are unleashed on the group as the prison begins to flood. It stars Nicky Whelan, Louis Mandylor, Randy Wayne, Devanny Pinn, Ryan Francise, Eoin O'Brien and Mike Ferguson. The film is directed by Brandon Slagle. Van Dien plays convict Russell Cody, a stoic man with a mysterious past. Part of the jailbreak which kicks off the chaos of the film was because of Cody's ex-partner in crime, Rafe Calderon (Mandylor) coming to bust Cody out. As the night goes on and people start dying one-by-one it becomes a tense game of who can be trusted, and who can keep everyone alive. Anderson, the filmmaker who helmed MORTAL KOMBAT, SOLDIER, and the RESIDENT EVIL films, sits down for an interview to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cult classic EVENT HORIZON.Anderson is known for his American debut, Mortal Kombat (1995), the film based on the fighting videogame which eventually became a hit worldwide, despite the critic's poor reviews, and launched Anderson into the spotlight.Lightening didn't strike twice, however, as his next sci-fi film, Event Horizon (1997) flopped at the box office. He tried again with Solider (1998) but once again fell short. Starting off the new millennium, Anderson went the deeper into videogame-turned-film genre and directed Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil (2002), followed by Alien Vs. Predator (2004). Again, at best, his films received mixed reviews, but he and Jovovich returned to the Resident Evil franchise three more times, directing Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017). In between the sci-fi/fantasy films, he also directed the epic Pompeii (2014), which once again, received poor reviews. Reel School 2022-05-09 | With the release of the Doctor Strange and the expansion of the #MultiverseofMadness, it's time to look at one of the greatest MCU characters, and the subtext behind the history of the Scarlet Witch. The reason Wanda has become one of the best written characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic universe is because her tragic backstory is based in real world historical context.While she's been a villain and a hero in Marvel Comics for almost 60 years, her MCU story was modernized to represent the struggles of a lot of Eastern European people. Her home country, Sokovia has been one of the epicentres of the MCU, and Wanda, her brother Pietro, even Baron Zemo have beautifully written and performed movie versions because of how their MCU versions reflect those from war-torn areas in Eastern Europe. I take a look at the #HistoryofScarletWitch and connect the subtext of her transformation from villain to her to villain again by studying real life events. Her journey from Sokovia, to Westview, from Age of Ultron to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is arguably one of the most tragic, because despite it's comic book inspiration, it's a very REAL story.
