Carnival Night Zone: Act 2 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Nov. 1993 Proto) [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2020-01-04 | With the release of the Nov. 1993 Proto for Sonic 3, the biggest surprise for me was the fact that the Sonic & Knuckles Collection versions of the tracks for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base were indeed the original ones. I never really liked the S&KC versions, but the original Genesis versions are much more my thing (except for Ice Cap but whatever). So i figured i'd cover what's probably my favorite of the Proto tracks: this one.I started this last year (haha) and only now got around to finishing it, but i'm really glad with how it turned out. Sandopolis Zone Act 1 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-12-10 | So working on this one was quite a different experience compared to the other S3 covers i've done, but not in a bad way. Chrome Gadget Zone - Sonic 3 & Knuckles [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-11-29 | I've tried to cover this song around 4 or 5 times and even finished one version, a very bad VRC6 version that thankfully predates this one by a year or more. This was one of the first songs i covered in FamiTracker, and for whatever reason, i haven't been able to do better since...until now, obviously. Sonic 3's entire OST is a joy to cover: it seems to fit so perfectly with the 2A03+VRC6 limitation i typically set for myself. Data Select - Sonic 3 & Knuckles [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-11-24 | This was really fun to cover, something i didn't expect when i started. Sonic 3 has a lot of songs that are great but don't seem fun to cover, yet obviously this is an exception. I went all-out with the samples and tried to do as much as i could within the restrictions, and i think it turned out well.However, NSFPlay didn't seem to like all the Gxx commands i used for the "steel drum" so i had to use 0CC-FamiTracker's built-in "Export WAV" function to export the song, which meant doing a fade-out would be annoying. Instead, i simply added an extra ending measure and i think that works well enough. No idea why NSFPlay was having a fit.Original MIDI by Monster Iestyn.
Rude Buster - DELTARUNE: Chapter 1 [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-10-25 | This has been sitting on my computer for too long and i've really wanted to finish it but never got around to it. However, i've been on a motivational kick recently so here it is. Toby Fox never fails to impress me with his talents.Funnily enough, today's actually been one year since i uploaded my first DeltaRune cover, that being Card Castle. Iron Blue Intention - Castlevania: Bloodlines [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-10-25 | Hey, i uploaded another thing this week! This one's been a long time coming, considering its one of Castlevania's most beloved songs and one of the best from Bloodlines.I'm still not entirely on-board with Yamane's instrument choices within the soundtrack but the compositions are still excellent. All it takes is some extra work to fill another sound channel and Bloodlines' OST translates really well to FamiTracker. Balcony - Cave Story [FDS] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-09-17 | This one's been sitting on my PC for a few days, and i was off and on about uploading it. However, i showed it to a friend and they really liked it so i decided screw it. And here it is. What a program.Anyway, f you haven't already, i highly suggest you listen to the music tracks from Sonic 3&K's multiplayer zones. It's a shame such awesome tunes weren't front and center in the main campaign, but the fact they exist at all is pretty rad. So i decided to cover one. In The Final - Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story [VRC6] Mackenzie E.V. 2019-09-01 | Well here's another old cover turned new. Took a while...i've worked on this project and put it down many times, but i finally finished it and im proud of it. I find it kind of amazing that it was possible to squeeze six N163 channels into the mere three channels the VRC6 provides, but i did it. There's also a shitload of experimentation here, mostly using the triangle channel for something other than bass.
