Badlands ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-07-09 | After the uncontrolable decable that was Super Sprint and Championship Sprint, the last thing anyone (in particular I) needed was a third Sprint game....and what do you know....there is a Sprint III....called Badlands....and obviously it's similar to Sprint 1 and Sprint 2....actually it's rather different. Here, instead of a Formula One theme we have an underground racing theme where you can shoot you rivals as well. And the best part of all is it's actually a lot easier to control and it's a lot more fun...so hoorays all round!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-10-17 | Hello folks, I'm still alive!Sorry I've not been active lately, I have had another mental relapse which forced me to go into psychology tests. During these tests I have learned that I suffer from multiple symptons of Autism which took me by suprise but it's a welcome relief and a huge weight off my shoulders, now that I have seemingly gotten to the bottom of my issues. Tests are still on going and it'll take some time but I've already reached the point of acceptance with my life. I am who I am and no-one can take that away from me.In better news, I'm getting married next week, and I cannot feel more fortunate in life to have someone who understands me and my issues and is willing to give her time to support me. Without her, these tests and this diagnosis would not have been possible. I am forever grateful.I want say a big thank you to YOU! For making the channel worthwhile and for providing me with the inspiration to develop it into what it is today. To those who commented on my videos, shared them on Google +, those who I've gotten to know over the years and shared memories with, you are a big part of what is here. Street Hawk (1986) ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-08-18 | And now as promised...it's not just Street Hawk again, but THE Street Hawk! Yes THE Street Hawk we waited months and months and many more months for....and well it wasn't worth the wait frankly. All that time developing such a game and it plays like a sluggish turd...so much so I actually prefer the rushed version, only because it plays slightly better...like half a percentage better.Poor Street Hawk, its video game history is as much a debacle as ET and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lest we forget Street Hawk....or alright, do!
Street Hawk (1985) ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-08-13 | Stepping away from arcade ports here's an interesting situation for you...well for me realistically....two games of the same name....a game released twice. Yes Street Hawk was a game that took bloody ages to develop...so much so catalogue orders were never going to be met....so this came instead, a Defender-style shooter which was rushed in order for those orders to be fulfilled....and the results show....in a negative fashion. Don't even waste your time looking it up on World of Sham.THE Street Hawk we all waited for FINALLY surfaced a year later, which shall come in the next upload...you lucky people.
Double Dragon 3 ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-07-30 | Now this game takes me back, why is this? Because approximately four years ago I began doing gameplay videos on my music channel Otouto72 and THIS was the very first gameplay I ever done. Now it makes its appearance here.....finally....took me 495 videos to do it.Anyways, many will remember Double Dragon III as the worst of the arcade series, mainly because you had to purchase upgrades using real money....and this is how In-App Purchases was born. However, the Spectrum version is streets ahead of 1 and 2, making this the best of the series. While it's still lacking behind greatness it's far more playable than 1 and 2 combined. So for once we (or rather I) say thank heavens for threequels.
Double Dragon II ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-07-23 | I know I know my production here has been slow lately, but at least I'm more active than World of Spectrum....there, read into that whatever way you will. Anyways, after the sheer disappointment of Double Dragon we were left fearing the inevitable, and yes that day came to pass, the day when a bloody sequel came out. So yes this is Double Dragon II: The Revenge...the revenge of what exactly? Those who hated the original or those who made the original one of the worst arcade conversions known to mankind. Who knows, and frankly who cares.The very first thing you'll notice is title music, missing from Double Dragon 1. Then you'll notice the game is faster than Double Dragon 1, perhaps too fast for my liking but still it's a significant improvement. Then you'll notice the gameplay...while a little better than Double Dragon 1 is still a bit awkward in that it's quite tricky to hit the enemies while they can hit you almost spot on and thus your energy depletes quite quickly. As for graphically, again it's better than Double Dragon 1, with better looking sprites and some pretty detail.So yes much better than the original but sadly still falls short of greatness. Not pitiful by any means though.Oh and there's a slight editing cock up here from me, forgive me I'm rusty.

Here we look at Super Sprint, one I had as a kid many years ago, and just like the arcade version controlling the car is a challenge in itself, perhaps more so in this version...now that's an accomplishment in itself.
Super Soccer ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-06-12 | Can you believe it?....It's World Cup time once again! And because I was eager, impatient and desperate to clear some hard drive space on my laptop....I uploaded all my World Cup videos last year so go me! BUT I did forget about one soccer game that I discovered in a lost-and-found memory stick, and I believe this may be THE worst soccer game in the very existence of video games, ever. For I present Super Soccer by Imagine Ocean, and you know the trend by now (if you've been following along at home, which you probably weren't), nine times out of ten if it has "super" in its title it's shit....and boy this is no exception, so all together now....Super This Ain't....and in fact Soccer This Ain't either.For what this is the the equivalent of babies trying to play football...in that the "players" can hardly run...or walk for that matter, possession is non-existant, shooting is a tedious chore and your goalies are absolute useless...people including me ranted about World Cup Carnival but at least you can score a goal there...where as here you are lucky to even kick the bloody ball! Imagine England playing like this....oh wait...So wave that flag with pride, sing you favourite anthem as loud as you can and get yourself the Beckham haircut for old times' sake and....well prepared to be disappointed....thankfully this level of dismay and disappointment doesn't happen in real life eh?.....oh wait.....it does.....ho hum....here's to four years time then chaps!
SWIV ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-06-10 | Time for another "bonus" video thrown into the arcade mix...SWIV is the sequel to Silkworm and it's really impressive and quite tough as the same time, it's really good...I'm starting to really like The Sales Curve. And look, there's music from that nice chap Sound Images once more.
Silkworm ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-06-07 | And here's another Tecmo arcade game ported to the Spectrum, this time Silkworm! Now normally you control either a jeep or a helicopter...but in this game I control BOTH! Hmmm is that cheating?....well......tough!
Rygar ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-06-05 | Blimey another US Gold arcade conversion...this time it's Tecmo's Rygar converted by Probe Software...and it's a nice little game. While the graphics aren't great it's really playable, I honestly wasn't expecting much from this and ended up really getting into it. Looks like tripe, plays like a charm....although I suspect better ports exist.
Express Raider ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-06-03 | Oh dear, it's another US Gold arcade conversion, only this time Tiertex have nothing to do with it, for instead it was developed by Homega Software from Hungary. And it's rather good, some of the attacks don't work well which reduced me to spam the flying kick and all but it's still rather good, a darn good attempt I say.....much better than Street Fighter and that other thing, the Human, Killing....thingy gubbins....whatever. Hooray for Hungary!
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-05-31 | Conversion of the Atari arcade game....converted by Paragon who later became our favourite development team Tiertex. Never liked this game and after about 23 years I still don't...saying that though it's nowhere near the worst arcade conversion, nor is it Tiertex...sorry Paragon's worst game AND Indy had two sequels which were even worse...worse in that I never got into them....Indy had Arnie's luck then by the look of it...ah well.
Human Killing Machine ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-05-10 | Remember the original Street Fighter? Of course you don't because nobody else does...well before the sequel of all sequels that changed the face of fighting games forever there was a sister game to Street Fighter, in otherwords it was recycled by Tiertex into a new game called Human Killing Machine, which is pretty much the same as Street Fighter only more rubbish, there's the same moves, no scrolling, a weird selection of enemies including a dog and I believe you fight a bull as well! How bizarre indeed! Way to fucking go Tiertex....again!
Street Fighter - ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-05-05 | Yes Street Fighter on the ZX Spectrum and let's face it it's not great really, well it is by Tiertex after all. The graphics aren't bad but its colour rather makes this hard on the eyes...okay MY eyes happy now? Also the gameplay is a bit crooked, the special moves are almost impossible to do here...making me wonder if they are actually included. I like the original Street Fighter but this port does it no justice whatsoever. Way to fucking go Tiertex!
Darius+ ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-04-17 | Well here's something you thought you'd never see...yes that's right it's Taito's shmup Darius ported to the ZX Spectrum by The Edge....no not the U2 guitarist before you say anything. Anyways it's not bad really, could have been worse, could have been better, but there are in fact far better shmup out there on the Spectrum...and for the record far better arcade conversions on the Spectrum. Still a brave effort nonetheless.
Elevator Action ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-03-29 | Now here's something we haven't seen in quite a while...nope I'm lying again it's another arcade conversion yippee ki yay! Elevator Action is an arcade game I never got into, I played it so many times after discovering it on the Taito Legends compilation on the PS2 (funny me mentioning the PS2 on a Speccy channel but there you go) and no matter how many times I tried it I never got into it. Then one day out of complete boredom and depression I finally decided to give the Speccy version a wee run...and you know what it's really good! The overall game is the same but much more enjoyable, and the music from David Whittaker is brilliant, so much better than the arcade tune. So yes Elevator Action on the Spectrum....I really like it, there's a surprise for you....well for me rather...oh sod it leave me alone...unless you want my germs!
Klax ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-03-20 | Oh look, Domark are trying again with another arcade port and this time it's the classic Atari puzzle game Klax....and you'll never guess what....it's fantastic! It's just as fun as the arcade original, complete with sampled speech and sound straight from it! Very impressive! Well done Domark...and to Teque too for that matter...a fine job gentlemen!
Xybots ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-03-14 | This is a conversion of the Atari arcade game....by Domark...and being a Domark game you'd expect this to be a load of piss....but you would be wrong, for this is actually a pretty nice and fairly accurate conversion, looks alright, plays alright, sounds alright, not too bad at all actually. So yes, well done Domark...never thought I'd be saying that!
Sly Spy ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-03-06 | I never really played this in the arcades to be honest so I was a bit skeptical playing this one not knowing what to expect, but it's really good, very nice graphics and great music from Geoff Follin (yes that'll be Tim's brother), so yes thumbs up for Sly Spy...oh and look at who, or what, makes a triumphant return....gives you a hint as to when this was recorded then doesn't it?
Psycho Pig U.X.B. ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-03-01 | And here's another Jaleco arcade conversion....this time we look at Butasan which was renamed Psycho Pig U.X.B. for the 8-bit ports. The idea is that you control a pig to throw bombs at other pigs, simple, sinister and good fun.
P-47 Thunderbolt ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-24 | Here's a port of a Jaleco arcade game....oh wait so was the last video....anyway this is an arcade shmup, and what can you say about it? Oh I know! It's a shmup! Looks like a shmup, plays like a shmup, sounds like a shmup, feels like a shmup, it's a shmup, you're either into these or your not, you'll like it or you won't. What else?......oh yeah it's a shmup.
Cisco Heat ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-19 | Naft conversion of what I feel was a pretty naft arcade racing game to begin with. Well the main reason it's so bad is that this was written by the same people who unleashed the awful Chase HQ II and this isn't much better, rubbish controls, poor gameplay and terrible music makes Cisco Heat a right mug of a game. I guess then this is prove Smash TV, whilst not a great conversion it wasn't an awful conversion, especially compared to this, in the trash you go.
Smash TV ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-14 | Good luck....you'll need it!Yes Williams' other hit arcade game Smash TV hits the ZX Spectrum....so how does it do??? I'm mixed. This was written by the same blokes that done Teenage Mutant (Hero) Ninja Turtles among others so it has the same graphics features as that, this I don't think works out so well for Smash TV. It's also a bit clumsy gameplay wise compared to NARC. It's nice but I do prefer NARC admittedly. But some of you will think differently so feel free to disagree in the comments if that's the case. Oh and hear that music? That's the same bloke that done NARC too, yes Sound Images is one bloke.
NARC ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-11 | One of the most visually impressive and blatantly violent arcade games gets the rugged ZX Spectrum treatment, and while it lacks the obvious features it's actually good fun, obviously not the Spectrum's best arcade conversion but to be truthful this could have been a lot worse...and there are a lot worse games still to come in this "feature". On a pointless side note, I had this back in the day and it never worked...well it loaded to the main menu but level 1 never loaded...man I sulked.
Pac-Land ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-05 | So over the next few weeks I'll be uploading some more arcade ports which begun with R-Type previously, as well as any other relevant videos to go with them, you'll see what I mean in due course. But today we visit a old favourite, it's Pac-Land!!......don't have your hopes built up though, because it looks hideous! The graphics are really ugly here and the gameplay lacks the fluency and the scrolling compared to the arcade original. Where as Pac-Mania had the same charm as the arcade original, this doesn't. Nice loading screen...that's about it....and thus Pac-Land won't be a holiday destination I'll be returning to in future....sulking now.
R-Type ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2014-02-01 | HAPPY NEW YEAR!.....32 days later! At last after a technical hitch but an enjoyable hiatus Spectrum Nostalgia returns, and I kick off the year in style...I think, with the legendary R-Type on the ZX Spectrum! Yeah it's inferior I know I know...but you do get some lovely graphics and you get pulsating shmup action and you do get the same brick hard difficulty from the arcade...I know the tune lasted 3 seconds but you can't have everything on a Spectrum it would burn the Z80 to the very core!Saying that for Spectrum standards this is a real treat! It exceeds everything! Who knew the Spectrum was capable of such graphics!
Santa ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-12-22 | And now for the final video of the festive period and indeed my final video of 2013.....it's one of the worst games on the face of the universe! It's Santa! In this you get six games in one cassette and none of them are very redeeming, it feels like a bad Christmas present, it feels like it's an insult, it feels like this game was designed not to celebrate the festive joys of Christmas but to literally take the piss...in fact if there's ever anything in the world that will permanently put you off Christmas forever....this might well be that very thing. So from now on when you get a hideous jumper, or even a lump of coal, please be sure to say thank you and think it could be a lot worse...like having this game in your Christmas stocking! Oh shut up you Welsh git you're getting on my nerves....oh wait it wasn't him...oh well, anyways here's a real treat for you...The Snowman! Technically has nothing to do with Christmas but sure they show this every Christmas don't they, except if you're not British that is...and as a matter of fact I shall be uploading this video at every Christmas going forward....sigh. Now the main objective to this game is....well you build a snowman, bet you didn't see that one coming eh? First find the snow parts and then you dress him, sounds like good fun...well take it from me, OF COURSE IT BLOODY ISN'T!!...oh all right I'm being a meany scrooge, this is actually pretty good, was well reviewed during its time and it won't take long to discover why.
Special Delivery ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-12-09 | It's almost bloody Christmas again isn't it! So that means it's time for Christmas videos and unlike last year where I upload one "hymn", this year I am uploading Christmas themed games, yes I know it's early but you have your Christmas tree up don't you? You're hearing Christmas songs right? So there, it's Christmas then so I'm uploading Christmas videos, just to further add to the misery of it all! First up, it's Special Delivery, no not a Postman Pat clone or a game about giving birth, it's you as Santa delivering presents for the smiley children...what can go wrong? Well, 1. The presents fall from angels in the sky, 2. Clouds STEAL presents from you! 3. Fire shoots up your arse! And 4. The doors are automatic and one touch of these leads to instant death...yip it's one of those ones. Still it's better than the tripe I uploaded last year...better I use loosely by the way. More to come....bah humbug!
Kendo Warrior ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-11-08 | Here's a game I had when I was a lad....and a pretty good one too. Here you play a Kendo Warrior called Kendo, a bit like Mario Mario in a sense, and you are on a mission to retrieve secret documents which have been stolen in which other warriors...and dogs...are in your way and you must fight your way through them. The game also has a puzzle element to it in that particle beams can only be passed if you obtain shields of the same colour and items can be collected to help your progression. It also acts like a maze or labyrinth type game...in that you are constantly getting lost with directions. So essentially it's three games in one -- that's not bad innit?
The Evil Dead ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-10-31 | It's Halloween again! And this year I have an absolute treat...in that it's a licensed game from a horror movie and it's utter shite! Yep it's The Evil Dead! Now the funniest thing about this game is it was never released on its own but rather on the B-Side of Cauldron...and you are about to witness why! There are no instructions at all in this game but apparently what you see is what you get, you go around endlessly and needlessly around the house picking up items and killing things with them...or be killed yourself...all this until apparently the Book of the Evil Dead appears when you've scored enough points, throw that book into the fire and the game is finished....mind you when that book appears...or if I should say, is anyone's guess.
Albatrossity ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-10-16 | Initially brought to my attention by Mat Howlett, this is another cracking game from Mr. Egghead Jonathan Cauldwell....it's a mini-golf game with a difference! This type of game would be perfect on your mobile phone! After three practice attempts and one failed recording (mucked on badly on hole 5), this was my 5th gameplay (and 2nd attempt at recording) and yes I admit I was a jammy bastard at times. I highly recommend this game, this is great fun!
Space Zombies ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-09-27 | No it's not Space Invaders replaced by zombies, it's a Galaxian-like game where you just shoot different types of baddies that circle around you....simple as that really, it's the sort of game that would keep me mildly amused for at least 10 minutes before I'm bored stiff...and then I never play it again for a while...oh well.
Tridex ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-09-18 | It's another Space Invaders clone!!......oh wait the game was lying, naughty! No it is in fact another shooter that draws comparisons to Hewson's Eliminator only with an even worse colour scheme that will frankly give even a normal man an epilectic fit, shocking use of colour! Oh and because of it it's hard to hit any of the cunts on the screen, you may as well be on survival mode from start to finish....unless that actually IS the main point of the game. And yes I was meant to cut out the high scorey bit at the end but I forgot, slapped wrist for me...well after 460-odd videos I was BOUND to fuck up at least once...hang on I do that all the time...humbag!
Retroinvaders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-09-12 | To follow up on the Space Invaders clone series, I look at the more recent Retroinvaders, or RI, by Climacus who brought you Gimme Bright which none of you will remember. This was brought to my attention initially by zyxyz000062 and the recently resurrected Yethboth and isn't typically a clone but more precisely a new take of Space Invaders which combines gameplay from Gyruss, so in essence it's actually a Gyruss clone with Space Invaders elements. Very clever idea and it really pays off, this is most impressive indeed.
Space Raiders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-09-06 | And the last Space Invaders clone I look at is Space Raiders, and it's right up there with Invaders, it's slower and definately noisier but it plays really well, just as well as Invaders in fact, really good clone, number two for me just behind Invaders.

Space Intruders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-30 | Another highly enjoyable Space Invaders clone, okay the aliens are tiny and all green but the game plays really well and it has probably the best weapon on another Space Invaders game, check that laser out!
Invaders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-28 | Simply put the best Space Invaders game on the ZX Spectrum, this is just magnificent! Highly playable and addictive, colourful, challenging, plays at a great speed and most of all it has the tune - ok it simply blips playing in different pitches but it's still that Space Invaders tune we know and love. For Space Invaders on the Spectrum it don't get much better than this.
Base Invaders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-26 | THE INVASION CON..oh give it a rest already...when I initially uploaded these videos three years ago for the "invasion" I had to say that EVERY time. Enough waffle, as you might have guess it's another Space Invaders game and it's another Space Invaders game with silly aliens and delayed killings, oh and it's quite possibly one of the easiest Space Invaders game on the Spectrum, for your laser blocks the enemy fire and effectively becomes a shield...thus it becomes a breeze...and thus Breeze Invaders is rather more appropriate.
Spectral Invaders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-22 | THE INVASION CONTINUES! No it fucking doesn't because there is no invasion, I'm just being silly and taking the piss! Anyways this was nearly at the beginning of the ZX Spectrum's life and it isn't a bad Space Invaders clone. The one thing to note that for a 1982 this has colour unlike Super Space Invaders which is a sight you'll get used to, however it's a little glitchy in that it sometimes doesn't registered a hit and the invader stays on the screen, which kinda spoils the fun in it...still I won't knock it too badly, it's a nice attempt at a clone.
Super Space Invaders ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-19 | Back in 2010 on my other channel I uploaded a number of Space Invaders games for the YouTube Space Invasion, a novelty project that had you uploading Space Invaders videos for no apparant reason other than get a shoutout and have your name completely butchered in the process - nice! Well those videos are gone forever but fret not because I've gone through some of those games again and made all new videos for your discomfort, ain't I kind? First up we look at Super Space Invaders by Domark, and boy they screwed up totally by making the whole thing monochrome and having the invaders the same colour as the backgrounds. Like "how do you fuck up Space Invaders" a wise man once asked - these guys certainly achieved it! Sheesh!
The Way of the Exploding Fist ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-13 | Widely seen as one of the best fighting games on the ZX Spectrum, and they aren't wrong, this is fantastic. Of course the C64 version is yards better but this is a very faithful port. The only thing is I was never that good at this game so don't expect me to set the world alight, but nevermind I've put off uploading this long enough and I'm running out of ideas (for once!) so here it is finally.
Postman Pat 3 ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-08 | After the charm of Postman Pat 2 I was really excited when I spent my saved up pocket money on Postman Pat 3....and man I was disappointed! Gone was the fun gameplay of walking around posting letters and in was a boring concept of driving your van to throw packages at numbers whilst avoiding other vehicles and spikes...and failing. Alternative really went backwards with this game....less like Postman Pat and more like Professional Parcel Throwing Simulator. Dear me.
Postman Pat 2 ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-06 | As promised here is the second of Postman Pat's games...collectively named Postman Pat 2. This one I had as a kid and it's a million times better than the first game....this time you simply guide Pat himself to deliver letters to homes as well as doing other activities like finding a bell for someone's bike plus chickens come and steal your letters and you must find them before you can post again. Quite fun but gets redundant after a while...but still it's a lot less tedious that the first game.....I think. Essentially having finished my round this is a walkthrough but I did this in the easy difficulty so therefore not much of an impressive feat, but still it's my video and I barely do well in these vids, so a walkthrough's a walkthrough....please can we call this a walkthrough? PLEASE???
Postman Pat ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-05 | Yes you really are seeing something quite extraordinary...Postman Pat of all people had his own game...what's even more extraordinary is he had two further sequels! And this week I'm uploading all three of them back to back...ain't I a jolly good chappie or what? I had the second and third ones growing up but the first one alluded me throughout my childhood. So here is his original game that I missed to start off with, and my it's a tedious pile of cack! The game basically gives you one hour to drive around delivering parcels and later letters, the fun part of the game being you drive around for 20 bleeding minutes lost in the middle of nowhere looking for the residence of a Miss Hubbard. And this is aimed at children as Postman Pat was essentially a children's character....and this folks is how we discovered boredom.
Crazy Castles ZX Spectrum Spectrum Nostalgia 2013-08-01 | Nice little arcade style game where you simply collect all the thingys on the grid to advance. Simple, well it would if only I could find a way out of level 3 that is, it's not for the weak, only the skilled will progress...unless I'm shit at this game, ah yes that'll be it....*he sobbed*.
