My goal is that the shoe will allow you to walk as much as you want in the virtual world while staying in the same spot in the real world.Playing No Man's Sky in VR with my free-standing VR support rig and VR shoes.FAQs:* I'm using the joystick on the controller to move in game. I'll add feet tracking later for PCVR, maybe for the Oculus Quest too. * The rig supports crouching and sitting.* There are no motors in the shoes, they are passive. I've made motorized shoes in the past and will come back to that later. The passive shoes have stoppers on the front and back to stop the shoes when the user lifts his toes or heel.* This is a DIY project and is open-source.* It takes some practice to use them. I got the hang of walking in a few minutes. My wife in 20 minutes. It took a few hours to turn and walk simultaneously. As you can see I can walk backwards, but it still feels a bit awkward.* You push against the climbing harness to bring your feet back. VR Shoe Build Log #51 - Support Rig Demo of Walking, Running, Crouching, Sitting and How It Works Finally Functional 2022-01-30 | In this build series I'm making a shoe to be used in virtual reality games. My goal is that the shoe will allow you to walk as much as you want in the virtual world while staying in the same spot in the real world.In this video I first demo walking, turning, running, crouching, sitting, and leaning. Then I explain how the upper part of the rig works (I went over the bottom part in the previous build log). There are still more improvements to make (I have a list of 16 of them), but I think it's coming along nicely.The one area that I'm a bit disappointed with is walking while turning. It's harder to do both at the same time with this rig than with my ceiling mounted rig. I believe this is because there is just more mass to move with this rig than with the other one. I have more improvements to make and some of them may make turning easier. My goal is that the shoe will allow you to walk as much as you want in the virtual world while staying in the same spot in the real world.* I'm using the joystick on the controller to move in game. I'll add feet tracking later for PCVR, maybe for the Oculus Quest too. * The rig supports crouching.* There are no motors in the shoes, they are passive. I've made motorized shoes in the past and will come back to that later. The passive shoes have stoppers on the front and back to stop the shoes when the user lifts his toes or heel.* This is a DIY project and is open-source (see links below).* It takes some practice to use them. I got the hang of walking in a few minutes. My wife in 20 minutes. It took a few hours to turn and walk simultaneously. I can walk backwards but it's awkward.* You push against the climbing harness to bring your feet back.
