I have changed the gearbox oil from synthetic to 40W mineral oil. This has stopped the leaks from the oil plug, made the gears quieter and smoother. The bike’s running like a new bike. I’m very pleased with it!BSA Bantam Final Miles Before ServiceMike Langdon2025-01-11 | 1968 BSA Bantam D14/4 Supreme completing its last miles before the 2000 mile service.BSA Bantam New Filter SetupMike Langdon2025-01-09 | Taking the 1968 BSA Bantam D14/4 Supreme for its first run since fitting an original air hose from the side panel to carburettor. I found the pancake filter which was originally fitted to the carburettor fitted perfectly in the air box, over the air hose. I held this in place with cable ties from the original hooks in the air box.
All the 4 stroking problems and lack of power at full throttle have now been fixed with this air filter setup.Bullet to BudeMike Langdon2025-01-02 | First ride of 2025 on my Royal Enfield Bullet 500. This leaned the fuel mix, resulting in me changing the p/jet and m/jet sizes. Unfortunately the baffles fell out after 1000 miles and they were no where to be seen. I managed to get an original D14 baffle and end cone, which I restored and fitted. This made the fuel mix richer than before, resulting in me downsizing the jets back to standard sizing. In this video I go for a ride to get the engine to operating temperature, so I can tune the carburettor. I do this part way through the video by screwing out the throttle stop screw to slow idle, screwing in the air screw for fast idle, screwing out the throttle stop screw again to slow idle, adjusting air screw for fastest smooth idle, then finally adjusting throttle stop screw for correct idle speed. I’m not overly happy with the acceleration and pulling power, so will be going to a bigger throttle slide and jets to increase fuel input and hopefully the acceleration and pulling power.BSA Bantam No Longer Baffled!Mike Langdon2024-11-11 | Half way through my journey to Torbay the tone of my exhaust changed dramatically, as well as the noise level. I quickly pulled over and noticed I no longer had the end cone and baffles in the exhaust. I walked up the road, but couldn’t find any of the pieces. This is a video of the journey back home. My ears were ringing by the time I made it home.BSA Bantam at MinionsMike Langdon2024-11-10 | BSA Bantam D14/4 at Minions, Cornwall.
