We sincerely hope you enjoy the content ^^We began uploading Korean content in May 2012. We hustled and tried our best. Then we opened this channel in September 2012, played around with it for awhile, and began uploading daily content in September 2014.From September 2012 until somewhere in 2018, we uploaded a Top 5 Friday video every single week. Every. Single. Week! Some weeks we uploaded more than one, and we NEVER missed a week. That's close to 300 professional grade Koreans and Asian drama review lists videos, and that does not count TOAD reviews, LIKE IT videos and, of course, HallyuBack News. That's an insane work ethic, one that took a nearly impossible daily amount of energy to maintain. The results speak for themselves. We are very proud of what we have accomplished.It’s been fun uploading videos on YouTube. It takes quite a bit of energy to make even a single attractive video appear publicly on YouTube. When you start, you have no idea what you’re getting into. As time goes by, and your channel grows, you learn. You learn that it’s fun, and you learn that it’s hard. It’s hard to grow an audience, maintain it, and be successful. People appreciate it, and others hate on you. Either way, there’s a reaction to it all, regardless of the intention.The other day I was on YouTube looking up a specific topic about parenting. I found three videos from three different channels. Each video was well done. Each creator had put a lot of effort into not only that video, but their entire channel. And, at this point, each creator had ceased uploading content more than a year ago. Seeing that hurt. I can relate. Each creator, in this instance, had put a tremendous amount of time and energy into their craft. And, in each instance, it started small, grew somewhat large, and ended with a fizzle. It’s sad.Even for the channels that started years ago and carry on, there’s an emotional toll that's sustained that really only creators can relate with. Fans watch and write in the comments, but fans simply cannot fully understand. If you’re watching and commenting without a substantial channel of your own that you regularly upload to, you’re still on the outside. You’ll never have any idea what it’s like to be on the inside until you actually make it happen yourself.Starting early on like we did, first in 2012, and again with this channel in 2014, there wasn’t hardly any roadmap or examples of other creators making it work on YouTube. Then as more creators joined the platform, they were learning from the us, and those who came before us. They coupd easily learn from our mistakes. Creators cannot redo what they have started. That’s impossible. One can only carry on.We are at a true cross roads. A #pregnancy in a brand new country. A brand new family member practically here. We’re thrilled! We couldn’t be happier. All these new fun, exciting experiences and memories happening.We’ll always be here. Thank you for always being a part of our memories :)

When we started however, it was a whole different ballgame. The landscaper has certainly changed. The terms YouTuber’ and ‘Content Creator’ were not commonly used phrases when we started blogging back in 2012. These days, nearly everyone knows what a content creator is. And YouTuber? The more famous the YouTuber, or the more popular the channel, chances are you’ve heard of them, and maybe you’re even subscribed.Recently, I’ve taken quite good look at the YouTube analytics. For people who are subscribed and watching, nearly all of you watch the entire upload from beginning to end. Subscribers are here for our content! That’s exciting!! For non-subscribers, it’s such a different story that it’s not even funny. People drop by for whatever reason, click on the video, watch for a moment, and click off. Most non-subscribers won’t even watch for thirty seconds.At the time of writing this, truthfully, we have more than 33,000 subscribers. Nevertheless, there’s actually less than about a 1000 of you that look forward to, and want the content we are creating and uploading. And, the amount of subscribers on our channel hasn’t grown since about the middle of 2017. All of this isn’t just disappointing, it’s outright discouraging.I even said to Stephanie not long ago that, back in the heyday of HallyuBack, before BTS was invited on all the award shows and known throughout the world, the two of us were so busy creating content seven days a week on YouTube for two channels daily, AND Stephanie sinking her heart into artwork day after day, that I never had additional time to myself to just sit with the YouTube analytics and study it. That was a fantasy. When we started, not only were there not many channels that were legit uploading content, amongst those channels, nobody had quit. People who had ideas were all jumping in, and working their asses off on it. You either created content and your channel was growing, or you were an end user who consumed content. Maybe you had a dream of one day also being a YouTuber, but in reality, we can all agree that met everyone is cut out for this type of work.In 2023, I come across channel after channel that has started making content, built their channel up to maybe 150k or 250k subscribers, but it’s been more than a year since their last upload. This status was non-existent when we started. Nowadays, such a high percentage of channels have been started, grown significantly, but can no longer be sustained. And Stephanie and I, we are at this crossroads too.Stephanie and I have worked our asses off to get to this point in our life. When you start off on YouTube, and your channel starts to grow, you cannot see an end in sight. People who start channels and develop any sort of fan base become filled with ides for future videos. Much of your day becomes this sort of quasi brainstorming activity, complete with dress and aspirations built right in. It’s exciting. As time goes by, you hone it, improve it, and nuture it. You never see the end, because you’re not imagining it.On YouTube, if we are doing it simply for memories alone, I can make videos all day long like this, and just upload them to YouTube unlisted. And there they will sit forever. These days, professional YouTube is mostly a young person’s game. It’s either a young person’s game, or big business. The audience has also changed so much since we started; people are so much more likely to watch a reel or short. I’m sure if you’re still reading this, then you’re well aware that we haven’t uploaded a short, reel, story or snap in quite a while. That fact hurts our channel’s growth. Even when we did, those didn’t appear the way popular channels are making them now. For heaven’s sake, TikTok didn’t even exist when we started. Not even SnapChat.You did expect all this of course, right?

We drove our car into the city, and after our appointments we strolled around and had some lunch.The weather during the #winter in this part of the world is absolutely lovely. High of 62 degrees (17C) today.Our #newborn Robin had a blast, and we even almost took him ice skating! We also ran into one of the nurses who was there when Stephanie gave birth.All in all, an excellent day!Happy New Year!!

Viva la dolce vita!In moving here to #Italy recently, there’s definitely been some ups and downs. But, at only three months in, the journey is just beginning! And, we’ve barely scratched the surface of our future lives here, and what it means to live in Italy.We’ve also bare scratched the surface of the potential of these new places that bought. Did I mention that the studio is a #fixerupper that we are restoring?I cannot wait to see the transformation that is going to happen in the studio. I think it holds enormous potential to be quite the inspirational retreat. We’ve got a lot of big plans, and we’re honestly starting to run short in time to execute them because all our family wants to come and see the newest edition to our family! OUR NEW BABY BOY BORN IN ITALY!! HallyuBack 2022-12-13 | Our newborn son became quite ill only days after his birth, and needed to be HOSPITALIZED only 11 days after he was born.facebook.com/hallyubackA #miracle occurred on November 30th, 2022 at 8:40 in the evening at San Luca Hospital in Lucca, Italy when our baby boy was born. We named him Robin Ishler Lucchesi. Robin is the son of Stephanie Ishler and Richard Lucchesi, both of whom currently reside in Italy.With our #newborn son Robin, things had been going quite well since his birth. However, we had some difficulties creating his birth certificate in Italy, the details of which are outlined in this video. Because of an unfortunate turn of events, I became sick, and passed my illness along to my wife and newborn child. HOW MUCH GROCERIES COST IN ITALY 2022 Super Cheap! HallyuBack 2022-12-05 | Going to the #supermarket in Italy has been quite the adventure since we moved here just over a month ago. American supermarkets, especially where we lived, were huge, and had everything under the sun available from all sorts of different countries.facebook.com/HallyuBackI haven't gone grocery shopping recently in Korea, but from what I remember, supermarkets there were either megastores with tons of items available, or local stores with fresh produce and #groceries consisting of just a few aisles. Italy is a lot like Korea, in that some supermarkets are gigantic, and others not so much.What we've found, however, is that the quality of goods available in Europe, and in particular in #Italy, is second to none. Produce is normally very fresh, and selection ranges from super local to items from across the globe.And, do NOT even get me started on the prices! While grocery shopping in the United States and Korea can be expensive, especially these days, in comparison, Italy is far less expensive.I sent Richard to the grocery store to pick up a couple items now that we have a car. I cannot believe how much he was able to purchase for under 100 Euro. I was in absolute shock when he returned home from the local grocery store, we decided to capture my reaction in real time to unveiling everything he purchased.Let us know in the comments your reaction to our grocery haul! American Girl Gives Birth in Italy!! HallyuBack 2022-11-21 | Surprises come in all different shapes and sizes! So, when Richard and I received amazing news last week, we wanted to share it with everyone. facebook.com/HallyuBackBomi was my English student for most of the time I was a college professor in Korea. But she wasn’t just any student; she was one of my MOST memorable! She was very lively in any class that I taught, and often helped others become more engaged when English may have been their least favorite subject.When she reached out to me after seeing some of my posts on Facebook and insisted we hang out, of course I agreed! What a pleasure to reunite in my new home of #Italy with someone who is also fairly new here! We decided to meet in #Lucca since there was a #Comiccon Festival taking place called Lucca Comics. We couldn't find each other right away, but once we finally did, it was so good to finally see her again!My pregnancy has been a memorable one for sure. My baby was conceived in Florida earlier this year, and after selling our home there, we spent most of the summer in NY. Now that we’ve moved to Italy and live here, it’s so wonderful that I have reconnected with a friend who was once a student.This meeting and dinner we shared with Bomi and her husband Marco was an exceptional experience that I’m so happy we could share. 9 MONTHS PREGNANT ANKLE INJURY IN ITALY | BEST ITALIAN DOCTOR! HallyuBack 2022-11-10 | Less than two weeks after arriving to Italy, we had already applied for and established our residency. Once residency is complete, we then signed up for the National Health Insurance, or ‘Servizio Sanitario Nazionale’ in Italian. facebook.com/hallyubackWhen I was in the office signing up, the worker gave me the option to choose our Primary Care Doctor. The process of choosing our doctor in Italy was quick. The girl pulled up the long list doctors on the computer screen, some of which were not in our area. She was speaking completely in Italian, so as I was trying to read names and locations, I was also trying to listen to her. I do believe she said that we could change our Primary #Doctor at any time. They always say that, but if I wanted to change, exactly how do I do it? Anyways, I chose who I think was the only woman available in #Italy in our immediate area. It was a blind choice, because I made the decision right at the same time I was signing up for insurance. And, we’ve already concluded that we made an excellent choice!Doctors here are available whenever you need them. You have a direct line to their cell phone, and they answer when you call. The actual doctor answers the phone. When they are in the office, they have a secretary working for them as well, but when they are not in the clinic, they either answer, or call back right away. Pretty incredible experience coming from the American and Korean medical systems.We are so grateful already she is our doctor! We’ve seen her several times already, mostly because of the #pregnancy and she’s been very receptive. She’s also super hard working. I admire that greatly. In the moment, she and I were both sure she would be fine. If I felt it was something she couldn’t do, or if she had a hunch it was too much, either of us would have said something before the #accident happened. Luckily, it’s either just a sprain, or a broken bone.It’s bad for a woman 8 months #pregnant, but it could have been much, much worse.At the moment, it seems like everything is fine with the baby. I’m calling the doctor in the morning to schedule an appointment. its been so hard in italy HallyuBack 2022-10-31 | Our actual move to #Italy started with our belongings all packed up in the car, four large suitcases to be precise plus two carry on backpacksa, two cats in their carriers, and six hour drive from Richard's mother's house to JFK International.http://facebook.com/hallyubackFrom there, we went through security with the kitties, and then waited several hours to board. We very fortunately had purchased business class on Neos Air for our seven hour flight over the Atlantic, a very clutch move if I do say so myself. Once arriving in Malpensa, we collected out luggage, and found the shuttle bus in Milan Central Station, at least an hour away from the airport with morning rush hour traffic. We arrived at the station, unloaded all our suitcases from the bus, and slowly proceeded to make our way into the station where our wait would consist of about another five hours before our train heading south to Tuscany departed. Stephanie making her way through Milan where the shuttle bus dropped us off to the train station pulling two large suitcases, back pack strapped on her back, and with a cat in a carrier on the luggage, AND #pregnant as she is was honestly terrifying.After having our first coffee, we found a spot on the floor of the train station to one side, sort of barricaded ourselves in, and let the cats out of the carriers on their leashes. Maki didn't actually leave the carrier. Minho sort of freaked out for a moment, and went back into his carrier pretty quickly too.While on the floor of the station, one by one we found a Telecom shop replace our American SIM cards with a Italian SIM. We both received new service, new telephone numbers, and continued waiting. We arrived about 7am to Italy, and our train headed to Tuscany was set to depart at 1pm.Close to the time we were set to board, we made our way on the platform. It was a busy day at the train station, and certainly wasn't easy to maneuver our way to board. Stephanie and Maki lagged behind. Our train car was several hundred meters down the platform. I pulled my luggage to the opening of our car, turned around and didn't see Stephanie. I headed back down the platform to help. When I finally found her, a young Italian man was pulling her suitcases for her towards our train car for her. Stephanie was breathing heavy.Since arriving, it's been a wonderful and crazy experience nearly every day. We are loving it that we get to live through such a unique and new variety of experiences. We are learning new language. We are making new friends. And, of course, we are experiencing some challenges as well.Moving to a new country more than seven months pregnant proved to be exactly how one might expect: super challenging. #Pregnancy has also thrown into the mix a wrinkle that adds flavor to everything. AUTHENTIC KOREAN FOOD IN NEW YORK!! HallyuBack 2022-09-27 | We love Korean Food! We eat it whenever we can, and we prepare it sometimes when our cravings for something spicy grow strong. For our very last time eating out together in America before moving to Europe, we decided #Korean was most appropriate. It was an excellent choice.Steph ordered "Dol-sot Bibimbap" #돌솥비빔밥 and Richard scarfed down "Osam Bulgogi" #오삼불고기 sizzling off the skillet! Such fantastic food is served up at the local Korean restaurants here in NY! We didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to indulge in tasty Korean cuisine one last time before boarding our flights while pregnant, and with our two cats, bound for a new home in a new land. Pregnant Woman Cries Receiving Italian Visa HallyuBack 2022-09-23 | WE HAVE WONDERFUL NEWS!!!! After planning for several years to one day live in #Italy, and waiting for what seemed like forever, the day finally came for us to attend our residency application appointments at the Italian Consulate in NY City to apply for our visas. At the appointment last month, the Consulate Officer informed us that we each had issues with our residency applications. Because of this, we both were almost sure that our residency visas would not get approved. After a very special afternoon where I wrote in my journal to my mother (who passed away 14 years ago), not five minutes later the phone rang and it was the consulate. They did not call with good news, but Richard did mention that I was pregnant and didn’t have much time left to travel internationally on a airplane.The journaling and subsequent call happened on a Monday, and by Friday of the same week, September 16, 2022 to be exact, the same day my mother passed away 14 years ago, and also the same day as our first cat Maki's birthday, our passports were returned to us. A #residency #visa had been stamped in each passport, and our visas had been issued!!We are going to Italy guys!!!!!!!!! We cannot believe it..See you in Italy ^^
Spending $300 at the Korean Supermarket HallyuBack 2022-09-18 | My friend and I visited two local Asian Markets and spent THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS for Korean and Japanese food! I show you everything we purchased, and then proceed to make as many different versions of #kimbap and #sushi as possible for her son’s 14th birthday party. We even bought these very cute #Miyazaki pokers to stick into some of the food. Delicious you guys, but you'll just have to take my word for it ^^

Maybe the most difficult thing in life is to discover the truth about who we really, actually are. I've been on this quest for most of my life, but it was only recently that I had a major breakthrough.What is the truest version of me? I'm still not sure, but I think I'm getting closer. Shutting down our YouTube channel HallyuBack 2022-09-05 | We started daily vlogging in Korea in September 2014, and for nearly three years straight we didn’t miss a day. Then we slowly widened our blogging schedule to every two days, then every three days or so, and so on. We did all that while also uploading regularly to our main channel #HallyuBack @KRTVtv and did it all without any outside help of an independent editor, employee or intern. When we started out, we had no idea what we were doing. Now, in 2022, Youtube has evolved so much and we feel ancient.Now that we are pregnant and moving to Italy, we are at a serious crossroads. With a body a fans that love Korean content, it seems a little too ambitious to think we can just steer this ship in a completely different direction. It’s daunting, intimidating, and frankly overwhelming to think about improving on our content creation, and trying to continue to grow this Korean-related channel while living in Europe.We love you guys to death. Each and every one of you means more to us than you know. I (Richard) really thought people would enjoy hearing our Italian friend roast our name choices in our most recent video. That’s one of the funniest videos I’ve ever edited and uploaded on this channel. It’s also maybe the least liked and watched since we lived in Korea. That’s crazy to think about. To be able to say that we purchased a new home in a foreign land is special, especially for a couple of globe wanderers like ourselves. It's one thing to travel outside your home country, and quite another to move outside your homeland. Buying a house and paying cash in full upfront is really what both of us consider the stuff of dreams.But we did it.We are SO EFFING PUMPED for what comes next in our lives.!!!! The thought of having a new house is cool, with all the anticipation of making a space your own. But the thought of possibly living together again outside North America still boggles both our minds! It's all still too fresh even to us.This life has been a whirlwind, and especially so for us. We’re so eternally grateful that life has proved for us. We’re ecstatic that we’re finally able to reveal to you what’s been happening the last couple of months. To be able to finally share the good news feels liberating to say the least.We’re excited to take you open this journey with us. We’re just starting, and it’s still quite a daunting process. I’m sure you have plenty of questions. On our end, we’re actually still trying to process all the things to give answers. We don’t even have answers necessarily. To not be bound by any one thing holding us down, or holding us back in life feels incredible. To sustain such a feeling and energy day after day after day takes focus and determination.The feeling these days feels unstoppable. Bulletproof.We are both leading with our hearts more than ever these days, and we believe it's going to shine through with our videos. We miss all of you! Most of the time people are a pleasure! But there are also signs that future guests might display before they arrive that hosts should look out for. Our most recent guests made a few blunders when they were making their reservation, and was really needy when I didn't immediately respond to his mistakes.
