The show itself is a very good albeit truncated performance owing to the band not wanting to miss the last train out of town. Plant's voice is easily the best it's sounded for the entire 1972 Japanese tour, with this being arguably the last recorded time he's able to nail all the high notes in Over the Hills and Far Away without too much trouble. This version has them in the proper order and has been speed corrected and cleaned up. This tape is overall pretty solid, being pretty clear and well balanced, although a bit noisy at times, and it still suffers from some speed issues during How Many More Times and Stairway to Heaven. The performance itself is very good for the era. Although Plant is clearly suffering from the flu, he's showing signs of improvement. Page is in fine form, especially on No Quarter, with Bonzo and Jones being their usual great selves. Led Zeppelin - Live in Los Angeles, CA (Aug. 21st, 1971) - NEW MERGE/BEST SOUND Led Zeppelin Boots 2022-08-15 | Thanks to the recent unveiling of a brand new source of this show taped by Eddie Vincent, here is a brand new three source merge of the band's first show in LA on their 1971 North American tour, put together by my friend ledzepfilm. This uses the new source for the first few songs. Sadly, Vincent was caught by Peter Grant himself and ordered to shut off his tape. Thus, he only captured the show up through Black Dog. A real shame, but this new source is the best sounding of all three sources. It's very clear and well balanced. The other two sources are a bit more distant, but nonetheless still pretty clear. As for the show itself, this is a fiery performance. The band is full of energy and determined to prove themselves. Bonham in particular comes through exceptionally loudly. I've never heard his drums sound this powerful before or since. Plant's voice is a bit strained and hoarse, but he still puts everything he has into his performance. These have been addressed in this merge, although it may not be perfect. The performance itself is excellent, as is typical for the era. This is a great performance, and I personally consider it to be the best of all the Earls Court gigs. Page in particular is having a great night, one of his best of the year. No Quarter is an especially big highlight (my personal favorite version from 1975), but the entire gig is well worth listening to. The audience recordings used in this merge are excellent, with the main one being perhaps the best sounding audience recording from all the Earls Court shows. This tour is widely considered to be a comeback for Page after his addiction struggles in the late 70s and early 80s. This proshot video is incomplete, with several songs being quite fragmentary. Oddly, it also seems to be a bit out of order in places. For example, City Sirens, which normally followed In My Time of Dying, has been inserted after Over the Hills and Far Away. I'm not sure if this is native to the files I downloaded or if something got messed up while they were encoding. Either way, I apologize and hope it isn't too distracting. So, in the interest of providing the best quality version of the show possible, here is the video soundtrack for the band's 2nd show at the 1979 Knebworth Festival in Stevenage, England. This is a historic performance, as it would prove to be the last ever time that Zeppelin would play in the UK with John Bonham. The performance is a mixed bag: Jones, Bonham, and Plant are all having a great night, with Plant having one of his best post 77 gigs. Page on the other hand is...well...let's just say he's had better nights. The story is that he was upset over the mediocre reviews of the band's first performance at the festival, so decided to get wasted. This is especially evident in the video of this performance where he's sweating profusely after just a couple of songs. This recording is clear but unfortunately VERY distant, sounding as if it was recorded from the nosebleeds. It's so distant that Plant's comments between songs are rather hard to make out. For this reason, this recording has sometimes been passed off as being from other shows, such as Dallas on April 1st. This upgrade is from a transfer of the tape from Glyn that was then EQ'd and hiss reduced by Ed. Although the recording is muddy at the start, it soon clears up and becomes a pretty decent audience tape, albeit somewhat distant. This merge features an upgrade of the "Ten Years Gone" source (so called because it's the first and only source from this show that contains the song). The recording is still far from perfect, but it sounds quite a lot better than it used to. As for the performance, this is an incredible show, one of the best of the year easily. Despite being less well known compared to the more famous "Listen to this Eddie" and "For Badgeholders Only" shows, this concert is just as good as either, if not even better. This show notably features the longest ever performance of No Quarter, clocking in at over 33 minutes, as well as the only time that Over the Hills and Far Away and In My Time of Dying were played in the same set for 1977 (and both are contenders for the best versions ever imho). Both are incomplete with several songs being cut. Nonetheless, this is a great alternative perspective of this show, which is one of the best shows of the first leg of the tour, featuring the 2nd longest Dazed and Confused ever, clocking in at a whopping 41 minutes! Led Zeppelin - Live in Uniondale, NY (June 15th, 1972) - MOST COMPLETE Led Zeppelin Boots 2022-04-13 | As requested by krack, here is the complete audience source of the band's 2nd show in Uniondale during their 1972 North American tour. My previous upload of this show had Stairway edited due to copyright issues as well as a small portion of Whole Lotta Love that actually repeated itself at the very end. This show is truly fantastic, with my personal favorite Dazed and Confused of 1972. The recording is very good, being only a little distant. Unfortunately, the tapers are very chatty and can be quite disruptive. They are actually friends of Artie, a taper who taped many Zeppelin shows in the New York area from 1971 onwards. Apparently, Artie himself had snuck away at this show and sat on the stage with a shirt that said "STAFF" on it. Once he was caught, security escorted him to his seat, which turned out to be nowhere near his friends. Sadly, Artie had a second 120 minute cassette to go with the one his friends had, so this recording cuts off towards the end of Whole Lotta Love, missing any and all encores as well as the majority of Moby Dick. Still, this is a must hear show. Led Zeppelin - Live in Chicago, IL (April 7th, 1977) Led Zeppelin Boots 2022-04-07 | As requested by krack, and in honor of its anniversary, here is the band's 2nd of four shows in Chicago at the beginning of their 1977 North American tour. This show is a rather mixed bag, with Page clearly still rusty from the nearly two years off and Plant being rather below average for the year. Bonham and Jones, of course, are great as usual. This recording is hissy, noisy, and sometimes muffled, and it's unfortunately rather fragmentary, missing about half of the acoustic set, the drum solo, Page's guitar/noise solo, and most of Achilles Last Stand. Interestingly, In My Time of Dying and Trampled Underfoot were dropped from the setlist tonight because the Chicago Blackhawks would be playing a playoff game the following night, which necessitated Zeppelin finishing the show by 11pm in order to dismantle the sound system to prepare for the game.
