Alauda Aeronautics Aerospace Engineer, Callan Cranenburgh speaks on his battery panel work to improve internal Speeder access for Alauda Aeronautics engineers, ultimately cutting pitstop time from over 1 minute to sub-30 seconds.
Working closely with our Chief Remote Pilot, Andrew Jackson, Callan and the engineering team are stepping through the verification and validation phase of the FPV system. The successful integration will allow Airspeeder pilots to fly - test and race - in FPV in 2022.
The old adage “weight is the enemy of performance’' couldn’t be more true in the air. Project Manager Brett Hill returns to discuss the result of six months focused on “adding lightness”. The result is increased efficiency reflected through better battery range as well as greater endurance, speed and maneuverability. Upon testing the new and improved Mk3C, pilots reported an instant improvement in agility and responsiveness with a vast difference in the overall flight experience.

Alauda Aeronautics Embedded Software Engineer Andrei Pavlov discusses how the team has improved the accuracy of these systems down to a centimetre through the use of fixed ground stations. We dive into the process of localizing Speeders and verifying navigation systems by flying Speeders on predefined flight paths in testing. Ultimately, the system ensures the safety of pilots with a Home Return function to be triggered in the event of loss of control which will return the Speeder to home position safely. GPS data is combined with sensor data and onboard cameras on Mk3 eVTOL race Speeders to enable every racing pilot to have this relative positional data displayed in their HUD. This great progress on collision avoidance is a boost ahead of the first of three international races in the EXA Series across 2022.

This next phase will bring electric flying car racing to a global audience through the world’s first Grand Prix series. These events will be hosted on every continent and provide a vital place and space for the Advanced Air Mobility industry to rapidly accelerate technology and build mass enthusiasm and awareness for world-changing eVTOL technology (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles).
Furthermore, it will drive Alauda Aeronautics, the designer and manufacturing of the racing craft that will take part in Airspeeder’s forthcoming GP races (also owned by Matt Pearson) to develop the world’s first private performance eVTOL craft for private use.

We also welcome and introduce Henri Nicholas as Head of Aerostructures at Alauda Aeronautics. Hailing from a Formula One - in fact, leading Scuderia Ferrari’s composites team in the Schumacher era - and aviation background, Henri overviews the huge amount of work achieved in aerostructures, system and flight control management. With constant improvements in reliability, efficiency and speed as a result of flight testing, three Alauda Mk3C Speeder vehicles are ready to race. With more tests inbound, focus will turn to increasing power delivered from the powertrain, aerodynamic improvement as well as use of tools for pilots to improve confidence to push the craft harder and faster.
