Its Race Day At The San Diego Supercross | Pre-Race News Break Swapmoto Live 2024-01-20 | After a much-needed few days to dry out, clean up, and rebuild from the wet trip to San Francisco, the Monster Energy Supercross Champion continues its time in California with the 2024 San Diego Supercross, the third round in the series. This weekend will be the 50th anniversary of the sport, and nearly every team, gear brand, or part producer has gotten in on the celebration.This will be the second visit to Snapdragon Stadium, a very new venue that is located on the same property where Qualcomm Stadium once was. The football field is much different than the baseball diamonds in Orange County and San Francisco, and that’s reflected in the lanes that dart back and forth across the rectangular floor.The dirt is an element unique to the area, as it is very hard and dense, and tends to pack in and slick off, especially when the sun goes down. Dirt Wurx had days of sunshine to sculpt and scratch the clay, a desert adobe that Broc Glover says was sourced from Carlsbad in North County, but steady showers on raceday could put their planning and maintenance efforts to the test. Nearly a half inch of rain is expected to hit through the afternoon and during the night show.

The mood is high in spite of the dark skies, though, and the racing tonight should definitely be interesting. Supercross Is Back In San Francisco & Its Gonna Be Wet | Pre-Race News Break Swapmoto Live 2024-01-13 | After a sunny start to the season in Southern California, the Monster Energy Supercross Championship has headed north for what’s set to be a very wet second round, the 2024 San Francisco Supercross. Racing returns to Oracle Park after 14 years on the east side of the Bay, and everyone is excited to be in the city, even with the high odds of a mudder.Supercross has only raced in this venue eight times before today, and no visit was as early as round two. Yamaha’s three 450 Class Main Events wins are the most of the OEMs, including two with Chad Reed in 2004 and 2008 and one with James Stewart in 2009, but a blue bike has never been on the top step of the podium here in the 250 Class.105 riders are on the entry list, with 58 signed up for the 450 Class and 47 in the 250 West Coast Region.This is the same dirt that was used for the Oakland rounds in years past, and it was trucked across the Bay Bridge and dumped on the baseball diamond for a Monster Jam event that happened last Saturday.Weather has been a factor all week. The Dirt Wurx crew booked it here straight after A1 and started to re-shape the soil on Sunday, then put it two long days to get the bulk of the course built and covered before a rain front came through midweek. Although the rest of the week was dry but cloudy, the dark dirt was still wet and heavy in spots, and the decision was made to cancel press day.That isn’t the only adjustment that’s been made to the schedule, though, as the AMA pushed track walk back to noon and scrapped Saturday’s Free Practice. Riders will still get two Timed Qualifying sessions to learn the track and set their place in the field, and current forecasts show a break in the weather happening around this time.Unfortunately, a second round of showers is slated to come through around 5PM, just as the night show begins, with the heaviest happening from 7PM to 9PM, around the time bikes and riders will be on track for the Main Events. The total rainfall amount for Saturday is expected to be just over half an inch.

San Francisco SX is Gonna Be a MUDDER! Swapmoto Live 2024-01-13 | The SML team is in San Francisco for round two of the Monster Energy Supercross Series, held inside Oracle Park, home of the MLS's Giants. Sadly, the weather has not been - and is not scheduled to be - kind to Saturday's event as rainfall earlier in the week has already left the track a soggy mess. Heavy rain is predicted to fall at a couple of different times on race day, with a significant chance of precipitation throughout the daylight hours. The normal afternoon free practice sessions have been canceled, and the schedule pushed back two hours to 1:00 p.m. While the thought of a mud race strikes fear into the hearts of some but excitement into others, one thing is for sure: the better prepared for the wet conditions teams and riders are, the better their chances of success are. We worked the indoor pit area outside Oracle Stadium today to find out just how everyone is preparing for a sloppy day in the Bay Area. "It's all in your attitude," Ken Roczen told us. "I can't wait! Two Laps of Shimoda Supercross Swapmoto Live 2024-01-12 | Honda HRC's Jo Shimoda had a slow start in the Anaheim One main event and worked up to fourth, but that was hardly what the rider from Japan is capable of on his new CRF250R. We logged this footage several weeks ago but were asked to hold it because Shimoda was actually trying out the new Fox Speed Suit for the first time and it was under embargo until the season opener.
RAW Supercross with Maximus Vohland Swapmoto Live 2024-01-11 | We caught up with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Maximus Vohland at the K4 Kawasaki Supercross track a couple of weeks ago and he was looking smooth and confident as he worked on sprints with his training partner Jason Anderson. Maximus certainly showed some great speed last weekend at Anaheim One, but the second-generation rider was a little too cautious as he passed the red-cross flags and was thus knocked from a podium position back to fifth. We expect to see Vohland on the podium soon enough...is this weekend's San Francisco mud race gonna be the day?

Its Race Day At The Anaheim One Supercross! | Pre-Race News Break Swapmoto Live 2024-01-06 | After months of anticipation and hype, it’s finally time for the 2024 Anaheim One Supercross, the first round of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship and the combined 31-event SuperMotocross Championship.Today will be the 33rd time the season starts at Angel Stadium, bringing the building’s race total to a staggering 82 gate drops, the most of any venue in the sport’s 51-year history. Yamaha has the most victories of the OEMs at the A, including Eli Tomac’s wild lead-crash-charge effort at last year’s kickoff and two of Jeremy McGrath’s record-setting five wins at the Southern California season opener. Of the active riders, Ken Roczen is the only one with a chance to match MC’s mark.One hundred five riders have filed entries with the AMA, with 61 in the 450 Class and 44 in the 250 West Coast Region. The 450 Class is stacked, with 15 riders with 250 Regional SX titles to their credit, two with just 250 National Motocross number one plates, and four 450 SX champions. The 250 West Coast region is a mix of past winners and podium finishers, but no one competing in the small-bore division has a major award on their record.

Last year, she turned pro and succeeded in winning the AMA NGPC Women's Championship in her first attempt. A lifelong KTM racer, Nielsen signed with Mark Samuels' SLR Honda team for 2024 and beyond, and she will contest several series for the team as a full-time professional dirt bike racer.Mikayla gave her new SLR Honda its racing debut at the final round of the AMSOIL/Dirt Bike Kidz Swapmoto Race Series Fall Classic at Glen Helen. We Fix the 2024 Husqvarna FC 450! | Taller Suspension, More Power Swapmoto Live 2024-01-04 | The 2024 Husqvarna FC 450 finished sixth in our annual 450 Shootout, but we knew that it would be easy to make it into one of our favorites. Based on the same platform as the KTM 450 SX-F and Gas Gas MC 450, the Husqvarna is set up differently to appeal to a different audience with shorter suspension travel, a lower seat height, and a mellower power delivery. While this is a great bike for a select group of riders, none of our testers fit into that category and thus, it scored sixth in our comparison. But what would it take to bring the Husky up to KTM standards? Not much! We took the WP suspension components to Shock Therapy Racing for a stiffer shock spring and firmer settings front and rear, but a conversion that brought the suspension travel and seat height back to "full-sized." To accommodate the greater suspension stroke out back we had to obtain a suspension linkage knuckle from KTM, but everything else was performed by STR.STR Fork Revalve $210SKF Fork Seals and Wipers. $79.95Fork Bushings $39.95WP Cartridge Kit $500STR Shock Revalve $220Shock Spring $149.95Shock Therapy Racing (714) 724-9005One of the things the Husqvarna FC 450 lacks in comparison to the KTM is a snappy, quick-revving powerband. The slower-revving character of the Husky also has more engine braking, which in turn can give the bike a heavier feel on the track. Jamie Ellis at Twisted Development is a master of ECU programming and is a leading Vortex dealer, but he also has the software to get into the stock ECU and move things around. In a matter of minutes, Ellis reprogrammed our Husky's stock ignition to have a freer-revving feel and a stronger pull throughout the RPM range. It should be noted that Twisted Development Racing is the only performance shop with this technology. Three Decades of Design at Troy Lee Designs with Maki Ushiroyama Swapmoto Live 2024-01-03 | Right after graduating high school, Maki Ushiroyama left his home in Japan and moved to California with the dream of riding dirt bikes and finding a job in the motocross industry. While attending an art school in San Diego, he drove to Troy Lee Designs in Corona, some two hours north, to meet Troy and ask if he could intern at TLD. And with that, as they say, the rest is history. Maki spent 32 years designing helmets, t-shirts, riding gear, race team graphics and transporters, and more, during his time with the legendary brand. Now venturing out on his own with Groove Machine Inc., and independent art agency, Ushiroyama stopped by to reminisce his three-decade history in the sport.

With Doc's blessing, though, my life has returned to normal and I am stoked beyond belief. Sadly, I am way out of shape and still struggling with the after-effects of Covid, but a life on two wheels can't be beat!
