Michael BurnyeatFilmed in one take, I play in 30 different fiddle styles! Released on World Fiddle Day 2021! Hope you Enjoy.
Please forgive the occasionally glitchy video (final cut pro on my computer does that for whatever reason and it's impossible to get rid of) and some sloppy playing in the transitions between styles especially- it was all filmed in one take and because of the various tempos I had no click track and had to jump in as best I could to each style!
Here are the 30 styles listed in order of play: Scottish, Irish, French Canadian, Canadian Old-time, American Old-time, Métis, Cape-breton, Texas style, Bluegrass, Western Swing, English, Gypsy Jazz, Cajun, Country, Swedish, Klezmer, Prairie Canadian Old-time (Calvin Vollrath), West Coast, Contemporary, Ukrainian, New England, Breton, Blues, Shetland, Mariachi, Jazz, Maritimes, Choro, Folk (fiddle backup), Czech.
Here are the tunes I used for each style: Scottish- Highlander's Farewell to Ireland (trad) Irish- Killarney Boys of Pleasure (trad) French Canadian- Son of a Bear (Louis Beaudoin?) Canadian Old-time - Don Messor's Breakdown (Don Messor) American Old-time- Angeline the Baker (trad) Métis - Red River Jig (trad) Cape-breton - Miller of Drone (James Scott Skinner) Texas style- Tom and Jerry (trad) Bluegrass- Wheel Hoss (Bill Monroe) Western Swing- Faded Love (Bob, John, and Billy Jack Wills) English - In the Fields in Frost and Snow (trad) Gypsy Jazz- Lady Be Good (George and Ira Gershwin) Cajun- Cajun Fiddle (Don Rich, Buck Owens) Country - Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band) Swedish- Flippen (Vasen) Klezmer- Hopak Katsatske (trad) Prairie Canadian Old-time - Marg Cote Reel (Calvin Vollrath) West Coast- Flowers (Oliver Schroer) Contemporary- June Tune (Trent Freeman) Ukrainian- Arkan (trad) New England- Moneymusk (trad) Breton- Danse Andro (trad) Blues- [Generic 12-bar blues in G] Shetland- Spootiskerry (trad) Mariachi- Jesusita En Chihuahua Jazz- Misty (Erroll Garner) Maritimes- L'Acadienne (trad) Choro- Tico-Tico no fuba (Zequinha de Abreu) Folk fiddle backup (Standard folk song chord progression with fiddle improvisation- I wanted to represent how the main role of many fiddlers is accompanying singers/singer-songwriters, rather than simply playing instrumental tunes). Czech- Beer Barrel Polka (Jaromir Vejvoda)
