Mixed Media Play in my handmade Junk Art Journal ⭐ Watercolors, Inks & Collage Susanne Rose Art 2024-06-22 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a junk art journal spread using watercolors, acrylic inks, collage and some flowers and leaves from my Loose Florals stamp set. I am working in one of my handmade old book journals. I made them years ago with an old book cover and a lot of junky papers. I love to work in this journal whenever I have absolutely no idea what to create. I just blob down colors and go with the flow. I added some loose watercoloring to the spread and after these had dried I went in with some white gesso and applied this with my fingers. After this was dry I did some background stamping with images from Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6. I added Burnt Sienna and Prussian Blue acrylic ink to bring in more contrast.Whilst the ink was drying I prepared my focal point. I stamped images from our Loose Florals stamp set onto gelli prints using StazOn ink. This makes some amazing collage fodder. I used some of my handmade washi tape and a strip of old book paper to build a bottom where my flowers can grow out of. I am going to make some cool pocket folders that will hold some of my altered mixed media index cards I made in the past weeks. It's super easy to make and you don't need many fancy supplies. Of course these pockets can be used for many other projects as well. You can use them for happy mail or to store your collage ephemera or journaling supplies. It also might be a nice addition for your art or junk journals. Easy Art Journal Background with Neocolors and Collage ⭐ Mixed Media for Beginners Susanne Rose Art 2024-06-12 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with an art journaling video tutorial, perfect for beginners, using Neocolor II crayons to create a background and Collage Fodder made with our Sketchy Leaves stencils from gel prints.I started the background by adhering a few collage paper bits with a glue stick. I then primed the page with a thin layer of clear gesso. After this was dry I layed down Neocolor II crayons in warm pastel shades and blended the colours with my finger dipped into water. When the Neocolors get wet they are similar to gouache paint. I let this dry again and added a second layer with scribbles and marks using the Neocolors and a pencil. I wanted to push back the collage papers a bit more and also bring in more white space, so I used a white Art Graf Tailor shape crayon to apply some white. You could also use white acrylic paint or ink to do that. I also made some white splatters. For more interesst and texture on the background I stamped the text stamp from Mix It Up 4.My focal images are made from gelli prints and our Sketchy Leaves 1 and Sketchy Leaves 3 stencils. I adhered them on top of the stamped leaf from Pencil Marks 7. I stamped this directly to the spread with black StazOn ink. Unfortunately the Sketchy Leaves 3 stencil is already sold out, but we have a follow up set already, which is the Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil. I will link up the video on how to make the collage fodder at the end of this post!I finished the page by stamping a sentiment to the right and also to a separate piece of paper, which I adhered to the bottom left. Abstract Art Journal Tutorial with Inks, Mark Making and Collage Fodder - Quick and Fun! Susanne Rose Art 2024-05-25 | 🌞Hi everybody. I am sharing a new art journaling vide today which is perfect for beginners. I am using acrylic inks together with collage fodder and a bit of mark making in my art journal. If you don't have acrylic inks you can use watercolors instead! I am laying down the inks quite loosely and try to leave some white space to keep a high contrast. I picked inks in neon pink, magenta and yellow. For my focal point I was using collage fodder which I pick from my left over papers. I stamp some of them to bring in more interest. Loose Watercolors and Flowers in my Junk Journal - Mixed Media Art Tutorial Susanne Rose Art 2024-05-15 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a junk art journal spread using watercolors and some flowers and leaves from our brand new Loose Florals stamp set. I am working in one of my handmade old book journals. I made them years ago with an old book cover and a lot of junky papers. I love to work in this journal whenever I have absolutely no idea what to create. I just blob down colors and go with the flow. There was already a lot going on on the left page of my spread, so it did not take much time to finish the background. I added some loose watercoloring to the spread and after these had dried I went in with some white gesso and applied this with my fingers. After this was dry I did some background stamping with images from Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6. I added some Paynes Grey acrylic ink to bring in more contrast.Whilst the ink was drying I prepared my focal point. I stamped images from our Loose Florals stamp set onto gelli prints using StazOn ink. This makes some amazing collage fodder. I cut them out and adhered them to my spread. I added some extra color to the flower centers with acrylic markers.Here is a video on how I paint the kind of flowers you see on the left page. Vintage Junk Art Journal Page Tutorial with Mixed Media Stamps & Stencil Texture Susanne Rose Art 2024-05-08 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a mixed media art journal page tutorial in one of my handmade junk art journals using fluid acrylics, collage, mark making with our brand new Marks 3 stencil and some stamping with our new Mix It Up 6 stamp set. I started the background of this page by stamping the script image in black. I then added a layer of fluid acrylic paint in Burnt Sienna. After this was dry I stamped some more images from the Mix It Up 6 stamp set with Rusty Brown and added a bit of stenciling with black acrylic paint using our Marks 3 stencil. I adhered a few collage bits and made some splatters with Ivory acrylic ink. My focal image is the couple from the same stamp set. Art Journal Page for Beginners using Neocolor II Crayons Susanne Rose Art 2024-05-04 | 🌞Hi everybody. I am sharing a new art journaling video today which is perfect for beginners. I am using Neocolor II crayons in my journal from Action, combined with some handmade collage fodder and flowers from our brand new Loose Florals stamp set. I kept the colors fresh and bright with a lot of blue and green. If you don't have Neocolors you can use any other water-soluble crayon, such as Stabilo Woodys, Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, Distress Crayons or Gelatos.I used images of our brand new stamp release which is available in the shop and 10% until tomorrow, Sunday the 5th. Mixed Media Art Journal Collage from Paper Scraps - use your Collage Fodder Susanne Rose Art 2024-04-24 | 🌞Hi there, I am here with a mixed media art journal page tutorial in one of my small spiral bound sketchpads, using handmade collage papers, acrylc ink, mark making, stamping and collage fodder made with our Sketchy Leaves 3 stencil. I started this spread by adhering some of my handmade collage papers. I picked a lovely palette using turquoise, red and beige tones papers. I combine those with some black and white images to bring in contrast.I used some white gesso to blend the background and added acrylic ink in turquoise. I did some background stamping with images from Pencil Marks 1 and mark makings with a white Posca Pen and a red Neocolor. For more interest I made scibbles with a black Stabilo All pencil and added even more collage. I also made some white and black splatters to build more depth.I finished up the page with a botanical ephemera piece, made with the Sketchy Leaves 3 stencil. Easy Art Journal Tutorial - perfect for beginners - using Neocolor II Crayons Susanne Rose Art 2024-04-20 | 🌞Hi everybody. I am sharing a new art journaling vide today which is perfect for beginners. I am using Neocolor II crayons in my journal from Action (which has the same size as the Ranger Dylusions Art Journal), combined with some collage fodder and stamps from Pencil Marks 7. I kept the colors in pastel shades together with some black as contrast. Art Journal Tutorial for Beginners with Collage Fodder and Mixed Media Susanne Rose Art 2024-04-17 | 🌞Hi there,I'm sharing a mixed media art journal page tutorial using collage combined with acrylic inks for the background and flowers from our Pencil Marks 7 stamp set. I started this spread by adhering some of my handmade collage papers in blue shades. To get the best surface to work on top of with acrylic inks I coverd it with a thin layer of clear gesso. After this was dry I did some stamping with the bold leaf from Pencil Marks 7 and the ticket stamp from Mixed Media Marks 1. I then coloured the spread with acrylic inks in turquoise, prussian blue and white. While this was drying I prepared my flowers. I stamped them to a left over paint paper with black ink and cut them out. I got send some oil pastels from Lightwish to try them out. The oil pastels come in three different themed sets. I picked the Morandi one. As I already have a bunch of standard sets I wanted to have some more light and muted tones. In my Video I will talk about the Oil-Pastels and do some swatches. I also make a little comparison of this set to some other Oil-Pastel sets I have: Paul Rubens, Eberhardt Faber, Jaxon, Arrtx and Neopastels. Adding Colour with Soft Pastels and using Collage Fodder ⭐ Mixed Media Art Journal Tutorial Susanne Rose Art 2024-03-27 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a spread in my handmade junk art journal using collage, soft pastels, stamps and mark making. I'm decorating the pages with collage fodder made with our new Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil. A tutorial on how I made this is here: youtu.be/SENccg1xGt4I started the background of this page with different collage papers such as gelli prints and scrapbooking paper. I adhered the torn pieces with a glue stick and covered the whole spread with a layer of clear gesso and let it dry. I am using soft pastels together with water to bring in colour. If you don't have soft pastels you can use any other transparent medium, such as water-soluble pencils, Brushos, watercolors or acrylic inks. Once this was dry, I sprayed some fixative onto my background and then added a little bit of background stamping with images from Mixed Media Marks 1 and the bold leaf from Pencil Marks 7. To bring in more vibrancy I sprinkled acrylic ink in white and turquoise. Breaking the Blank Page with a Gel Print - Mixed Media Art Journal Page Tutorial Susanne Rose Art 2024-03-20 | 🌞Hi there, I'm making a spring inspired spread in art journal using gel prints, stencil texture, watercolors and some stamping. I am playing with our Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil and one image of the cute Textured Birds 2. I started the background of this page with some pieces of gel prints that I had in my stash. I adhered the torn pieces with a glue stick and covered the whole spread with a layer of clear gesso. I then stenciled some images of the Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil with black paint. Once this was dry I added a little bit of background stamping with stamps from Mixed Media Marks 1. To bring in some colour and interest I used the Art Graf Tailor Shape crayons. I'm sharing an abstract art journal collage in one of my cheap spiral bound sketchbooks today. I am using left over paint papers and stamped old book papers for collage. My focal images are the rainbow stamp from the Pencil Marks 3 stamp set and one or the Sketchy Leaves. I combined the collage with some white gesso, mark making and background stamping. Art Journal Page for Beginners with limited Supplies + I love the Art Journal from Action Susanne Rose Art 2024-02-28 | 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a beginner friendly art journaling tutorial testing an art journal from Action using collage, Distress Crayons and stamps from our new Pencil Marks 7 ( rubberdance.com/pencil-marks-7-clear.html ) stamp set. I am building an easy background with neutral paper scraps from old books, stationery supplies and some left over paint paper. If you don't have Distress Crayons you can substitute them perfectly with any kind of water-soluble crayon, I listed some below.I really enjoy this art journal, it's pretty simialar to the Dylusions Journal from Ranger. Of course the paper in the Ranger Sketchbook is better. Amazing Way to use Stencils for Gelli Printing ❤️🔥 Dont get paint on your Stencils! Susanne Rose Art 2024-02-22 | Hi there, Susanne here with a gelli printing video using stencil textures. The exciting thing is, that I am going to create the stencil patterns on the gel plate without getting any paint onto the stencil! Instead of using the stencil directly on the gel plate I am dry embossing a piece of heavy weight paper with the stencil in my die cutting machine. I am using a Sizzix Big Shot. I'm sharing a spread in my watercolor journal today, playing with collage, Brusho powders, stamps and some mark making. I am creating botanical collage elements with Brushos and my new Sketchy Leaves 4 Stencil Set. I also use the pigments powders to colour in my focal image, a little bird from my new Textured Birds 2 stamp set. For the botanical elements I used the Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil together with Brusho Powders. Making Collage Fodder with Distress Inks & Abstract Art Journal Page - Tutorial Susanne Rose Art 2024-02-10 | 🌞Hi everyone! I'm sharing a spread in one of my handmade junk art journals today, playing with acrylic paints, collage, stamps and some mark making. As my focal images I am using some handmade botanical collage fodder. I played with Distress Inks and my new Sketchy Leaves 4 Stencil Set. I used the masks of the stencil set together with the Distress Inks. As my mask were already covered with some dry paint I thought it might work good with the Inks, as the botanical images now had some grip to hold the ink.
