BPAs ultra-high-voltage lab sparks Frankenstein fantasies BonnevillePower 2022-10-27 | The late author Mary Shelley would be shocked if she visited Bonneville Power Administration’s ultra-high-voltage lab in Vancouver, Washington. BPA electrical engineers don’t have to wait for a passing lightning storm the way Dr. Frankenstein did, but instead have specialized equipment that can generate lightning impulses up to 5.6 million volts. Rather than creating a modern Prometheus, BPA’s lab tests equipment to help ensure the reliability of the Northwest’s high-voltage electric grid. Even when fires are hundreds of miles away, it's becoming more common to see alerts of poor air quality from ash and smoke. Public Meeting - Marys Peak BPA Communications Site Project (DOE/EA-2050) BonnevillePower 2020-11-06 | BPA, USFS, and BLM held a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, October 28 from 6:30 - 8pm.The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) needs to maintain and upgrade the existing BPA communications site located at Marys Peak, approximately 15 miles southwest of Corvallis, in Benton County, Oregon. Some communications equipment at the site is outdated or unstable and needs to be replaced, and the site needs a more reliable back-up power source due to potential power outages. Chum salmon spawning in the Columbia River Gorge BonnevillePower 2019-12-02 | BPA and its federal partners use the flexibility of the Columbia River Power System to ensure threatened chum salmon have enough water to spawn in the estuary. Even during dry falls, the federal agencies bring water stored hundreds of miles up river to the estuary to ensure salmon redds remain submerged. The operation also allows the river to be deep enough so fish can make it into side channels and creeks to spawn. This video is of Hamilton Creek in the Gorge.

Columbia River System Operations Draft Environmental Impact Statement update BonnevillePower 2019-05-16 | The US Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the Bonneville Power Administration are midway through a multi-year effort to update a plan for long-term system operations, maintenance, and configuration of the Columbia River System. This presentation is to help keep the region informed on the status of the CRSO EIS process.The draft EIS is scheduled to be released for public comment February of 2020.
