Static Blooming Beneath a Sun of Dust | Instrumental Metal Guitar Playthrough (High Z Productions) High Z Productions 2025-09-23 | This is a guitar playthrough of “Static Blooming Beneath a Sun of Dust”, an instrumental metal track written in Phrygian Dominant. Playing in this scale — and exploring related modes — is an incredibly fun and creative experience for guitarists, because it opens up dark, exotic, and mysterious tonalities that aren’t common in standard minor or major scales. The tension and release, the unusual interval jumps, and the melodic possibilities make it a playground for both rhythm and lead guitar.This song was inspired in part by the Ibanez PIA3761, whose feel, tone, and playability helped shape the riffs and melodic ideas. From the tight, resonant low strings to the smooth, singing leads, the guitar practically writes part of the song on its own.Some ideas I used in writing this song included the Phrygian Dominant mode for the opening open string idea. I wanted to use heavy yet simple rhythm riffs and soaring melodic leads together to make something both easily listenable and heavy in a fun way.
