embark - hyquo (entry for Austin Wintorys 2023 contest) 【ORIGINAL】 hyquo 2023-12-07 | This is an entry for a song contest hosted by composer Austin Wintory, the details of which can be found here: youtube.com/watch?v=lpzRk6NF1KQ'embark' is an inquisitive and adventurous vgm-style theme following the first steps of a hero's journey. It starts with an ostinato bell figure (using the notes set by the contest challenge, in sequence) on top of a warm acoustic guitar, outlining a bright Ab lydian sound. A flute plays on its lonesome. As the track goes on, more parts come in to support the flute. The tonality and rhythm also evolve to signify curiosity, hesitance, and excitement, ramping up in energy while maintaining lightness. This track represents hope in new beginnings.I didn't go super crazy with interpreting the prompt and I think that keeps in line with my general approach to music. Although I did use the notes from the prompt for first half of the piece, I adapted it further to fit the different sections as they changed throughout the track. I mostly let the melodies and emotion speak in this piece which explains the multiple time and key changes. I did keep it mostly simple outside of that but I love a good key change especially when I have to find a way back to the home key. Their character, Anton Baskerville, is a relative of Klint and Barok van Zieks', through Lady Baskerville, and was described to me as cheerful but hiding a lof of sadness. The theme was to be orchestral and include bells as a prominent instrument, as well as a harpsichord to establish a link to van Zieks. INKY Cephaloparade (KPOP-style Remix) - Splatoon hyquo 2022-08-07 | i THINK that i'm INKY~ .................................yes it's true, i'm kpop trash wow who would've guessed (literally anyone who knows me lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll) but even though i've been a fan of ITZY for a while now, i can't believe it took me this long to put together the fact that their "noise music" style goes HAND IN HAND with the OST of Splatoon -- particularly Turquoise October. and once i did come to this realisation OF COURSE i had to see it come to fruition, hence what you see and hear here........ for those whose brains have not been infected (good on you LMAO) and don't know what's going on here, i suggest checking out the song ICY by ITZY, since it was the reference track for this one and i basically copied all of it HAHAhaha.......... i couldn't NOT do it, ICY and Cephaloparade are literally in the same key it's uncanny. anyways i obviously had a LOT of fun with this one. kpop has inspired a lot of my recent work so it was a blast to really lean into it for this one! i will say (as if i haven't already lol) SPLATOON TRACKS ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO TRANSCRIBE AND ARRANGE LOLLLLLLLL it's always such a challenge when i tackle splatoon stuff but it's so fun and cathartic to overcome it. in Cephaloparade particularly, there are so many little detailed lines to weave in and out of each other, like the trumpets and the filtered electric guitar. i tried my hardest to capture it all and adapt it to the style and interestingly i didn't do much changing of the melodies since it all slotted together quite well. so i hope you appreciate it!!!!!!As always, thanks everyone for the ongoing support, I hope I haven't exposed myself too much here ahahaha....... This theme was written for their boyfriend’s anxious Marshtomp character named Shiron!I had such a blast writing this one. As soon as Sparkfire approached me (a lovely repeat customer, might I add!) to ask for a theme for their boyfriend’s Pokémon character, I knew I just had to lean in to the PMD inspiration -- you can probably hear "Heartwarming" and "Time to Set Out" in particular. I'm never disappointed whenever I commission him and this time was no different! But I got outta my head to finish it off and after absolutely adoring Victifreak's lovely work over the years, I thought him perfect for finally encapsulating this track of mine. And I'm pretty proud of it all now, to say the least!If you couldn't already tell, this was very inspired by Pokemon Mystery Dungeon ahaha. I've always admired the unconventional harmonic structures and instrumentation in these soundtracks and as I began writing this it obviously felt like the right fit to lean into it. Add onto it some odd time signatures and of course I had a blast tackling this adventurous theme! I wanted to see if I could tell a story with this one, having a generally quirky adventure type style and then balancing it with something more serious. The light jaunty feel of the main sections represents soaring energy, hence 'Skybound', while the dark breakdown towards the end of the loop represents the remains of a lost civilisation, hence 'Ruins'. Uncovered Investigation ~ Core 2001 (Remix) - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney hyquo 2022-04-24 | Time to bring it back to the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and get down to core of the investigation!Investigation ~ Core 2001 has got to be one of the highlights of the Ace Attorney soundtracks and it never fails to get me into that feeling that the case is starting to come together and things are getting intense. It's always been a want of mine to tackle this theme for a remix and so I'm glad I finally did. I had a blast working on this one, especially since I honestly think this is some of my best music production work I've done! I really like how the original track starts tense with the bassline but it still gives off a sense of un-grounded-ness as it dances around the minor pentatonic scale. And then the sweeping synth pads come in to add more of that floaty feeling until the percussion hits hard and the emotional chord progression enters. This particular chord sequence is actually quite common in the Ace Attorney series or at least in the original trilogy -- something I've discovered through transcribing tracks for these remixes. I really quite enjoy the progression so I thought I'd give it a highlight in the first drop with the bass guitar. Then of course, the track only grows from there, especially at the mid point which I had so much fun working in to the structure here.Thanks everyone for the support. Bombardier Beetle Original Orchestral Battle Theme by sheddy 【COMMISSION】 hyquo 2022-03-13 | This track was commissioned by Vernal, also known as sendingstone! They approached me asking for a battle theme for their original character, wraith hunter and pirate, Argent Vendell-Regor!Vernal told me some really cool things about Argent that were immediately inspiring for the theme I was to write for the character, namely that he was a beetle centaur with locust wings, and that I should reflect that in the music. They also stipulated a fast and ominous feeling, using the fiddle as a lead instrument, most probably relating to Argent's hunter/pirate background. Going on from that, I decided to include the accordion as a partner to the violin. The buzzy timbre of the accordion reminded me of cicadas and locusts, and using it to duel with the violin felt to me like representing the two sides of Argent being a beetle centaur. I also tried my best to include an arc in this theme -- the latter section adds a bit more determination and emotional quality reflecting perseverance. In terms of references, the orchestral backing has a bit of influence from Octopath Traveler, while the violin/accordion lead definitely reminds one of the Layton series. Catnip Woods - hyquo (sheddy) 【ORIGINAL】 hyquo 2022-01-09 | A cute little track encompassing the joys of playing with a cat!This track was made for Audio Secret Santa '21. I received demisemihemidemisemiquaver's request which specifically asked for something to "represent the thrill and sincerity of attaching tongs to a cat's face", and I chose to interpret this by incorporating samples of cats and tongs. It was also suggested to be written in the style of Mark Sparling's "A Short Hike" OST, so the track frames the concept around a VGM-style wooded area theme.This was my first time participating in the Audio Secret Santa and it was an absolute blast. I think I got pretty lucky with this prompt that was immediately inspiring. Straight away I thought about recording percussion with some tongs laying around at home and gathering cat noises! chromatic Calamari Inkantation (2nd Remix) - Splatoon 【NEW YEAR SPECIAL】 hyquo 2021-12-31 | squid sisters theme but it's 192 bpm and changes key constantlyHappy New Year everyone! 2022 is pretty much here and you know what that means -- Splatoon 3 is just around the corner! I've been wanting to do a high energy arrangement of Calamari Inkantation for a long time, since my old rendition of the theme is so subdued and very, let's say, indicative of my skill level at the time haha... So! I set out to inject every bit of energy I had into this new take on the theme, all in a short-and-sweet 2 minute package!I think you'll find a lot of inspiration from Japanese producers here, particularly those with fast-paced tracks featured on rhythm games and such, so lots of influence from hardcore, artcore, and drum 'n' bass (although I would not call this artcore in the slightest, defo more DnB!). The main idea with my approach here was to make the original theme a bit more complex and dynamic, since even though it's a bop, Calamari Inkantation is quite (purposefully) simple. I really wanted to stretch the limits of not only the theme but also my skills as a musician as well, and I like to think I did just that. The Splatoon series and this theme in particular mean so much to me so I hope you all appreciate every little twist and turn I wrote to make this piece the rollercoaster that it is!Thank you everyone for your ongoing patience and support with me this past year! other Battle! VS Giratina (2nd Remix) - Pokémon Platinum 【HALLOWEEN SPECIAL】 hyquo 2021-10-31 | Happy Halloween everyone! It's spooky season so I thought it'd be cool to revisit a classic spooky track -- Giratina's battle theme. This mix is featured in the 2021 Pokémon Halloween Megamix, which you can find here: youtube.com/watch?v=5bSeRmxUEbsI'd always been fond of this theme for how amazingly intense and unsettling it is. I also really enjoyed what I managed to do with the theme when I first remixed it in 2015, and I thought revisiting it for Halloween this year would be fun. This time, I deviated from the darkness of the original by adding an upbeat mood to it but I still wanted to include some grit, with some spooky drops. To be honest, originally I wasn't too satisfied with how it panned out and kept getting frustrated trying to restructure the track to be cohesive. The compositional choices in each section of this track are so starkly different that it was hard to get the balance right, though I think I got there in the end. It does lead to the track being a little disorienting but it's Giratina, it's gotta be a little disorienting ahaha! VS Mari-p0ser Original Drum n Bass Battle Theme by sheddy 【COMMISSION】 hyquo 2021-10-04 | This track was commissioned by Madam Merluvli! She approached with her original character concept Mari-p0ser asking for a battle theme that matched her energetic personality!From what I was told, Mari-p0ser is a cheerful DJ with drum 'n' bass as her performance genre, hence the DnB style in this theme! Some other important elements were definitely the major butterfly symbols and striking colours in her design. I chose to include a repeated ostinato figure in the harp to represent to majesty of the butterflies, with plenty of up-and-down movement to mimic the flapping of wings. I also tried to include as many references to the character's DJ persona as well, using scratchy fx as transitions into new sections. The choppiness in the breakdown towards the end of the loop is a reference to this as well, but also ties in with Mari-p0ser's mechanical legs going haywire as the battle moves on. It was a challenge linking all these elements together but I think I did a good job with it in the end! Reminiscence ~ An Ashen Waltz (Remix) - The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles 【COMMISSION】 hyquo 2021-09-20 | The Great Ace Attorney is finally out in the West, and I know I'm a little late to the party, but that's because I've been busy finishing the two games myself! I will always very much appreciate the soundtrack of this series and what better way to celebrate than with an arrangement. There are some big hits in the OST (which I'll get to someday!) but the lesser known tracks also deserve appreciation, and I was so glad to have someone commission me to do just that! This piece was commissioned by ProPinkist, a big fan of the character to which this particular theme pertains to. When she approached me with the request, the main points to note were: upbeat, emotional, and acoustic. Another key point was the music box/celeste sound, as it's such an important part of the original track and also hold significant meaning for the case in which the theme plays.Immediately, my mind went to Professor Layton! And you can definitely tell I've drawn some major inspiration from the main Layton theme here; from the style, down to the instrumentation. I think it fits really well with the theme, and obviously I took my own liberties with it as well, with lots of cool solos in line with the Latin jazz style.I'm super proud with how it turned out, and I had an amazing time working on it, even though it took a little longer than expected given I'm not too experienced with this kind of feel. Snowfield Island Original Orchestral Snowy Area Theme by sheddy 【COMMISSION】 hyquo 2021-07-10 | This piece was commissioned by Sparkfire! They approached me asking for a VGM-style location theme for their blizzarding island setting. "Snowfield Island is an isolated northern location, adorned with ancient ruins and occasionally struck by violent blizzards. Snowfield also houses a passage to Lugia’s domain, and is enshrouded in a veil of mystery." I had a great time working on this commission, especially since I had the chance to use some grand orchestral sounds to give off that adventurous vibe. I really wanted to express the cold emptiness of the location in the piano and bells, as well as referencing the island's ruins and overall mysterious feeling in the shanai-like instrument. There's also a very small reference to Lugia's song in the repeated piano motif, not big enough to notice but nonetheless something I consciously included. Hyper Factor Jigglypunk! (DnB Remix) - Pokémon Masters hyquo 2020-08-08 | Pokémon Masters has such an amazing soundtrack and I've wanted to tackle something from it for a while. And then, this gem of a track came out and as soon as I heard it in game, I knew I just had to mix it!I'm one of the people that actually enjoys playing this game. Although I understand the criticisms, I think it's come a long way since release and it's full to the brim with charm from one of my personal highlights of the Pokémon series, its characters! 秋の風が吹きところ ~ Eastern Valley (ZUN-Style Arrangement) - March with Me hyquo 2020-07-30 | So this is an interesting upload... Not from a game but an arrangement of an original theme by a very good friend of mine, Emdasche! I've always admired his work and was obsessed when he released his original VGM concept album 'March with Me' way back in 2018. I knew I had to cover something from it, and it's been a long time coming but it's finally here!______________________Before Emdasche released this album, he sent some tracks over to me to give some feedback, and I immediately fell in love. Each track brought something fresh to the table and absolutely beautifully showcased his talent in creating pieces that told their own stories and translated well into a video-game landscape. I feel like what I've got here could be an early stage theme, and I hope I've done the style justice, even without the particular sounds that ZUN uses.I know this probably came out of left field, but honestly if you expect anything particular from me at this point, you are sorely mistaken! Base Inkvader Ink Me Up by the Squid Sisters (Remix) - Splatoon hyquo 2019-12-31 | The Squid Sisters have taken a bit of a back seat to the rise of Off the Hook, but that doesn't mean their tracks are any less fresh! ________________________Ink Me Up is a super fun track and I always loved hearing it during Splatfests in the original Splatoon, and when it came back to feature in Splatoon 2's Final Fest, I was thrilled. It's got some great lines that pop in and out, not to mention the chip sounds it uses, overall making for a super energetic and playful theme. I also find it really interesting that Ink Me Up is actually the ONLY Squid Sister track that doesn't reference or get referenced in another track. How cool is that?The whole concept of how I approached this remix is simply how similar it is to KPP's Invader Invader. Reminiscence ~ Bitter Taste of Truth (Remix) - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials & Tribulations hyquo 2019-09-30 | "I knew it from the very beginning. The truth is, the only person I could never find it in my heart to forgive... ...was me."___________________________________It's been a long while since my last Ace Attorney remix, more than a year in fact. I feel bad, but it wasn't because I didn't want to, but because I couldn't squeeze it in, especially with how sparse the first half of this year was. Nevertheless, this one's here now and I had an absolute blast making it! Please enjoy my take on the final reminiscence theme of the original trilogy, 'The Bitter Taste of Truth'.This theme is absolutely powerful, coming in the final case of the third game of the trilogy. And it hits hard when the truth of the case comes out. The greatness of this track isn't recognised, but as with most reminiscence themes in the series, it's still pretty underrated. I've wanted to take on this theme for a while now, but I never had an exact picture of what I wanted to do with it, and this still held true when I started working on this remix. As I started though, I knew I really wanted to take that recurring pattern halfway through the track and make it a throughline motif within my rendition. And it really worked I think!This mix is still very much me trying to experiment with a bunch of synth design, and as with some of my other works, is inspired by Shibayan's style. Super fun bass work and punchy percussion, as well as some shredding leads, means I'm pretty pumped to get this one out and sounding good! Compositionally, I changed up the harmony quite a bit, but I still kept some of the original's Dorian modal interchange here and there. I especially enjoyed writing the solo towards the end, there's a small reference in there if you keep you ears open!Thank you all for the ongoing support, especially the Ace Attorney fans, who've been starved of content from me for over a year now! I absolutely adored this theme when I first heard as it came paired with the v4.0 trailer and I've been wanting to tackle it with a remix ever since. I went with a pretty boppy approach with this one. The original track has some really nice hooks and super interesting harmony, so I wanted to see if I could keep some of that energy but still play around with it in my own way. I ended up really liking changing up the chords and shifting the piece to a more EDM feel just to bring even more energy to the forefront. Despite changing it up a bit, I still think I managed to capture the original and I hope you guys feel that way too!I actually made this one a while ago, but I felt like holding onto it just so I could get my grounding on the remix game again. Data Overflow Shark Bytes (Remix) - Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion hyquo 2019-02-02 | Finally tackling an Octo Expansion remix -- so wave your tentacles in the air and get ready to jam!_______________________________Hey everyone! It's about time I took on an Octo Expansion track and I did not hold back! When I first heard Shark Bytes in the game, it got me so hyped up and definitely was a standout track, so I knew I just had to remix it! The pumpin' bass line and the lovely glitchy synth work, as well as that wonderful banjo(?), makes for a very exciting track, even for Off the Hook standards! I hope you enjoy my take on it!I was definitely super pumped to amplify this track, and that started with the bass. I took some (quite obvious) inspiration from a few Shibayan Touhou remixes to really get down on the gritty bass and punchy percussion. I absolutely had a blast writing every bass and drum pattern, even if they did take a lot of mind power. As fate would have it, the recent Off the Hook live came out as I was working on this mix, so I definitely took a few notes from that performance as well, although I did try to keep it closer to the in-game version. I had some particular trouble with sound design while working this mix. Things just weren't quite sounding right and on top of that I had to adapt the original vocal lines into something that worked in this context. But I think it turned out alright, and I'm really proud of what I have here! Thanks for all the support everyone! I really wanted to get this one out in January, but alas time went on without me. Your train will arrive in due time, so sit and listen to your surroundings and take life as it comes.____________________________________Stationary was created for my first year Interactive Composition university course, as part of my second semester portfolio. It combines field recording with musical material, to convey the feeling of waiting. The harmony is comprised of quartal and quintal intervals to prevent strong harmonic movement, reflecting the state of patience initiated by uncontrollable forces. The piece uses self-collected samples from Melbourne train stations to immerse listeners into a public transport environment. As you guys may know, I quite like using atmospheric and environmental sounds as soundscape texture, so I really enjoyed making this track. I had a blast going out to train stations and just recording sounds. It felt really relaxing, and it's something that I want to try to keep doing for future projects. I especially enjoyed listening to each recording to figure out which ones to use, it felt like I was reliving the day that I had recorded them. And since I don't drive, public transport has been a big part of my life, and I think this piece really helps convey that. It's quite important to me in that I made it for my first year of uni, which I can only go forward from now!I really want to thank you all so much for all the support! River Rhythm The Riverlands (Remix) - Octopath Traveler hyquo 2018-12-17 | This game is a gem. I spent so much time with Octopath Traveler, so I thought I'd show my appreciation for it with a remix! Please enjoy!__________________________________Hey everyone! You probably didn't exactly expect this coming but I just had to tackle something from Octopath. The soundtrack is amazing, and the game is no less amazing. When I first played, I chose Alfyn, and walking out to the Riverlands and hearing this overworld theme was bliss. Approaching this theme, I really wanted to use these choppy string pads that sound throughout the mix. I have no idea why, but I liked how it sounded and it just fit right with the tin whistle lead. Then came the guitar which took the place of the piano in the original, thought it'd make it sound more intimate. The theme originally struck me as super familiar, and I realised it reminded me of Through the Sea of Time from PMD:Explorers and so I think some of the approach from my own remix of that theme crept in here too. The intro bit was the last thing I wrote for this mix and it's my favourite part, since I think it really ties the whole track together. Pewter City Theme (Remix) - Pokémon: Lets Go, Pikachu/Eevee hyquo 2018-12-03 | I'm not usually one to jump onto trends, but I've been meaning to remix something Pokémon, and what better to source from than the recent Let's Go games. If you didn't know already, for the past few months, I've been EXTREMELY busy with uni, but it's done for the year now, so I can finally roll out some content for you all. I wasn't exactly the most keen on the Let's Go games, but I wanted to stray away from making any strong opinions about the games until I got to try them out for myself. And now that I have, I have to say... my opinion is pretty much the same, if not maybe slightly better. I liked it, but there are definitely some things in there I'm not sold on, however I do have to say I quite enjoy the capture system - I'd like to see it integrated in some way with the wild battle system in future games for sure. The music in these games was one thing I was unsure about. Of course, the orchestration and arrangements are fresh and definitely exciting to hear, but in MY opinion, the constant strings and whatnot left it feeling static, at least to me. When the soundtrack did bring in new instruments though, it really worked magic. I'm not the greatest fan of the Kanto soundtrack to be quite honest. The tracks are definitely iconic and catchy though and Pewter's theme is usually one of the themes that comes right to me when I think of Kanto - although I do prefer the HG/SS bossa nova rendition of the theme.In terms of this remix, I wanted to go for something light and cute, just like the games, but I also wanted to ramp up the energy a bit. There's some light inspiration from Sonic, as well as a DnB track by ginkiha called Neon tetra (especially in those piano chords). The composition is pretty simple, I stayed quite true to the original, although some of the chords are different and the accompanying lines have slightly different rhythms. I had fun with this, especially with the cries of Pikachu and Eevee, voiced by the amazing Ikue Ohtani and Aoi Yuuki respectively.I hope you enjoy! Don't just ignore meeeeee!"________________________________________________Finally another Ace Attorney remix! The date for Ron's theft trial was a few days ago but that's in the Japanese version - in western releases it's in October, so I'm not late!! I definitely had heaps of fun with this one though, the Mask☆DeMasque theme is a pretty cool piece and I wanted to bring out its flavour in a remix!If you hear a hint of M2U in here then that's no coincidence! I thought that this style would be perfect to work with Mask☆DeMasque and I think I did a good job if I do say so myself. I always heard this theme, even through its DS synth sounds, as an accordion and violin piece and listening to the official orchestra version (although sans accordion) furthered this feeling. I had a great time writing those parts and then playing around with the piano chords and the beat. I also used the harpsichord for the accompanying parts because it seemed so obvious to pair it with the violin. Thanks for sticking it out with me! I know it has been a while since the last upload and that's in part due to uni getting a bit busy and me taking on a lot of projects, but also there was a bout of laziness/demotivation -- but! Something New Fresh Start (Remix) - Splatoon 2 【SPLATOON 2 ANNIVERSARY】 hyquo 2018-07-23 | Happy 1st anniversary Splatoon 2! I know I'm a little bit late, but I couldn't quit out on the Splatfest now could I. In celebration of Splatoon 2's first birthday, please enjoy my take on the Squid Sisters' comeback single 'Fresh Start'! _______________________________________________________Now I know that the Octo Expansion is a thing, and I will get there eventually, I just wanted to really take time to acknowledge the other pretty good single-player campaign Octo Canyon. Fresh Start really hits home the idea of the sisters reuniting and as the original credits theme for Splatoon 2, I thought it fitting of the anniversary celebration! It doesn't help that I was also on Team Squid this Splatfest and we WON!I really love this track. Not only is it a great track in its own right, it even includes very blatant references to the sisters' respective singles (and of course their breakout hit, Calamari Inkantation)! There are some very interesting bits of composition to mesh the two quite differing themes together, and I think it works super well. It's such a great track, to the point where I kinda teared up the first time watching the live performance of it!I decided to stick very close to the source here, since I really wanted to capture the feel of the original tying Callie and Marie together. The structure is basically the same aside from the extended intro (stripped right from the live version), and a final chorus encore of sorts. Pretty fun to work with the panning that the original does with Callie and Marie's voices, and I even self-referenced my own renditions of their themes for that part. It was very interesting to transcribe -- some of those accompanying lines while they add so much they were quite difficult to pin down, and there was some pretty cool chords in there including the G#/Ab major chord that is super interesting in a D major piece. I definitely added my own flavour there as well, so I really hope you enjoy!Splatoon 2 has been pretty amazing to say the least. I'm still addicted to this day and I don't see it stopping any time soon. The Octo Expansion has got some pretty standout tracks, so I will tackle at least one or two in the future. The loveliest rose can hide the cruelest thorn..."________________________________________________________Hey everyone! I bet you weren't expecting this so soon! I usually try to get the trilogy's themes on at specific dates, but I tackled Dahlia's theme and just had to keep going and finish! And I'm pretty sure no one will be disappointed with this! This theme is absolutely beautiful, and is the perfect theme for the character that is Dahlia Hawthorne. It's so ethereal but is both pretty and unsettling. And the juxtaposition of its beauty with the one of the most villainous characters in the series is just amazing. There are a lot of calmer renditions of the track, and so I really wanted to reflect the evil nature of Dahlia and the urgent atmosphere of the entirety of Bridge to the Turnabout.I had a blast with this one, especially in terms of adapting the melody. Really loved working with the orchestra palette here, as well as using the acoustic guitar and some world instruments. I really wanted the track to feel urgent and heavy but also provide moments of calm to fit with the source. The ethnic instruments give off an interesting feel to it, whilst also referring to Dahlia's connection to the Fey family. Thanks everyone for watching! This time, it's my first orchestral track on the channel and it was actually made back in February, as a contribution to the Megamix Creative Collective, where a bunch of the Megamix community demonstrate their musical skills in original tracks as opposed to the usual remixing -- you can check that out right here: youtube.com/watch?v=jtqRbCibS2UThe theme for this track, if you couldn't already tell, was fire. At first I tried to take the theme head on, trying to signify fire's heat, energy and destructive nature, but it didn't work out very well, so I decided to step back and try something else. So I thought about the spirit of a flame, and how fire can also be benevolent instead of destructive, it can be a spark of hope or a source of warmth. That's what begun the piece. I wanted to represent the flame coming from within, our determination and human spirit, and I'm fairly certain that uplifting energy shows in the piece. Compositionally, I went for rising and falling runs in the melody to show the rise and fall of a flickering flame, and very forward moving chord progressions to represent the momentum of the flame. I'm pretty bad at explaining it, but I hope it comes across well in the music! Thank you all so much for all the support yet again! Feel the Heat Reversal Mountain (Remix) - Pokémon Black 2/White 2 hyquo 2018-06-16 | This remix is part of AlmightyArceus' 2018 Pokémon Summer Megamix! I started this remix last year to participate in last year's summer megamix but I didn't get it done on time, so I set it aside to finish for this year's! I posted a WIP of it some while ago in a WIP compilation, and people seemed to like it, so I was pretty pumped to finish it off - please enjoy~Definitely had a great time with this theme, or themes, I should say, since it has two from Black 2 AND White 2, of which I love both. I decided to tackle both of them in the one remix, taking my own creative liberties of course, and I think both themes are reflected quite well. The calmer nature of the Black version comes through with the more mellow sections and the instrumentation of piano, bells, and of course the pan flute, while the energetic feel of the White version comes through in later sections with the syncopated rhythms and brass instrumentation. I made sure to quote both versions' melodies as well, even from about the same timestamp of the original! Overall, I really liked transforming this piece into a summer bop, especially since it is the theme of a volcano after all!Thanks for all the ongoing support everyone, it means so much to see the channel get so much love, especially since I'll be posting a bit more often than I have been so far. Right to Defend Cross Examination ~ 2016 (Remix) - PW:AA - Spirit of Justice hyquo 2018-05-29 | Here's that Ace Attorney as promised! Enjoy!_______________________________________________________Boy, it's been a while since the last AA remix, so I'm glad I could push this one out this month. I've been toying with the SoJ testimony theme for a while now, and I really like the original track, especially the fact that it's written in 6/4 for the sixth installment in the main series. Regardless, I stripped that 6/4 down to 4/4 while extending the melody to an 8 beat figure instead, putting a lot more energy behind it. Really wanted to reflect the Khura'in side of things while maintaining a hard electro feel, and I think I pulled it off! I also really liked the organ in the source track so I just had to use it in the remix as well! Regarding composition, I liked incorporating both moderato and allegro versions by using their respective keys, and I also liked adding the small reference to the transition section to end the piece. In terms of mixing, I'm not overly satisfied with it since I'm still not too great at harder electronic stuff, but I think it sounds pretty decent I guess.Thanks everyone for the ongoing support, especially the AA crowd, dealing with AA infrequency. Sea-P-U Blitz It! by the Chirpy Chips (Remix) - Splatoon 2 hyquo 2018-04-29 | Check out the wonderful Chirpy Chips artwork by slypeorli! twitter.com/slypeorli/status/976290242025041921____________________________________So, Splatoon 2's v3.0 update just hit and I'm honestly chuffed, especially with Callie back in the Tentakeel Outpost, the return Camp Triggerfish, lovely new gear and weapon variants, and, of course, THE MUSIC! When I first watched the trailer from the direct, I immediately recognised the signature Chirpy Chips sound and fell in love, which resulted in what lies before you right now!Super stoked that the Chirpy Chips (I still prefer their Japanese name ABXY) returned with TWO hot new track! Blitz It!/Chip Damage was definitely my favourite of the two though, with super high energy and that AMAZING chiptune solo. And so, in remixing, I opted for DnB, because I wanted to keep up that high energy and lovely chip aesthetic, despite my inexperience with the genre, and I think it worked out wonderfully. I definitely loved transcribing the chip solo, and was really intrigued by the chord choices in the original track, especially the sus chord at the end of the solo which was just asking for me to add a key change! I'm really happy I got this one out, I enjoyed making it and I hope you all enjoy listening! I'd like to thank slypeorli for letting me use their artwork, it looks super great and fits so well! I also can't believe the support on this channel, especially for the Splatoon content, because I'm absolutely obsessed with Splatoon! That being said, I have been neglecting my other circles as of late, so hopefully, I'll get something Ace Attorney related out the next time round!
