AVOID Covid19 with this key! Cactus! workshop 2020-05-10 | Stay safe with this easy to make key! Here is how I forged it out of steel but it should be very easy to do with aluminium! Definitely a nice way to use your workshop. Make them for others! Help against #covid19 :) DIY solutions have always been the best. And wash your hands! :D As you can see I made a double hook in this key instead of just a normal one. This helps to reach tight spacers or handles. Also the thumb support is great when you are pushing. And definitely it is super easy to hold hanging in your pocket, so it's not a pain to grab it to open something! Very easy to use.This is a great homemade gadget to avoid touching handles or knobs that might have been infected. Good for drawers, buttons and switches also! My 2x72 Belt Grinder from Scrap Cactus! workshop 2019-12-07 | I was tired of my cheap belt sander stopping whenever I pushed anything against it so I got serious!. I improvised this 2x72 belt grinder mostly with scraps and parts I had laying around. (I did buy the belts though :D)As it was totally improvised, I didn't follow any drawings, just checked other belt grinders on youtube. That is probably why I fail a few times during the process. Demolition Hammer Restoration Cactus! workshop 2019-10-27 | I had this rusty cross peen hammer laying around and it was mainly used to bust concrete floors. It was covered in dirt and the handle was just a poorly crafted branch. Time to change that!It seems to be very good steel, so I decided to give it a new life and try a proper tool restoration! I cleaned the faces and built a new handle with the help of my friends Fran and Sergio (Thanks guys!) the shou sugi ban thing came out very nice! Reproducing a 700 Y/O pattern with a CNC (X-Carve) - and making a cabinet! Cactus! workshop 2019-04-28 | I've always been fascinated by these arabic/islamic patterns ever since I saw them in Alhambre when I was a kid. They are super interesting on lattice work, as they create a great see-through effect. I wanted to make a cabinet with something like this so here it is!. Creating the vector version of this geometry was a very interesting challenge and in the end the design turned out great! The x-carve of course did a great job!! So in the end is a great mix of woodworking and technology featuring a really old design that I am super happy with. Well, nylon melts under this laser beam instead of burning and evaporating, so it is hard to create a consistent groove. Additionally the heat bends the pick. On top of that each pick was a different thickness so I just couln't set up the machine to get it right because the next pick was different. How to make reversible bench dogs Cactus! workshop 2016-05-21 | Here is how I made some dogs that can also be flush with the work surface. I only have a workbench and I don't want to lose parts through the dog holes so I came up with this simple solution that works for all situations. I made some of them to test the concept for planing wood, but I will use them as well with metal pieces or whatever comes down the road. You can always make them out of wooden dowels too. My shitty chisels are shitty enough so I decided to give them a better place to start treating them better. With some pallet wood and scraps I built this simple rack. How to make your own hairpin legs and almost fail at the tabletop Cactus! workshop 2016-02-25 | Ok so this is the story: Back in Jan2016 I spent a few days in Istanbul. Totally awesome. I got that pre-finished trunk slice for a ridiculous (low) amount of Turkish Liras and took it back home. The mold that grew over the 2 weeks that the wood spent inside that plastic bag should have warned me about about what was about to come. Madrid is way drier than Istanbul. Make a stamp from recycled materials Cactus! workshop 2016-01-30 | I took one of those mainstream rubbers I found, a wooden marble, an aluminum disk and some other spare parts and made my own cactus stamp. Not without failing a couple of times during the process, of course :D It is probably overcomplicated but I wanted to test my "new" lathe. Industrial table from reclaimed materials Cactus! workshop 2015-12-23 | I needed a better stand for the drillpress so I rebuilt this table with the structure of a sawing machine table that was quite randomly put together. Except for the hardware, the rest of materials are scraps and pallet boards I had around. It came out quite vintage and industrial!I am not an expert welder so I am probably doing a lot of things wrong :D***Take a moment to think before welding inside a woodshop, it's not the best idea. I was extremely careful and had extinguishers on hand just in case!! Upcycled parquet table Cactus! workshop 2015-10-04 | The wooden structure was laying on a sidewalk in Valencia, it looks like it had a marble top, probably broken and the owners decided to get rid of it. We were lucky to find it having a walk and it waited for us to pick it with the car. After travelling to Madrid I made this wooden top, parquet style / chevron, whatever. I didn't bother sanding it totally flat, I think it adds personality to the scratched structure.
