Ghostbusters - Commodore 64 - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2024-06-08 | Rising from the wreckage of the Video Game Crash of 1983, Ghostbusters was among the first licenced titles to follow the infamous E.T., unlike that one this was universally praised for its translation of one of the biggest films of 1984, at least here in its original Commodore 64 release. Designed by David Crane, founder of Activision and creator of Pitfall, Little Computer People, and countless others, it was not only important in terms of licencing at that time, but it was among the first to show off what the 64 could do, as most games on the system prior to this had been ports. We'll play and win, discuss my thoughts, and read from any magazine materials I could get my hands on from back in the day.All 64 gameplay recorded and played by me off my NTSC Commodore 64 (as designed in America) with the camera pointed at a CRT television. Comparison footage for the NES and Master System are also using original hardware off a CRT. Menace - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2024-03-08 | Menace, an Amiga original, was the first game from DMA Design, which would later create among others; Shadow of the Beast, Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto, and rebrand into Rockstar. Critical darlings from the start, this was a well reviewed game at the time, making multiple best of the year lists and apparently selling 20,000 copies. I'll be facing off against a few of those reviewers here, as I feel they're missing a key insight into this game, mainly that none of them actually won it, I have. The brutal nature of finishing makes it difficult to recommend, though it felt great to achieve. We'll review the reviewers, discuss what actually makes sense to discuss, show off the pain, as well as comparisons with all other versions.All gameplay recorded and played by me, captured from a camera pointed at CRT TV's. This game played via WHDLoad on my Amiga, due to obnoxious cracks I didn't want to show. Genuine hardware used for all Amiga, Commodore 64, and DOS video featured here. Knights Of The Sky - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2023-11-11 | Knights of the Sky was among the first games to treat World War One seriously as a flight simulator, along with Wings, Blue Max, and Dynamix's Red Baron. A bit overshadowed on the Amiga by Wings, as well as DOS by Red Baron, perhaps it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Leaning more toward simulation than Wings, yet adding a bit of that cinematic flair, we'll get into the Amiga port of Knights of the Sky, arguably best in this version. Jumpman - Commodore 64 - Gaming Memories and Review Shot97 2022-12-24 | Taking arcade platformers to the next level with 30 levels, each with their own unique twist along with an added bullet hell and puzzle element. You wouldn't find it in the arcades next to Donkey Kong, as Jumpman was among the first to prove that you didn't have to settle for substandard ports or cheap clones at home. Upon completing those 30 (33 in a sense) well crafted levels you were then rewarded with a cutscene and a highscore which saved to disk, you have won a game. It didn't simply start the game over with ever increasing speed until you died, you could actually win this one! Jumpman took a leap forward and in this review we'll go over not only my thoughts, but others from back in the day via extensive magazine research. Beautiful grasslands, farms, forests, deserts, mountains and more, three brothers set out to save the land of Holm. Death Knights Of Krynn - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2022-05-29 | Second in the DragonLance line of officially licenced AD&D Gold Box games, 5th overall in the series, Death Knights of Krynn is the "spookiest" of all the Gold Box games. The undead are your primary enemies, shown in a wealth of forms along with 3 undead main villains. The connection with the previous game Champions of Krynn runs deep, making this something special in terms of the sequels. Turrican - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2021-12-18 | Loved by many, especially in its Amiga incarnation. I got cursed with the Genesis version growing up, which tainted my opinion for many years. In this review you'll see me grow to liking the game, although unable to not notice certain flaws. It's a much more nuanced opinion than many, but I hope it's worth seeing. A side scroller with a mature theme of finding hostages and stopping the threat of a nuclear weapon, I always found it to be rather unique for the time. The Amiga was the first of a number of late 80's upgrades of Qix to the home market. It combines strategy with action scenes, looking rather nice in the graphics department in this Amiga version. While it can be a bit short, it's an enjoyable ride. Links Golf - Amiga HAM - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2020-10-22 | During a time when most golf games were as flat as could be, Links brought realistic elevation changes which other games couldn't compete with for years. On the Amiga it showed what the system was capable of, even in the 256 color VGA era, by being one of the few full HAM graphics games, showing all 4,096 colors on screen at once. It did this during the actual gameplay, and it's a stunner. Released in time for the holiday season of 1993 when Sega realized they wouldn't have the 3rd installment of the main series ready in time. Flight Simulator II - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2020-06-29 | Flight Simulator without the Microsoft! It's not like they had much to do with it anyway! The ground breaking 2nd version of a series still going strong to this very day, shown here on the Commodore Amiga. While it's defined as the 2nd in the line, the Amiga version is really the third generation of the simulation, showing countless improvements over other releases at the time. So much so that the PC releases of 3.0 and 4.0 were based off the Amiga version of II. A Shot97 Lets Play - Defender of the Crown - Amiga Shot97 2020-06-16 | Felt like revisiting an Amiga classic which I've already reviewed, but this time taking form of a full let's play. An Amiga original from 1986 featuring some of the best art any computer would ever produce. It was the first Cinemaware title and wished to give you a ticket to the movies, succeeding in that quite surely! Arkanoid - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2019-10-07 | The 1986 arcade classic first saw its way to the home via the Commodore Amiga in 1987. Graphically at least identical, perhaps with a tiny bit more polish, the sounds arguably better as well, though sadly no paddles. Taking the Breakout concept to such higher levels that the games that came after were called Arkanoid clones instead of Breakout ones. Also one of the first titles I ever remember playing on the Amiga. A Shot97 Lets Play - Who Framed Roger Rabbit - NES Shot97 2019-07-27 | This 1989 NES video game adaption from Rare and LJN, of the academy award winning film Who Framed Roger Rabbit tends to get a lot of hate these days. This was always one of my favorites on the system, however. It's an incredibly unique game for the NES, with flairs of computer adventure games (and we all know console gamers don't like change from platformers) involving puzzles and item collecting, and also featuring one of the most difficult boss battles ever. Kodachrome - A Shot97 Super8 Film Shot97 2019-07-26 | A different kind of retro, the magic of moving pictures, AKA actual film. Once in awhile I upload one of these and it tends to kill the channel for awhile since some viewers (and YouTube) don't understand that this is a "retro" channel, not just a computer one. Won't stop me though. This was the first roll of Super 8mm film I ever shot, circa 2004, using my favorite film (now discontinued) Kodachrome, hence the title of the video. In person it looks as good as the day it was developed, and it will continue to look that way for a couple hundred years or so (film is the only proven archival method). Camera used was a Bell and Howell 670/XL camera with Kodachrome 40 movie film.Used a new technique for transferring the film to digital, hoping it's looking a bit better than previous films I've put up. Prince Of Persia - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2019-06-23 | Video game history was made with Prince of Persia. Featuring a truly life like feel in the animation due to a rotoscoping technique, this 1989 Apple II game would get ported to a variety of systems both in its prime as well as quite recently. Here we're taking a look at the 1990 Commodore Amiga port, where along with the DOS version, is probably the most iconic version of this computer designed platformer. Hostage: Rescue Mission - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2019-05-03 | Inspired by an event from 1980 and having the design help of the French SAS, the game was originally released as "Hostages" in Europe, but received a name change in America to Hostage: Rescue Mission. Designed originally on the Atari ST in 1988, the Amiga port was released the following year with quite a soundtrack upgrade. SimAnt - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2019-03-17 | The third in the "Sim" line of games, SimAnt would come out in early 1992. Originally released for the Macintosh, receiving ports to DOS, Windows 3.1, the SNES (in a much different form) and the version we're showing off here, the Commodore Amiga. The most "game" of any of the Sim titles, having clear set goals/enemies/a way to win. The Amiga had both hi-res 640x400 and lo-res 320x200 modes, I'm playing in lo-res on real Amiga 500 hardware. Dragons Lair - Amiga - Gaming Memories And Review Shot97 2018-10-28 | This 1989 conversation of the 1983 arcade game is quite impressive on the Amiga. I'd argue the graphics are better, and just like the original, it has its way of making you want to conquer it. And I did just that, legitimately beating the game, and even showing myself on camera doing just that from start to finish. General Electric 15xB Black and White TV - Retro Goodness Shot97 2018-08-21 | Taking a look at my 1976 15 inch GE black and white television. The model number is XB3160BK and the chassis number is 15xB - Just a fun general overview of the TV, sharing some stories about it, showing you how I have it hooked up to receive signals today, and even taking it apart to show you the innards. Air Hockey Christmas - A 70s Super 8 Film Shot97 2018-08-14 | Shot around Christmas by my father, with an educated guess of either 1976 or 1977 as the year. He used a Bell And Howell 670/XL camera. For film buffs, the interesting choice of film stock was Kodak Ektachrome color reversal Super 8 film, type G.
