If you’ve been through the nightmare of trying to renew your prescription every 30 days or dealing with drug shortages, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Just because our medication is classified as a Class 2 controlled substance (regulated by the DEA, drug enforcement administration) doesn't mean it should feel like we're using ALL of our spoons and energy just to get the treatment we need. From low manufacturing quotas set by the DEA, to the ridiculous hoops we have to jump through, it feels like the system is built to fail us.
Seriously, make it make sense! Why do I have to call my doctor every 30 days, navigate through systematic errors and delays, and deal with all this bureaucracy just to get the meds I need to function?! The cognitive skills required to stay on top of this flawed system are exactly what my meds help with, but the government isn’t helping at all. It certainly doesn't help that ADHD medications, like Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, and Ritalin, are all so stigmatized in society.
I’m in the early stages of researching a petition to improve accessibility for adults on ADHD stimulants, so stay tuned. In this video, I review an Effecto ad I came across while scrolling Facebook. I rate the ad, point out marketing tactics and red flags, take their ADHD quiz, and review their Facebook page, which includes their comment sections, community reviews, and their Meta Ad library.
The entire point of these videos is to raise awareness around the fact that advertisers are trying to take advantage of the ADHD community simply because we're looking for help. The worst part is that a lot of these companies (like Effecto) aren't even related to ADHD. They manipulate their ads to make their products appear as if they were made for neurodivergent brains.

For the past two years - until very recently - I worked in the organic content marketing department for an ADHD management app, and I gained a lot of insight and knowledge into how businesses use advertising and media to attract and target ADHD audiences. My intention isn't to shame all advertisers, but to shed light on predatory people and companies trying to take advantage of ADHDers simply because we're looking for help.
So I decided to start dissecting ads that I personally come across while scrolling social media, and today's video is focused on one particular Facebook page: Productivity Knowhow (or is it Wisey?), a company claiming to be the ADHD productivity solution. Spoiler alert: Wisey doesn't quite hit the mark. It's actually not even a real app.
In this video, I react to their initial ad, take the "free 1 minute ADHD assessment" quiz they linked to the ad, and review their Facebook page, all while pointing out red flags and sharing tips for how to stay aware of what tactics are being used to get you to spend money.

The main difference between the two is that stimulants stimulate the Central Nervous System (CNS), and nonstimulants do not. Once stimulated, the CNS releases dopamine and adrenaline, prompting multiple reactions in the body, such as increased focus and a faster heart rate.

A lot of people think it has to do with inattentive vs. hyperactivity, but the answer may surprise you. Citing the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-V), this video explains the difference between the two terms and explains the correct labels for the 3 different subtypes of the disorder:
1. Hyperactive-Impulsive Type (ADHD-HI) 2. Inattentive Type/Primarily Inattentive Type (ADHD-PI) 3. Combined Type (ADHD-C)
Common characteristics of each of these three subtypes are also discussed. For example, people with they hyperactive type may find it difficult to remain seated, those with ADHD-PI are likely to get easily distracted, even during important events, and people with the combined type display characteristics from both the hyperactive and inattentive types of ADHD.
Lastly, I go over the typical procedure for getting an ADHD diagnosis in the USA, and that usually involves a diagnostic questionnaire. (I'm unable to speak for countries other than the United States because I'm not familiar with their procedures. If you have any insights for other parts of the world, please leave them in the comments!) I also give examples of statements that can be found on this questionnaire, such as: "I have difficulties waiting my turn". I then explain why it's important for you to know your specific subtype, even though the treatment options for all three types are practically the same regarding therapy and medications.
As promised, here's the link to an ADHD diagnostic questionnaire that was made publicly available by AAFP National Research Network. I am only sharing this to provide an example of the questionnaires commonly given to patients that suspect they may have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
If you find that you can relate to much of the questionnaire, it would be a great idea to schedule an appointment with your doctor and discuss the possibility of getting diagnosed and treated for ADHD.ADHD Hyperfocus: How to Channel Hyperfocus and Why ADHDers Do ItWhat in the ADHD?2021-02-05 | In this video, Sydni tackles some common misconceptions about ADHD, particularly the idea of "attention deficit" and how it relates to hyperfocus.
I'll explain why the term "attention deficit" can be misleading and provide insights into the neuroscience behind hyperfocus in ADHD brains, which is heavily influenced by dopamine levels, a neurochemical that's responsible for reward and motivation.

Tune in to see how much you can relate to the 3 big feelings that come with the frustrations of parenting with ADHD: impatience, emotional outbursts, and guilt. Learn how you can keep those feelings in check so you can avoid adding too much unnecessary pressure or stress on your child.
A big component of this video circles back to RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria). Since RSD typically develops in childhood, I describe what you can do as a parent to help your child manage their RSD, to lessen the severity of it as they develop, and/or possibly even prevent it from developing altogether. A few teasers: be mindful and give warnings.
Near the end of the video, I also address a question from a follower: how are we supposed to deal with other parents and their opinions and comments about my parenting style and/or my child and their behavior? I respond with what *I* would personally say (heads up, it's not ladylike), and how to approach this issue responsibly and calmly.

There's also a good chance (35-50%) that your child(ren) will inherit your ADHD. (Ahhh, good ol genetics.)
This video explains why parents with ADHD feel those feelings listed above and gives a few strategy ideas for you to think about. I want to emphasize that I'm not a psychologist or anything fancy like that - I'm just ALSO a parent with ADHD and I want to extend my hand and offer some relatable content and ideas for other parents to use and snowball on.
I had a lot more to say than I originally thought, so the second half of the video will be released on a later date. The second half will have information on how to prepare your children for the world despite your ADHD, how to help them control their impulses, avoid Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), and it will have tips for parents on helping their child if their child also has ADHD.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) is an often-overlooked ADHD trait. In this video, I describe what RSD is and what it's like to deal with it on a daily basis, which areas of your life can be affected by it, how and why people with ADHD develop RSD, and ways we can "fix" it.
Not to be confused with "emotional dysregulation", RSD is very specific to people with ADHD (and Autistic individuals in some cases.)

The different medications reviewed are: amphetamine/dextroamphetamine (Adderall XR and IR), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), methylphenidate (Concerta and Ritalin IR, SR, and LA), and dexmethylphenidate (Focalin IR and XR). My aim of the video is to help others understand the differences between these drugs and what they do. Hopefully it can help you decide which medication would be right for you, but please be sure to discuss this with your doctor or PCP!
For each medication, I go over the mechanism of action, different versions, doses, how long it takes to kick in, how long it lasts, and the effects it has on your body (both positive and negative/adverse effects... such as enhanced focus and attention, energy, insomnia, nausea, and decreased appetite.)
Each of these medications affect neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine by either blocking/inhibiting reuptake or increasing their production.
Please note that I am NOT a doctor. I have just personally have ADHD and have taken Adderall XR & IR and Vyvanse. I also put in hours of research and information-gathering to create this video.
