Disneyland Monorail (before it shut down for refurbishment) Luke Starkenburg 2023-07-12 | I went to Disneyland recently and spent the day at the Magic Kingdom! This was my first time there since I was a young kid. I had a blast riding a lot of the old rides I remember and experiencing a few new ones. Riding the monorail around was something I've been wanting to do my whole adult life so I was incredibly glad for this opportunity, especially since I found out that it is currently shut down for refurbishment. I rode many rides which offered unique views of the monorail, especially the Autopia. I was amazed at how close to the ground the monorail track was compared to so many monorail trains I have ridden around the world. The small scale of the trains and how close it was to the ground made it feel much more intimate. This small, single track monorail isn't good for mass transportation, but it showcases what monorails are good for; going around sharp curves and up and down grade elevations with ease. I was also impressed with how smooth the ride is, very much like the Walt Disney World Monorail. These Disney monorails are way smoother than any Bombardier monorail I have ridden.

At Sabana Perdida Station T3, you must get off your cable car cabin and board another cabin. BART to Oakland Tram, Doppelmayr Cable Liner Luke Starkenburg 2023-01-10 | This unique has to be one of the smoothest elevated guideway systems I have ridden on. I shot this one night a few years ago when I was on my way to Oakland to fly out on Southwest. To me, a cable propelled tram this long over flat terrain is not the best technology choice. All the moving parts which includes the enormously long cable which has to be replaced periodically. There are many examples of Doppelmayr cable car systems such as a few in Las Vegas, Mexico City Airport, Toronto Airport, but this is by far the smoothest one I have personally ridden. I would prefer to see more low speed maglev systems, similar to the Linimo in Nagoya, Japan.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway Full Ride POV, 2022 Luke Starkenburg 2022-07-27 | I had the opportunity to ride the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, which is something I've wanted to do my whole life! It was an awesome ride and I highly recommend it! It was slow though, taking over an hour to reach the summit, so I decided to speed up the footage by 4x. These new trains are nice, but it's disappointing that you can't watch from the back window since there is a large engine in the way. The older trains were self propelled and had excellent viewing windows in both the front and back. I was so surprised seeing these trains for the first time because the wheels were so tiny! It looks strange, but I guess big wheels are not needed for a train that goes 15.5 mph (24.9 kmh).

OHare ATS Update, April 2021 Luke Starkenburg 2021-04-18 | After over 2 years out of service, and also testing new trains on the Chicago O'Hare ATS, the system is still closed with no news of when it will open. Recently I saw work being done near the platform door. I heard one reason for the lengthy delay is because the new train floors are a different height than the older trains. Work was also being done on the signaling system.

It was built by Hitachi and is fully automated with the use of safety monitoring staff. Dubuque Fenelon Elevator Company Funicular Luke Starkenburg 2020-11-01 | This unique funicular in Dubuque, Iowa was built in 1893. I was surprised to see that there is no back door to the vehicle! Unfortunately when I was there I was limited in time so I didn't get to ride it. I walked up (9 minute vigorous walk) to the top to get some video from up there. I was hoping to ride it down but found an even longer line waiting to ride than the line at the base! I was also traveling by myself so I didn't know if I should share the cabin during COVID. I didn't want to use up a whole train just for me.

Swimming with the Pigs Adventure, Flamingo Air! Luke Starkenburg 2020-04-09 | The Bahamas is an amazing place full of adventure. We really wanted to spend a lot of time swimming with the pigs on Pig Beach, so we decided to spend a few days on Staniel Cay instead of taking a tour from Nassau or Exuma. Staniel Cay is only a 10 minute boat ride to the Pig Beach, and was such a charming little Island! Just make sure to bring enough cash (US) because there are no ATM's on the Island!There are no ferries to Staniel Cay, although I read there is a mail boat which is cheap but could take 12 hours, stopping at every little Island along the way delivering mail and freight. We decided to fly on Flamingo Air, which was quite the experience! This was by first time flying on a Beech aircraft and it was a nice ride!We stayed at the EMBRACE Resort, which was about about a 8-11 minute walk to the 3 grocery stores and 2 restaurants on the island. One day, we rented a golf cart from our resort and explored both ends of the Island, including the beautiful Pirate Beach!
