Grant wrote this song a few years ago with the tagline, "If 12 people buy this, I can get another carton of nog". What I don't think he realized is how invasive this song has been for everyone listening, especially the Banjo Kazooie OST fans. Immediately upon hearing it, I knew I wanted to cover it, but I never had an idea of how to do it.

Until now.

After the process of my Barbie Girl music video, I felt much more capable to tackle a bigger production like this, the only issue was I was pretty much on my own for this one. Everything was done by me from the ground up with this cover, down to the tripod shots, video production tricks, and more. Fun fact, the fire in that room isn't real, and if you can believe it, same with Santa.

I wish I could tell you I had planned to beast five glasses of nog in a row, or that my balls would end up covered in nog, but for me, this was an insane production that I could really showcase all I've learned in. I just sure hope you people like egg nog as much as Grant and I do.

Also someone should really tell Grant how not okay it is to write the word "noggers" into a song.

I was really happy to see in spite of the critical reception of Pokemon Scarlet Violet, that people still are really hype about this game's amazing soundtrack after my last cover of Penny's Battle Theme. I have been covering Pokemon music for over a decade now in my style and the quality of the music has always improved in some ways, and kept the original charm in all others. There's something always extremely gratifying about doing metal covers of this franchise's songs and I'm very happy to continue!

There was an outcry in the comments for many songs from this title, but this was one that flew under my radar because of how quickly it goes by in the game as the Team Star Grunt battles don't last very long. Upon really diving into it, I realized the complexity of it and how much stuff was here. I took the challenge and a challenge it was as I completely underestimated the difficulty of some of the rhythms and riffs. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I'm (poke)balls deep in Pokemon Violet this week and despite everyone's initial criticism of the game, it's just a fact that Pokemon music just doesn't miss, and Scarlet / Violet is no exception. There's a lot I want to cover from this gen, but this for me was such a standout track.

Something I do that's probably very weird to some, is I really like listening to a game's soundtrack before playing it. I love to hear the music first so that when a song I really liked in the initial listen comes on, I'm extra hyped. It's a feeling that's really hard to top doing it the other way around. I was working on some super secret upcoming project this past week while waiting for the game to drop and this song came on and stuck to my brain like Brock on a red-blooded human female.

I tuned down to Drop G on the 7-string for this one, but really tried to match the octaves of the melody as best as I could. It took some interesting bends to hit some of the high Fs and F#s and sometimes I admit it was sounding like a dog whistle at times, but I think it really helped the melody stand out from everything else going on. I used a bunch of synths and electric drums in conjunction with my usual instruments, so it was really hard to get a clear mix on this one.

I've been cautiously optimistic about the new 3D Sonic game as many fans were, but hearing the music and seeing the footage come out really got me excited to play Sonic Frontiers. I was aware of some of the music coming out, but this song got stuck in my head immediately. I just couldn't get over that modulation every chorus, it just really lifted it in such a fun way. As many of you know, when something becomes lodged in my brain this hard, I usually just HAVE to cover it... the only problem was that it's way out of my range.

Part of me felt like maybe this was just simply not a song I should do since I can't since as high as To Octavia's Merry Kirk-Holmes, but after some time I realized that that shouldn't stop me from at least trying. Sure, there will be the certain YouTube comments complaining about how I sound nothing like the original (as always) or that if I can't sing in the original key, why bother? I think I've learned to let those things go in the pursuit of making music and sharing it with people who would like to hear it.

I gave it my best and tried to lean into the octaves to create a bit more of a contrast over the whole piece. I'm sure it won't be everyone's taste, but I sure had fun!

Also what the HELL was this song originally played on? A 9 string? I had to tuned down to Drop A an octave down just to double some of the rhythms like they sounded on the original. Truly the first song to stump me on tuning. Quad-tracked this between the 8-string and my 7-string. Hope you dig the sound!

Right before my thumb healed, my brother messaged me this idea. Apparently my grandma was like "Jules should play a song with Banjo strings on his guitar", and my brother was like, "Wait... what if he did the Banjo Kazooie theme?" Of course my thumb was broken so I had to wait, but once it healed I got SWAMPED with work that built up outside of YouTube. I actually finally decided to do it now, because I couldn't think of a Halloween song I really wanted to do this year besides Mad Monster Mansion... again. Figured this would do.

I needed two different packs of Banjo strings to make sure I could actually have a descending string pattern. Even still, the strings didn't quite sound balanced once I was able to figure out how to even put them on the guitar. I decided to record it pretty much as is, but in post I needed to do a good amount of volume stuff before the amp because the wound strings were way quieter than the others. I ended up using Archetype Plini for the Clean and Leads, and Nolly for the Rhythm Guitars.

The real challenge here was that I actually started this Sunday morning and I wanted to get it out by today. I really challenged myself to see what I could do in about a 12 hour window and this is about it I think! I would have liked to go more all out with the video like usual, but I think I'm starting to transition back to this style of video since it's easier and I can spend more time on the song selection and audio quality.

I was a furious teenager when I was trying to be as metal and cool as I could be but I couldn't get Barbie Girl by Aqua out of my head. It just felt like it was playing constantly in my mind, so much so that I think I had a mix CD of all metal and then this song at the end, probably which got played the most.

Last year I think off-handedly, Lollia was over my house and she was like let's do Barbie Girl, and for some reason I had never been more ready to make a cover in my life. When she came to visit this time, we sat down and beasted out the whole arrangement. We both decided to lean into our edginess and make a gothic metal spin on it, I was so ready to flip the song into minor for this and didn't even realize that the song IS in minor. So I did the next best thing, Harmonic Minor. Adding some organs to really ice the gothic cake.

This was the first video I've ever gone all out with a shot list and took the whole pre-production for it really seriously. I had a lot of weird passion in trying to bring the most unhinged video I could, by being a psychopathic Ken to Lollia's e-girl esque Barbie. We shot on 6 locations across two days. It was so much work to edit together and then do some (campy and half-hearted) vfx for it, but I wanted to make something I'd be proud of. I hope it's a fun listen.

After my thumb healed, I dove head first into a ton of projects all at once and all of them happened to be quite ambitious. I realized not only did I have nothing planned for after Master of Puppets, I am also completely out of the momentum I had before of doing weekly covers. While I had Lollia and OR3O over at my house, they showed me this meme pretty close to as it was happening and right after I got a message from Altrive saying I should cover this, so I thought, what the heck.

For those that don't know, back in June I broke the thumb on my right hand. I was skateboarding with my dog and fell and sustained an oblique fracture on my first metacarpal. It was completely blown off the bone and needed to be reset and I was in a cast for almost 8 weeks.

The new Stranger Things season wrapped up around that time and when Master of Puppets came up I felt like it was the universe mocking me. I don't think many people know, but one of the first songs I ever covered with a band was Master of Puppets when I was probably 15 or 16. I so badly wanted to pick the guitar up and play it, but I just couldn't. When my thumb healed however, I told myself what better rehabilitation than to get this song up to speed and play it as best I could. What I wasn't expecting was doing the vocals too.

I was really split on this cover, I wanted to definitely not disrespect the source material by trying to just completely plaster my usual stuff all over it. I spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect middle ground between the original guitar tone of the rhythm guitars and something I've come to love about modern metal and came up with this tone using the John Petrucci Neural DSP and a LOT of EQ. For leads, I kinda just used my usual lead tone because I'm honestly not the biggest fan of how the leads sound in the original. I tried to play the solos as close as I could to original only sometimes adding slight flair, but really doing something silly at the end. Hope all the super elitist Metallica fans can forgive.

I was nervous about the vocals, but I wasn't expecting that the vocal style I've been developing over the past year actually serves well to this style. I'm no James Hetfield, but I definitely got closer than I thought I would and I'm proud of how it sounds.

I'm back, baby. Thumb is back to firing at all cylinders. Let's make some awesome music.

I finally felt motivated to pull this one off.

It was a bit of an undertaking to say the least, but as I'm trying to slow down on videos for this channel, I found it was a good time to try and break this one out since I've wanted to do it for so long. I knew it was going to be insane due to it's length and vocal chops needed, so I alloted myself as much time as I needed to get it completed. I think I began this right after finishing It Has To Be This Way, so it took about three weeks until I felt confident to reveal this to the world.

This was a complete leap of faith with my vocals. As most people know, singing in my covers is VERY much a new and uncomfortable thing for me and I knew that there was absolutely no room for lack of confidence in this track. I spent three days on vocal tracking alone, and ended up completely blowing out my voice for days. I'm gonna need a vocal coach if I'm gonna keep this up!

Johnny Manchild has been a huge help to me lately, not only has he been helping me with transcription, mixing, and tab writing; this cover would not be nearly as insane without his knowledge and implementation of synths to match the original feel. Most of the synths you hear are him so be sure to thank him on his channels.

My birthday was just a few days ago, and Adriana got me four new flood lights to use in my videos and I added them to my lighting setup. It's starting to look pretty legit compared to previous videos (specifically like SwSh Gym Cover lmao).

There were snags at every step of this cover and it was a true testament of everyone involved to bring it to you. I truly hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think below!

It has to be covered.

It's a crime that it's taken me this long to finally do this one. These part two covers were songs that now that I'm really trying to force myself into the world of doing my own vocals, I had to do as soon as possible. It's in a great vocal range for me, and I'm a huge fan of this soundtrack and it's been clear to me how much you guys love this OST as well.

I actually remember playing through this game really enjoying the soundtrack, but wondering if it'd be really that popular due to it's heavy use of vocals during scenes with dialogue which can usually be very distracting. I'm really glad this game's soundtrack also seems to be having a resurgence because it gives me an excuse to prioritize bringing my take on it to you guys.

This is the first cover in over a decade of this channel to be mixed by someone other than me. In an effort to lower my workload so I can take on more spontaneous projects, I've hired on the help of the insanely talented Johnny Manchild to assist me in creating these covers. You'll probably notice the difference here in the low end from my previous mixes. I'm really excited to see the new dimension of my covers moving forward having someone else be part of the creative process. Can't wait to hear what you think!

This may be one of the catchiest songs in existance.

About a month ago, I stumbled upon the Wind Rose cover of this song and I was blown away at the production of it. It was mind boggling to me to see a song from Yogscast in a Minecraft vid from like 2011 get to where it is today and really illustrates how music can spread and flourish from unorthodox places. I found myself singing this earworm day after day until I finally had to give it a go. I chose to reference the original song as my basis of arrangement and added a few things later on, but kept the heart there as much as I could. There's nothing I love more than mixing fantasy and silliness, except maybe video games and metal.

Believe it or not, I actually found the pick axe among some tools left by a previous tenant at my house and I knew I had to make use of it here. When I struck the rock with it, I actually didn't expect it to spark, so the first strike was caught on film. I only gave it a few hits since it was very late at night and I didn't want to explain to anyone, especially law enforcement, why I was out on a mountain, mining a random rock looking like a dwarf at 1am. Got some pretty great shots and it'll definitely make this shoot memorable.

I hope you find this cover as sweet as a teat of stone.

I've been doing a whole lot of modern video game songs and I really wanted to hit up something this week that I've been itching to do for a while. I noticed in my analytics how many people still love the Doom 2016 soundtrack and it gave me the drive to crank this one out. I knew I wanted to go a bit bigger if possible than usual though.

As with my first Doom cover, I wanted to challenge myself to only use guitars for this, no synths. I real opposite of what Mick Gordon was originally tasked with. I worked hard in replicating the synths with guitar effects and reverbs to create a similiar vibe and I really took a lot of time to mix this differently than I usually do. I think I tried to strive a middle point between what I did for BFG Division and The Only Thing They Fear.

For this cover, I puchased some Bare Knuckle Juggernaut pickups for my 8-string. While the EMGs had served me well, I really wanted to get something like Bare Knuckles in my Schecter Hellraiser C8 to better serve tracks like this. Unfortunately, the bridge pickup I got was broken. After days or rewiring, I finally just put the neck pickup in the bridge pickup position and got started. I wired it so that the only thing this guitar could do is that Neck pickup with no splits or anything. What I found was the neck pickup was LOUD. I couldn't make the DI not clip when playing this song and honestly, I felt like it was awesome.

I really like the idea of adding more unique elements to my covers as much as I can and there's no one in my house, except maybe Adriana, better suited to be the embodiment of Rip and Tear than my dog Marnie. For someone who has a talent for violently destroying ever toy we give her, it was difficult getting shots of her taking on this poor Cacodemon I ordered for the sole purpose of being dismemebered. I hope it's a fun balance of badass and silly that I always strive to achieve with these videos.

One of the most requested songs people have asked me to do has been Dedede Theme and I honestly couldn't tell you why I haven't done it yet, but now I'm glad I didn't so I could jump on this one as my first time hitting up the classic song. I'm so glad Kirby and the Forgotten Land has been so successful and loved because Kirby is one my most cherished video game franchises.

This time around I wanted to see how it work to mix different sounds. I completely redid my bass tone in Neural DSP Parallax, and used my usual lead tone. I mic'd my Mesa Boogie JP-2C for the rhythms and really liked how it sounded. I feel like I'm really getting the hang of doing real amp stuff.

This is it. My first real dive into acoustic indie coffee bar music. Little known fact, this is actually how I started playing guitar. Singing along to my favorite songs by Rise Against and Elliott Smith when I was just learning how to do basic chords so as much as this is nerve wracking for me to release, It's familiar in a way. What I have never done in a cover though is play drums! I'm working very hard at getting better so I can incorporate real drums in future videos that I will record and play live! That's the hope at least.

My comments section has made it apparent that I'd have to take this song on and I'm very happy to give it my all for you guys. I'm still making my way through A Realm Reborn very slowly, but I'm very excited to get to the point of hearing these songs myself in the game and I think it's going to be extra hard hitting. As many of you know, there was a stretch goal for the upcoming indie fighter game, Fraymakers, to have me do an alternate metal soundtrack for the game. That was achieved and I've been working on the game for some time now making metal covers of some of my favorite indie game music. The team released this on Twittter so I thought I'd also release my guitar playthrough of the song.

I had the privelege of meeting the developer of Downwell at GDC in 2016 when I was there for the award ceremony. Super awesome guy and I remember DannyB asking me why I haven't done any of it's music yet. I'm so glad I finally have such an awesome reason to really take on this song with all I've got! This song really worked so well for the style so it was a blast working on.

I actually didn't use real amps for this one, this one's all the Nolly Neural DSP plugin which I've taken a new liking to. It's fun having all these different options and I'm super lucky for that. Hope you enjoy the sound of it!

A few weeks ago, I participated in Alpharad's Mario Kart tournament. My team consisted of Adriana Figueroa, WeegeeTheGod, and Smith. We did pretty well and had a ton of fun but didn't end up winning. Our strategy was to grind Moo Moo Meadows in practice and then try and convince the opposing team to "gentleman's" all vote for Moo Moo Meadows as the first track to destroy every team. Not every team went for it though, but we ended up having a lot of fun and even streamed it from a hot tub!

This track is a song I've wanted to do for a long time but I've been intimidated by it's difficulty as it's approaching bluegrass in speed and style. I chose to take it on finally and I really dug into trying to get the best performance I could through a mic'd amp so I can start nailing mixing with real amps. I ended up picking up a Sennheiser 609 to add some depth to the rhythm tone and I found it easier this time around to lock in with the bass guitar which is being run through Neural Parallax. The leads I got on the last cover were solid so I did the same thing, running it through a solo channel into a 1x12 H&K cab and it sounded great! Still getting a handle on it, but hope you like it!

I FINALLY DID SPLATOON YAY

Splatoon was a game I was introduced to very early on, but it didn't capture me enough to want to play Splatoon 2 initially. I actually played a good amount of Splatoon with Thunderscott (who helped write these lyrics), but it wasn't until Chuggaaconroy's Let's Plays that I'd really dig into it's music.

A while back, Chuggaaconroy asked if I would do a cover for his initial Splatoon series and I was happy to oblige, but I had no idea so many people would want a full version of something I only intended to make a small portion of. I felt bad not having the time to flesh out the original version so when I got the opportunity to do it again, I was ready to make sure I'd have a video and download ready to go.

This cover I used more single coil guitar sounds with Neural DSP tones instead of real amps so I could have control over the tone more. It's nice to kinda be limited and stuck with the tone you got when it's miced from an amp, but I'm still really trying to wrap my head around getting the sound I want from it.

Adriana and I were overwhelmed with how much you guys enjoyed our rendition of Flow. There were a ton of requests but this is the one I've been wanting to do for a while now. I remember constantly feeling like I missed the boat on FFXIV, but when I saw the Endwalker trailer, it made me want to blast all the way to Endwalker as fast as I could. Still working on that by the way.

It was interesting doing this since it's technically a medley. While I've been known in the past as the medley guy, jumping back into something so intricate and multilayered was a challenge for sure. Since I'm also trying out micing a real amp instead of using amp sims and my Mxe FX III, I'm having a really tough time getting to a sound I like quickly. I've been kind of forced to be okay with what I get and learn the sound and how it works. I'll get the hang of it soon.

This is probably the video with the most range from me singingwise. I'm still super nervous about singing at all, but you guys in the comments have been so supportive on my previous vocal performances, so it's thanks to you that I had the courage to take this one on. Sorry if it's a bit rough, but I gave it my all!

Happy 2022! I took a nice break to recharge and work on a ton of projects for this year that I can announce soon! I'm going to be easing back into regular content for this channel with some already made tracks starting with my first original on the channel!

In 2019 I was super busy with Replay as well as other projects, but a game company approached me and asked if I'd compose for their VR game. I told them I was really busy, but then they told me it's a VR game where you shoot sharks on mars, so naturally I dropped everything to write this. I had a ton of fun just making brutal chuggy low tuned riffs with synths. I constrained myself to a very particular chord progression. If you feel like the song doesn't really move that much, it's by design. Analyze the chord progression and maybe it'll get a laugh out of you, hopefully.

This is also my first cover with REAL AMPS! :o

I was able to snag a Mesa Boogie JP-2C+ head and I ran it through an oversized Mesa cab for rhythms and a 1x12 Hughes and Kettner for leads. I tried using the Fredman mic technique, but struggled to get a sound I liked so I actually just did an off center position for the leads for it's mids with a 57 and a 57 dead on the center of the speaker on the mesa cab. Sounded okay, but I can't wait to get even more practice this year.

Please be gentle, it's my first original song on the channel! I'm really going out of my comfort zone to cast this out into the... uh... sharks...

For how many hours I've put into Final Fantasy XIV, it's a wonder why this is my first cover from the game... and also a wonder why I'm still trying to get through A Realm Reborn. I began playing quite a while ago because I was excited to see what all the excitement was about, being a big Final Fantasy fan myself, but I was not ready for the time commitment required to catch up. I've been plugging away slowly, however Adriana and I have been passed this song by our friends asking if we'd ever cover it. Needless to say, we couldn't resist.

Though it's a song we won't be hearing in game for quite some time, the melody and harmony was instantly captivating to me and I just had to try to see what I could do with it. I had fun keeping mostly to the book for the beginning and expanding out as I normally do with these covers as it progressed, while Adriana found a great middle between operatic and a pop/rock style vocal for this arrangement. I think it came out fun, challenging, and unique and I'm so happy to share it with you guys. This is christmas present to all our friends who were moved by Endwalker and we hope you guys enjoy it too. Happy holidays!

I don't know how I've gone all of 2021 without one Pokémon cover. Pokémon is some of my all time favorite music to cover, but the biggest issue is my huge gap in the games I've played. I essentially missed out on every game between Gold/Silver and X/Y, so Diamond and Pearl seemed like a game I'd never have the chance to play since I'd want to hit up Gen 3 first. This is why I'm a huge fan of Nintendo remaking games as much as they have. There seems like there's just too many classic games to play in one lifetime that when a game gets rereleased or ever remastered, it really does feel like a second chance for people like me that never got the chance!

This is one of the most iconic songs in Pokemon and even though I missed out on the game, I couldn't avoid it if I tried. I remember hearing Drpez12's version years ago and never being able to get it out of my head for years after. I knew someday I would play it myself and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so now. There are some CRAZY leads in this one as well as a full orchestra and really fun synths I made for it. I went all out on this while also trying to make that riff groove as much as I could so I hope you like it!

This was the one cover I said I would never do.

The reason why is silly but I think it was important to an older me. I really didn't feel like I enjoyed Halo all that much growing up. I still remember playing it for the first time in a Circuit City (OLD) when it had just came out, and I was really excited to play it. I spent countless hours enjoying the multiplayer, but I really struggled to enjoy the story. The whole thing felt like such a slog to me for some reason.

In the early days of YouTube for me, I always felt like what made a cover good was the players emotional attachment to the game. I really thought you could feel it listening to someone who loved the game rather than just someone putting it out because it got views. I was so committed to making a name for myself as someone who only did songs from games I liked.

I enjoyed making this cover, and I really love this song. So it's strange to think that my enjoyment of a story mode in a gmae I otherwise enjoyed barred me from doing this for so long. I really did have a blast getting to play this iconic song on guitar and add my own flair to it. It's nice to line this up with the rerelease while others are enjoying it again so it felt like a great time.

I first discovered Black Desert Online back when it released when I saw a video of someone recreating Emma Watson in it's absolutely stunning character creator that holds up more than five years later. I remember spending 10 hours in the character creator alone that I was so tired when I finally got around to playing it, that I didn't even have the energy that night to get through the tutorial. It was clear to me that this game was something else and though it's not been at the absolute forefront of MMORPGs since, the game has an amazing community and player base that keeps it alive.

I was approached from the company to make a cover from the OST and they brought my attention to this track. I thought it was absolutely slamming and I couldn't wait to dig in. Contrary to my previous feelings on covering already metal songs in games, I have come to absolutely love playing songs from games that are made with the guitar in mind rather than keyboard or even just clicked in by mouse. It not only makes it easier to lay down and wrap my fingers around, but let's me work on my practical metal guitar chops and also metal production in an environment the song is inherently built for.

This was one song while playing that I was really excited to learn how to play. I think it's pretty obvious the similarity between this and F-Zero music and I was most looking forward to arranging this because F-Zero music is some of my biggest influence to be a guitarist in general!

Upon hearing Love the Subhuman Self for the first time. I could have sworn it was my good friend Lollia singing it in the original, so I knew that if I were ever to cover it, I HAD to get her. When I told people I was covering this song, it was funny because a lot of people were taken aback because of how difficult this song sounds from the beginning. Having done so many songs over the years that AREN'T arranged for guitar, I actually really look forward to songs like this because it puts me much more in home field.

Having only a handful of lead guitars, I spent the majority of the time trying to get my guitars to sound beefier, but all while trying to keep Lollia the center of attention with the occasional scream of "The Bee's Knees" to poke through. It's made me realize how weird making video game covers has made my mixing habits. I hope someday I can really spend sometime on changing up my mixing game but I'd probably have to take a break from weekly covers.

I've been planning this cover since I first played the game. I first heard the song playing through the game on stream and my chat told me that there was this secret song you had to go into the settings to unlock and at the time it was this one. They later added Monster as an official third song of week 2 and I'm really glad because not only is it the longest song, but it a lot of ways it's one of the most interesting.

The absolute chaos that is the lyrics aside, the time changes and straight up Danny Elfman feel is astounding and I knew it would be a challenge to take on. What I found however is that it was a really fun exercise in making alternating time in metal still relatively easy to bob your head and follow along to. Plus it was nice to throw in some ska chords. Always love that.

ThunderScott was my first choice for this and he came out to visit about a month ago when we had originally planned to shoot this video. Unfortunately we ran out of time with all the commitments we both had during the week he was here so we planned to do the project remotely after he'd left. I wish we could have done some in psrson shots, but the video came out really cool nonetheless. Hope you enjoy it and you have an awesome Halloween!

It's wild how this song hit in the same way that Field of Hopes and Dreams hit years ago with the first chapter of Deltarune. To this day, I still love playing Field of Hopes and Dreams live so I was very eager to cover this as soon as possible. There was something so enticing about learning how to play this lead on guitar.

There's been a lot of covers of this song already so I wanted to try something different so I definitely made sure to not only really go over the top with layers as I usually do, but I gave myself a bit more freedom with some parts including the intro. Still, it's hard to know where to change things up with songs like this that feel so perfect going in.

When I first played FNF earlier this year, I got to week 2 and immediately thought of how perfect it'd be to do this with my good friend Lyle. Not only does he look like him, but I've been wanting to do a proper cover with Lyle for years. This was one I specifically saved to do with him one day and I couldn't be happier.

His visit lined up with a visit from Jerod (The8BitDrummer) and I asked Jerod if he'd like to play girlfriend and also have some drums on a video for once! Though he's in the video, sadly the drums are preprogrammed as usual. But now that I have an acoustic drumkit in my house.... who knows for the future...

Most of the FNF covers I've done to date have really come down to sending a file back and forth and having the collaborator do their thing, but Lyle and I actually tracked this together back and forth playing off each other in real time and I think it really encapsulates a really cool dynamic for the song! Hope you enjoy!

It's been crazy seeing the hype of this game continue so far after it's monsterous release two weeks ago. There was so much excitement and it's so refreshing to continue to see more covers, fan arts, and everything in a time where it seems like the general video game audience has such a short attention span for games these days. I had such a fun time seeing just how fast I could churn out a cover of Attack of the Killer Queen after the game released, but this time I really wanted to go all out.

I originally had the thought to just do the vocals myself, but I was stressed because I had to leave this week to LA to do some video stuff with Alpharad. Adriana had the idea of how cool it would be to have him actually do the lines and I thought it really fit super well. I completed the entire song instrumental and filmed my sections at home, and then we found a set to film at in LA after I recorded his vocals and glitch edited and packaged the final song together on his kitchen table.

We had an INSANE amount of snags though. Not only did we end up arriving to the shoot space an hour and half late, (leaving us about 20 minutes to get ALL of the warehouse shots you see), but when I tried to pack up and leave in a hurry, I twisted my knee and leg really bad. Then once I moved over the files to my laptop, they all inexpicably disappered without any prompts or anything after I begun editing the video. I spent the next 48 hours recovering the files from the SD card using various storage recovery programs and could only retrieve about half of the footage we got. Jacob also ripped his pants during this shoot and I did capture it, but it was unfortunately lost. I honestly can't believe this video made it in time, but we're all very proud of it and hope you enjoy!

I have turned down a inumerable amount of sponsors for this channel because I've been less than excited about interrupting a playlist of my music or just breaking up the intended vibe of a video at all, but when I was reached out about this one, I definitely had to reconsider since I'm such a fan of the game. I thought about waiting a bit before doing any Deltarune stuff but then I realized I wanted views so I did it within 24 hours of the new chapter releasing. Ha ha.

In all seriousness, I've noticed the actual passion for game music has gotten lost behind a lot of egos and speculation on algorithms and seo and I decided to throw all that out the window and try to get this out as fast as I could with what I had. I played Chapter 2 last night with Adriana, Jack, and Thunderscott and really enjoyed it. The music is just as good as it always has been and I'm really excited to jump into the soundtrack and share what I make of it without holding myself back with rules that may or may not matter.

I absolutely love so many of the chord choices in this song, like the move from the i chord to the i diminished right at the start of the heavy section, as well as the song jumping around from doing what you'd expect to what you wouldn't harmonically. It was really fun to double some of the crazy bass stuff with rhythm guitar. Nothing was held back in this video for sake of time. I did everything in it that I would have given more time, and honestly, I think because I didn't over-analyze or over-mix it, I'm actually happier with the final result. I guess I haven't had much time with it so who knows how I'll feel about it in a few days, I hope you enjoy it though!

I just got back from San Japan last week and it was incredible to go to a con again and meet so many of you guys! I was suprised and grateful of everyone's attention to safety there, but I was also suprised how many people specifically referenced my Mega Man X medley as their favorite work of mine. When I came back, I was so inspired by those comments to yet again, revisit and do a full arrangement of a song I only breifly played in the medley all those years ago.

This past weekend I had to make another trip up to LA so I didn't have time to really go all out on a video idea or take anything particularly challenging or time consuming, and Mega Man music is always my go to since it rips so hard and it's really curated to guitar, however I always tend to still try to push myself to make it interesting so I tryied to make a compelling arrangement and solo section and really tediously layer in cool instruments here. It seems like the Friday Night Funkin Frenzy is finally starting to fade slightly. However that's not going to stop me from covering bangers when I hear em! I haven't been up to date with mods only having tried Mid-Fight Masses in the last month but the outcry in the comments for me to do this was unignorable. So I did what any Gopnik culture loving, hard bass comrade would do and ordered myself an ushanka and addidas tracksuit far too late, but as they say, better than never.

This week I traveled to San Antonio for San Japan so I was short on time for the cover this week. I chose this one as I hoped it would be easier having only the opening riff in mind, but as I arranged it I realized what I got myself into. I tried not to change the arrangement too much and just add a few sections. The most fun part was cranking the kick to obnoxious levels and just trying to make a mix that slapped enough for the mother land. Hope you dig it even though it's a bit weird!

All heels remained grounded this whole video. Respect to the squat warriors of Gopnik culture. My capatilist thighs were almost no match.

Nyan Cat is 10 years old this year. 🧓

I remember when Nyan Cat seemed to come out of nowhere really falling in love with the concept, even having bought a few shirts of Nyan Cat and Nayn Cat (which I wore in covers a LONG time ago). For a while I thought it'd be fun to play, but each time I picked up my guitar to try to play it, it was just too hard and I couldn't decide if it would be better to do as a tapping riff or a picking thing. Since I was so set on focusing on Video Game Music for this channel, I eventually dropped the idea in 2011.

I used to catch up with my buddy CSGuitar89 all the time on Skype around then who also was a prominent Video Game Guitar cover artist on YouTube. I distinctly remember talking to him about it and how fun it would be to make a cover of it, but never really getting around to it. Nyan Cat was really a meme that seemed to rise and fall very quickly as a viral sensation and is one of the earliest examples of what we see now where a meme will enter absolute critcal mass appeal and seemingly disappear as fast as it came.

Though as much as an ancient meme relic, Nyan Cat still slaps and has remained in my heart all this time. Hope you guys like what I did with it. :)

During my first playthrough of Skyward Sword, this theme haunted me. I found it just playing on loop in my head all day. What was weird was I didn't even really like the game. I was so busy with making covers full time, school, streaming, and everything else in 2013 when I played this game, and unfortunately I had a similiar experience to people who felt SS generally wasted their time. I didn't give the game a fair shot honestly and I've been enjoying it much more with the remake now that I'm in a different headspace and don't mind just vibing with a game. However even though I wasn't enjoying the game as much as I wanted to, I couldn't deny that this song was powerful.

I wrote it down as a cover to do back in 2013 and it's stayed in that spreadsheet until now. I kept thinking over the past 8 years how to tackle it. It really needed the sensitivity to not be blasted with metal guitars, should be played on a piano like the original, but would be so cool to play on ocarina, but there's a cool way to play it on classical guitar, and honestly I should just blast it with metal guitars.

As you can see, I just opted for all of them in one arrangement. I figured there's no better time now to take on this song so I hope you enjoy how it turned out. In someways having all these plans made the final result for me feel less than I felt like I could have done, but I'm still proud of how it turned out and hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching!

Honestly, I wouldn't have been this brave to take on something like this if there wasn't so many really nice comments on my last few songs with vocals. You guys have really made me feel more confident in trying to do more of my own vocals and lucky for me, I keep stumbling on songs that I think are slightly more suited to me than other ones I've tried. Thank you so much for your continued support as I overcome my voice sounds weird to me syndrome.

A few things are new for this video! SUBTITLES! YAY! I baked them in this time mostly inspired by LittleVMills doing it and I hope it's cool. Let me know if you like them. The original song is very, um, creatively pronouced, so I thought this was a good chance to try this out.

While this song has been on loop in my head since playing Omori the first time, the title of the song was never truly made apparent to me. So it was very weird seeing it requested in my comments with little to no context as to what it was referring to. When I finally decided to hit it up, now that I think enough time has gone by since the game released, it finally hit me.

As a lifelong Hot Topic rewards member with a brooding and edgy disposition, Space Boyfriend was a very relatable character for me. I knew that I wanted to cover his theme from the start. I just had to figure out just how heavy and crazy I wanted to go with it, and the answer was yes.

I also really just liked the idea of naming a video simply: You were wrong. Go back.

I've been getting requsts for Guilty Gear since just about a decade ago. It wasn't a game series I was all too familiar with since I'm not much of a fighting game fan (mostly because I'm terrible at them). However after I heard some of the music in passing, I chose to pick up Strive.

I got to play a bit with The8BitDrummer and Delcake a while ago and I really enjoyed the aesthetic quite a lot. Much to my surprise, Adriana knew a good deal about the characters and let me use her fight stick to play that I honestly forgot she had. Zorsy, actually hit up Adriana a while ago about wanting to the do this track so to have the both on this was a real treat!

This cover was really difficult to pull off, it actually took two weeks to finish but I'm happy with the result and hope you guys enjoy! Thanks for watching!

Sab and Carlos came to visit this week since restrictions have been starting to ease up and we can have guests again. I actually had something else originally planned for this week but wanted to do a project with these two before they left. It's always a blast getting to work with them since it takes me out of my usual bubble of what I'm used to arranging.

Adriana actually had the idea that it would be fitting for Senpai to play sax and we actually toyed with the idea of Sab playing senpai (Sabpai?) but went with Carlos since Tenor Sax probably would fit Senpai's voice better. We managed to still get Sab on this and she did an incredible piano part and did all of the backing sax parts that are featured in the original song too!

Hope you enjoy what we did here! I also got new curtains and I think they look better than the old ones. Let me know what you think! Next week I have a cover from a game that people have been asking me to do music from since the beginning. Now that the new one came out last month, I guess it's finally time to hit up this fighting game...

In honor of the return of 2011 game, I'm returning to 2012 FamilyJules thumbnails.

Skyward Sword is not my favorite Zelda game, but I'm not sure how much of that is it's fault. I chose to stream my first playthrough of it on Twitch.tv, and as much as I liked to think that was going to force me to finish it, I found that it actually sapped the experience I could have gotten from it since I was also live and entertaining a chat. I'm very excited to hit this game up on my own time on the switch and so far (especially with the button controls and movable camera) I'm enjoying it! My main concern was how repetitive it got, but I really missed out on experiencing the story for myself so maybe this time around I'll get it.

I still remember the initial trailer of this game and how people were losing their minds over how playing it backwards played Zelda's Lullaby and it was genuinely really exciting. Up until Skyward Sword came out, it felt like forever since a new main series Zelda hit the shelves since it seemed like focus was on the DS titles. I wanted to make sure to capture the original grand feel so I went full orchestra minus strings (besides a double bass). I used brass and woodwinds primarily because it fit the vibe (and also the original might be that way too? idk).

I've really loved the collaborative potential of covering music from Friday Night Funkin'. It's awesome to have music to play that has such back and forth style so engraved and it also be such a huge draw. I'm delighted to hit up one of the most iconic FNF songs with Longestsoloever whose channel has been exploding due to his amazing covers of FNF. It's been absolutely awesome since he's been grinding the YouTube game for a very long time now and has an awesome catalog of video game covers so definitely check his stuff out and subscribe!

For this video, I decided to break out the tripod again to match our footage. It was a really fun challenge to try and get the most I could out of the still shots with camera shake effects, light leaks, and more intense transitions. Much easier to execute those effects when I've got handicam, but I think this really adds a more relatable and accessible music video and really focuses on the music performance.

South has probably one of the coolest drops in the OST so I took great care in focusing on how to execute it in this cover. I really opted for very simple backing stuff to bring the spotlight on the lead guitars. Arrangementwise I wanted to almost bring the song to a grinding hault vibewise so that once it picked up, it was a true punch to the gut.

The real challenge in this song was the polytonal bridge. When the clean section starts up, the lead guitars and backing chords and bass are in different keys which provide a very strange texture. I opted not to change anything and try to make it sound as clean as it does in the original. What I ended up opting for was adding slight pitch shifting to actually lead into the sound. I'm sure it won't sit well with everyone, but I really thought it was fun playing around with that.
