THE VICTIM WAS THELMA LIPSCOMB LAM, ABOUT 30, OF THE 44-HUNDRED BLOCK OF GLENRIDGE ROAD, NORTHWEST COUNTY.CHARGED IN THE DEATH IS: A 16-7R-OLD - WHITE MALE THE WOMAN WAS STABBED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE NECK, AND WAS ALSO APPARENTLY BEATEN WITH A BLUNT INSTRUMENT. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT THE WET PET SHOP IN THE 48-HUNDRED BLOCK OF WILLIAMSON ROAD.THE WOMANS BODY WAS FOUND IN A BEDROOM ON THE PET SHOP, WHERE IT HAD APPARENTLY BEEN DRAGGED FROM THE STORE AREA. He left Roanoke in the custody of City Sergeant Kemit Allman about 10 Oclock this morning, chained to another prisoner, Raymond Muse, who was being returned to the pan after a habeas corpus hearing. Patterson flanked by Allman on his left and Muse and a deputy city sergeant, emerged from the municipal building wearing a broad smile. He continued to smile all the way to Allmans car and nodded to reporters as the car began to move away. Patterson was convicted June 13th of the murder of Mrs. Thelma Lipscomb lam, and sentenced to die in the electric chair. Upon arrival at the penitentiary, Patterson was taken to death row, where he joined nine other men awaiting the electric chair, among them, Frank Jimmy Snider, convicted 13 years ago of a rape in Roanoke.

(roll film)Johnson will be awarded a trophy in Los Angeles on January 7th, (show film)This slightly stooped man with a magnificent torso and oddly thin calves is regarded by many as the finest all-around athlete in history.In Moscow last summer, he whipped the Russian decathlon holder, blasting through the murderous ten-event schedule on a bad leg and putting a new world record on the score board in the process. For these and other reasons, Sports Illustrated has honored Johnson and awarded him a Grecian Urn trophy, symbolic of his athletic supremacy.Here are some of the events of the decathlon ... those not shown are the hundred meter dash, broad and high jump, four hundred and fifteen hundred meter run and pole vault. President Eisenhower throws out first ball of the American League baseball season nutty.archives 2016-11-04 | President Eisenhower, in company with vice-president Richard Nixon, helped open the American League baseball season in Washington yesterday.The president tossed out the first ball of the season. Washington outfielder Bob Allison snags the toss, a soft one and was rewarded with an autograph by Ike.Allison had to outmaneuver the Washington and Boston teams for the prize.Nixon helped raise the centerfield flag. Washington had a big day, beating Boston 10-1 and for one day at least the Senators were leading the American League. Ike and Nixon played the role of typical baseball fan to perfection.

Last year Chicago finished five games in front of Cleveland.Manager Al Lopez, who brought them through in 1959, says his club will be tough again.For one thing, the White Sox still have Nelson Fox and Luis Aparicio, a strong combo down the middle. Theyre tops in pulling off the smooth double play.Fox, voted the Most Valuable Player in the American League last year batted .306. Hes a peper hitter.....The White Sox are counting on the bat of Big Ted Kluszewski.........A winter trade has sent Gene Freese to the White Sox...Handling the pitchers behind the plate will be Sherm Lollar, a 10-year veteran in the majors.
