It's been several years since I've been here last, and I wanted to see how different it looks. While there are many areas of Brunswick that are growing economically, some areas like this are staying forgotten. Brunswick has a population of about 15,300, and has a poverty level of 31%. Brunswick still has many abandoned houses and businesses, due in part to long-term economic decline driven by the collapse of traditional industries, the shift of tourism and growth to the nearby islands and suburbs, and post-WWII economic and population shifts. A town with coal mining heritage, it is home to the 1968 Consol No. 9 Mining disaster. Sadly, 78 miners lost their lives due to the explosion. This led to the 1969 Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act. It once peaked at over 800 residents back in the 1940s, now, 390 live here today. These two places are often compared and asked about, so here's some differences between the two of them. There's an unbelievable amount of decline, a lot having to do with the Rust Belt Decline over the past several decades. Abandoned places are all over, businesses closed, it's very sad. Ive vistited many parts of these areas in the past, however a lot has changed and its interesting to see it develop. I also check out a place within Cleveland called "Doom City", which has been abandoned for over 47 years, absolutely amazing. Let's see what some of these areas look like in 2026.

This is also home to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, also known as the Weston State Hospital, which handles paranormal ghost tours. Driving Through Waynesburg Pennsylvania Late at Night Hoods N Hollers 2026-05-03 | Waynesburg is located in Greene County, Pennsylvania and is home to about 3,555 residents. A classic Appalachian small town deeply rooted in coal mining and agriculture. Known for it's Victorian style downtown, Waynesburg University, and "Rain Day" celebrated every July 29th, its a charming place. With that said, poverty is fairly high at around 15%, due to largely the collapse of the coal industry. The natural gas boom looked promising for a minute, but that also has been on the decline. There's literally only 2 people living here! It's amazing and serene. Located in Fayette County, it was once a prosperous and thriving area. After the Great Depression, fires, and technology advances this place became a shadow of its former self. What's left, is a reminder of the past.
Inside Bellaire, Ohio | How Did It Get Like This? Hoods N Hollers 2026-04-12 | Inside Bellaire, Ohio...how did it get to this point? Once a thriving area with glass manufacturing, steel, coal mining, railroads, now a shadow of what it was used to be. After the industrial decline this area has lost a significant part of its population, and has continued to suffer as no recovery is really in sight. Very interesting place though, with lots of rich history inside. The movie "The Silence of the Lambs" filmed a memorable scene on the old Bellaire Bridge. I also check out the Great Stone Viaduct, and even see the haunted Bellaire House along the way...So many cool things so let's get to it!

Although there has been much revitalization here, there's still a lot of abandoned buildings and homes due to the industrial/coal decline. Crime is not so great either, sitting around 45% OVER the National Average on violent crime. Theft and property crime is quite an issue as well. Poverty is 22.4%, however the median household income is around 68k. Let's take a look at it!

Severe decline from the industrial era collapse, including the automotive industry. Once an amazing thriving area, now a mere shadow of its former self. The violent crime rate is.... 741% OVER the National Average...unreal. The poverty level is 46.1%, and the population is significantly dwindled over 80% down to 8,600 residents. An unreal amount of abandoned buildings falling in, homes abandoned, its truly sad. Recovery looks grim, but possible. Let's check some of it out.

With a poverty level of 23.7%, a 56% crime rate OVER the National Average, and having lost 50% of it's population since the 1960's, Niagara has had it rough to say the least. As millions of people visit the falls each year, perhaps many arent aware that a few streets over, it's quite a bit different from the tourist areas. Abandoned businesses, homes, vacant lots, are a grim reminder of what used to be a beautiful thriving city. Let's check out some of the hardest hit areas.

Cottondale, Florida | A Panhandle Town Left Behind? Hoods N Hollers 2026-02-16 | Today I'm going into and exploring Cottondale, Florida. Located in Jackson County, its home to about 894 residents. Entering the city, it's quickly obvious that it has unfortunately seen better days. Many abandoned homes here, along with a lot of empty forgotten commercial businesses. Poverty level is around 18%, and income per capita is about 21,000 dollars. The area was a thriving place one time around the early 1900's dealing with production of corn, cotton, and tobacco. Sadly though after crop infestations, much of that went away. The area has also dealt with natural disasters including Hurricane Michael, creating severe economic hardships. A recovery doesn't seem to be in the near future, but its a charming little town with a tight knit community, so hopefully one day. Let's take a look

Whats Iaeger West Virginia Look Like at Night? Hoods N Hollers 2026-01-17 | Here's what Iaeger, West Virginia looks like at night. I took a drive through to explore the area and to see what's going on. Located in McDowell County, one of the poorest areas in the country, it was a grim reminder of what it used to be. Iaeger was largely built up from the coal industry, and after the severe decline and collapse, it's never really recovered. With a population currently around 243, it's got a long ways to go. Still, a very beautiful area tucked away in the Appalachia Mountains, let's check it out at night.
Titusville, Pennsylvania | The Birthplace of the American Oil Industry Hoods N Hollers 2026-01-09 | Titusville, the Birthplace of the American Oil Industry, is located in Crawford County Pennsylvania. Population sits around 5146 residents, much less than what it was in the days of the Oil Boom. Founded in 1796 by Jonathan Titus, this area began as a small agriculture and lumber community. By 1859, it became home to the first successful commercial oil drilling well at 69.5 feet deep. As the boom began, the area went from 250 residents to well over 10,000 residents. Pipelines, railroads, and refineries sparked the oil rush. Unfortunately, over drilling depleted the oil fields rather quickly, and markets shifted to other states like Texas, California, Ohio, and Oklahoma. The market became saturated and crashed. Titusville suffered floods, fires, and overall economic decline. Today Titusville shifted to lumber, steel, plastics, but never really regained it's boom era prosperity. Still, quite a beautiful area, let's check it out!

Located in Holmes County, it is located in the Northern Panhandle and has a population of about 518. Named after the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, whom led the first known European expedition in 1513 and gave the region it's name of "La Florida". As the population slowly declines, poverty combined with limited job opportunties have left abandoned homes and businesses to fade away. Tionesta is located in Forest County and is home to about 405 residents. Nestled in the Allegheny National Forest, its an amazingly beautiful place to see in the Autumn with its rich foilage. Once a booming area with lumber production, oil extraction, and river transportation, now heavily relying on tourism and outdoor activities. Let's check it out.
Newell, West Virginia | Inside Appalachias Pottery Capital Hoods N Hollers 2025-12-21 | Newell is located in Hancock County, West Virginia. Population is around 1,216 residents. Sitting along the Ohio River, it's right in the middle of the pottery capital along side of East Liverpool, Ohio. The town's economy was largely built around the pottery industry in the early 20th century. By 1907 the world's largest pottery plant opened in Newell, giving the Homer Laughlin China Company a combined capacity of up to 300,000 pieces per day at one point. With the access to the Ohio River transportation, railroad, natural gas, and abundance of clay made the location ideal for large scale production. Today things are a little different, as much of the decline began with pottery after World War II. However, today there is still production to keep the economy going somewhat, and while the area survived better than most, Homer Laughlin has rebranded to Fiesta Tableware Company as of 2020. It was once a thriving area with coal mining, coke production, and iron smelting from the 1800's till the Great Depression era in the 1930's. What Happened To Chester, West Virginia? Hoods N Hollers 2025-12-01 | Chester, West Virginia is located in the Northern Panhandle along the Ohio River in Hancock County. This Rust Belt City was once a thriving hub for pottery and ceramics in the 1900's and is located within America's "Pottery Capital" Region. With the decline of the industrial era, unfortunately the area has lost a significant amount of jobs, and population contines to go down each year by 1.4%. The poverty level is around 11%, and the population sits around 2,081. Nearby steel and glass mills along the Ohio River also shut down, affecting Chester's economy significantly. Inside The Rust Belt City of Salamanca New York Hoods N Hollers 2025-11-17 | I went to Salamanca, New York to see what it was really like. With a population of 3,877 and a poverty level of over 24%, its been on the decline ever since the ending of the industrial era. A once thriving area with railroad activity, lumber, tanning, furniture, and metal works productions in the late 1800's early 1900's, it's seen better days. The land is owned by the Seneca Nation and there are lease agreements to residents and buildings. With the building nearby of highways, construction of Kinzua Dam, and overall economic decline has caused quite an impact to the area. It's losing population each year, and a recovery isnt exactly in sight. However, still a really cool looking place, many charming buildings and homes. Let's take a look
Ridgway Pennsylvania in Autumn | A Cozy Small-Town Escape Hoods N Hollers 2025-11-14 | Ridgway, Pennsylvania is located in Elk County and is home to 3,906 residents. It has been on the National Historic Register since 2003 (often called "Lily of The Valley" for it's Victorian era homes). In the 1880's, it began as a booming area for lumber, tanning, and powder manufacturing. After the early 1900's the timber industry became exhausted, tanning factories moved elsewhere, and powder manufacturing came to a stop. Many beautiful mansions were demolished or subdivided, as many people had to leave and find jobs elsewhere. The poverty level today stands at around 20%. Today it's home to outdoor activity, tourism, and arts. Let's take a look!

Population currently is 593 residents. Once a thriving hub for coal, farming, railroad, and the oil industry back in the 19th century, now in decline after the industrial era.
