In this video, I’m out shooting with a 4x5 Pinhole Camera (the Ilford Obscura), for the first time. I run through the entire process, shooting Ilford Delta 100 film, then jumping back in the office to develop and scan and review the images.
This is something that I recently picked up to potentially use for some select images in my Slate City project. I have zero experience with pinhole cameras, so I wanted to test it out first, to learn how to use it and get a feel for what the photos look like. I have to say, after this first outing, I was impressed. It seems like it will be a great tool that gives a very unique look.

After a few weeks of major creative burnout with my photography, and trying to 'work through it', I finally decided to switch my approach and experiment with some different things, which helped me get over the hump and left me more excited about photography than I have been in a while.
In this video, I want to share these eight creative photography exercises, in hopes that it gives you some ideas of things to try if you're lacking energy and interest with your own work.

As new camera tech advances at a rapid pace, it can be easy to forget that older digital cameras, even some dating back almost 20 years ago, are still very capable, and that massive megapixel counts often aren’t a necessity.
I was inspired to make this video after digging through my photo archives recently and remembering how much I enjoyed some of the early digital camera systems I used in the past. We'll look at some of my older images and edit some raw files to see how they hold up. At the very least, I hope this serves as a reminder about the potential that older digital cameras still have.
I hope you enjoy it!

In this video, I'm off on a photography road trip, logging over 1000 miles across Wales and England, shooting with a Rittreck 6x6 and Rolleiflex 3.5F. The purpose of this trip was partly to test the new Hasselblad CFV100C for a review I was working on, but also just a way to grab a couple of film cameras and hit the road with no set plan in place—photography for the fun of it.
This was a trip full of surprises—broken cameras, interesting encounters, and some wild location discoveries—but overall, it was just a great reminder of what’s most important to me as a photographer.

In this video, I’m putting together a fine art print portfolio for my ongoing project ‘Slate City’. This is something I’ve wanted to do as the project develops, as a way to get the images off the screen and into a physical collection.
In this video, I test out a few different fine art papers for black-and-white printing, pick a size and source out a portfolio box, prep my selects from the project for printing, and then share the final results. I hope this inspires you to get out there and print your own work!
As mentioned in the video, this was sponsored by WhiteWall, but all opinions, direction, and creative control are my own, just like with everything on this channel.

In this video, I head out to visit a bombing range in the New Forest in England, where some of the largest bombs used in WW2 were tested. This is an incredible place that I've struggled to photograph in the past, so this time I brought along a ladder, hoping the elevated viewpoint would help me out. Shooting this one with the Hasselblad H3Dii-39, and the GFX100s—two cameras that I'm trying to decide between for this work moving forward.

In this video, I head out for a day to shoot some expired 4x5 Kodak Vericolor III film. The goal for the day was to hunt down some old classic British petrol stations and pumps and see if this film was worth shooting.
I also take you through the entire process, including developing it back in the office, scanning it (multiple ways—GFX100 and Epson V700), and going over the results.

Today’s video is the start of a new series on the channel titled ‘Process’, which are short documentary films I’ll be making, each featuring a photographer and their work—diving into their creative journey, with a focus on the lessons that they’ve learned along the way.
For the first instalment, I’m featuring my friend Nicholas J. R. White, who is a photographer currently based out of the highlands of Scotland, but who grew up in Dartmoor in the south of England.
This is a film about the importance of photographing local areas, and how Nicholas created two significant bodies of work in Dartmoor, after initially struggling with the challenges of familiarity and lack of inspiration that can come with it.
I hope you enjoy this one. I’m hoping to make some more of these in the future when time allows!

In this video, I'm talking about my two current long-term photo projects and some things that helped me find direction and clarity with them after they both started out as very loose ideas. These are approaches and ways or working that also have helped me to find subjects and things to photograph, as well as creative ideas.
I hope this video gives you some food for thought, and helps you take action on your ideas.

I recently had the chance to test out Valoi’s new product, the easy35, and it quickly has become my favourite way to scan 35mm film at home. I’ve been using their advancer setup for the past year, and while I love (and need) the versatility that it brings, the easy35 is so simple to use and gives you the same results. In this video, I’m doing an overview of the easy35, and also showing you the scanning process, as well as how I convert my film after it’s digitised. We’ll also look at some images comparing the easy35 and camera scanning to other available methods.
*As mentioned in the video, this is sponsored by Valoi, but like with everything on this channel, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

In this video, I’m giving myself the challenge of leaving the Fuji X-H2s at home using the iPhone 15 Pro Max as my main camera to film a photo trip out to the Brecon Beacons. I’ve never been that intrigued by iPhone footage, but the recent addition of Apple LOG sold me on the 15, and it’s certainly lived up to my expectations.
You can download a few LOG clips here if you want to mess around with them: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QFXRnWj2JL5qZ03ds8I6XGMEzEhWmbEg?usp=drive_link

A few months back I was able to get my hands on some tester rolls of Harman’s new Phoenix Colour 200 film, and shot a variety of scenes here in the UK, as well as a few exposure tests in my office, which revealed a lot and were pretty surprising. This is an interesting one. It’s like no other colour-negative film I’ve shot when it comes to flexibility and latitude, and things change quickly depending on how you expose it, which is why I think we’ve seen so many different-looking Phoenix 200 images (that and scanning/conversion).
Also, Harman did send me this film, but there was no agreement to make anything, and this isn’t sponsored. I hope this helps ya!

In this video, I’m sharing my experience shooting with the Fuji GX680II, after owning one for the past month, including some images, features I love, as well as some issues that I’ve had. This is a fully featured 6x8 medium format film camera that is very appealing but also can be a bit limiting, due to its size. It’s not going to be a fit for everyone, but for the right people, there’s a lot to love about it.

You can check out SmartConvert here: https://www.filmomat.eu/
For this month's episode of 'In Focus', I'm taking a look at a new standalone software for converting film scans, called SmartConvert by Filmomat (best known for their automatic film processors). I'm going to run you through the program, convert some images, and also compare a few against conversions done with Negative Lab Pro.
This wasn't paid for or sponsored by Filmomat, and I don't get anything if you buy the software. Just thought it could interesting to dive into this, test it out, and share the results.

Today in this video I'm going to talk about the top five things that can cause your images shot on film to look bad or underwhelming—causing problems like colour casts, muddy shadows, flat contrast, or even just images that don't meet your expectations.
There's nothing worse than getting started with film and not knowing why certain things look the way they do. The goal of this video is to help you lock down a simple but effective workflow that will allow you to get the most from the film you shoot.

In this video, I'm off to explore and photograph one of the most fortified islands in the world—Alderney, which is part of the Channel Islands. Me and my good friend Neil (check out his YouTube here: bit.ly/46dFiCj), are jumping in a plane for a quick trip over to scout the island and make some images. For this one, I'm leaving the 4x5 camera at home, and bringing the GFX50R and Epson R-D1s to scout some frames and get some ideas for a longer return trip to this amazing place.

In this video, I'm reviewing the Noble Design 6x17 Film Camera. If you're interested in shooting 6x17 medium format film, there's only a handful of camera options to choose from—some being quite expensive.
The one I'm testing in this video, by Noble Design, is an intriguing option, as it's a little more cost-friendly than some of the well-known cameras, and it's also lightweight and very simple to use. In this video, I'm sharing my experience and thoughts after using the ND6x17 a number of times over the past few months. It was my first time shooting this wide format and one that I had a lot of fun with.

In this video, we're taking a look at some of the most expensive, rare, and weirdest film cameras and lenses ever sold at auction. After doing a deep dive recently on some auction sites, I was fascinated by a world of film gear that I never knew existed—including the world's most expensive lens, a few space cameras, a ridiculously pricey Leica, and even a camera for a pigeon.
Also, just want to say a big thanks to Leitz Photographica Auction (www.leitz-auction.com) and Wetzlar Camera Auctions (www.wetzlarcameraauctions.com) for allowing the use of their images in this video.
Enjoy!

When I first started photography almost twenty years ago, I was sure that the key to growth was to simply get better at making photographs. But over the years I've come to learn that regardless of how much skill you have, it's your approach and mindset that will determine your future. So in this video, I'm sharing three simple things that I've found to be incredibly important to understand and manage correctly if you want to hit your goals.

In this video, I’m spending a morning on the English Coast with the Fuji GS645W and a few rolls of Kodak Ektar, testing this camera out after recently getting it back from repair. I also talk about why this is quickly becoming one of my favourite medium format film cameras, and also why it might not be the best choice for everyone.

I'd never heard of the Rittreck Revue, until stumbling upon it online one evening, for a price that I couldn't pass up. It looked very familiar though, and it turns out it's the predecessor of the more common Norita 66. Both are 6x6 SLR cameras with one of the most unique medium format film lenses ever made—the 80mm f2. In this video, I'm sharing some information about the Rittreck, as well as testing it to see if it works and sharing images from my first few rolls.

Six years after making my first images in the American West, the project has come to a close and I'm excited to finally hold my first photobook in hand, titled 'An American Mile'. In this video, I'm sharing three (plus a bonus) of the most important lessons I learned as I reflect on the entire process, including discovering the project, making the work, and bringing it all together for this monograph. I hope this helps you in some way with your own work!

I'm back in North Wales for two days of film photography, shooting 4x5 with the Horseman 45FA and medium format with the Fuji GS645W and Pentax 67. I'm exploring the old abandoned slate quarries and making work for my ongoing project. Lots of rain, a broken camera, and an incredible landscape.

Today we're taking a look at my favourite large-format film camera, the Horseman 45FA. This metal field camera is incredibly compact yet still very capable, but it's not for everyone. In this video, I'm going to share my experience so far with the 45FA, its features, and a couple of shortcomings and things to keep in mind if you're thinking of picking one of these up.

Using colour filters when shooting black and white film can give you subtle, yet impactful changes that can’t be exactly replicated in post-processing. So in this video, I’m testing out a handful of different filters with the Pentax 67 and Ilford HP5 film to see if any would work well for the environments I shoot in and subjects I focus on. This was a fun test and in the end, I found a few that I’ll definitely use moving forward. Hope this helps ya!

The Rolleiflex 3.5F is definitely one of the iconic cameras in the film world and one that I’ve wanted to try for a while now. With a new project on the horizon, I decided I’d switch things up and work with a TLR, and the Rollei seemed like it could be a great fit. In this video, I’m heading out to shoot my first few rolls with this camera, make sure everything is working, and get a feel for what it’s like before I jump into making serious work with it. This is a camera that hooked me, very quickly!

Proper preparation is what makes a fine art photography print. So in this video, we're going to make a few prints, including a large acrylic version, and I'm going to share my workflow and how I prep my images to get the best results possible when printing through a lab. This is a fairly simple straightforward process, but one that has served me well for years.

In this video, I’m sharing five simple creative ideas that can help you find a subject or an idea for your next photography project. I think we often miss a lot of opportunities by only looking for the grand or dramatic, so I hope these ideas get the creative flow going and make you realise there are stories everywhere waiting to be documented.

I’ve often said how the Mitakon 65mm on the Fuji GFX reminds me of the legendary Pentax 6x7 and 105mm f2.4 combo. But is this just me romanticising things? How close does it actually come? So in this video, sharing my thoughts about this lens I love, including a bunch of images, and some direct side-by-side comparisons with the Pentax. The results surprised me! Shoutout to @Tom-Humble for helping me with this one. Go and give him a follow

My first time shooting back in Ontario, Canada, since moving to England almost three years ago. This is from a trip back in 2022, and it's a video that I finally got around to editing. I'm out for the day making some photographs with the Fujifilm GFX50R and Contax Zeiss 45mm 2.8 at an abandoned go-kart track and also talking about the importance of going all in on what interests you the most.

Been a couple years since I've done one of these videos on the channel, and after numerous questions about specific pieces of gear I'm using, I thought it would be helpful to do a breakdown of the cameras, lenses, and accessories I use as my main film photography kit including medium format and large format.

This is something that I definitely didn't think was going to happen, and that I'm incredibly excited about. I wanted to make this quick video to share my thoughts and what I want to see, and I also want to start up a conversation to hear what your wants/needs are. I think all interest, ideas, and excitement will only help move this forward.

In this video I’m back in North Wales in the Blaenau Ffestiniog area, to explore and photograph some new subjects, including an incredible abandoned slate quarry, shooting 4x5 film with the Horseman 45FA. I create some of my favourite images yet and also reflect on one important lesson I was reminded of.
