I've seen a ton of experimental horror movies over the last few years, from the analog horror-inspired Skinamarink, the Nickelodeon-inspired I Saw the TV Glow, Talk to Me, The Light House, Late Night with the Devil, and probably a bunch more that I can't remember (or don't want to in the case of She Came from the Woods).
While many of these films end up doing some really interesting things, pushing the genre in ways that your typical horror narrative might not be able to do, I think this wave of experimental horror films would be even stronger if it paid more attention to the weird fiction and new weird movements.
This past week, Netflix surprised all of us by dropping Godzilla Minus 1, and fans of the film can finally rewatch the black and white version of the film by renting or purchasing it digitally (and I assume physical media releases won't be far behind, hopefully).
I saw the color version of Minus 1 in theaters but didn't get the chance to see Minus Color in the same way. So last night, I had a chance to sit down and watch it and test whether all my favorite YouTube movie critics were right about this specific version of the film.
That being that the black and white version is superior in many ways, making Godzilla feel more frightening and making the effects feel more real, with comparisons to it being like an updated version of the original 1954 film Gojira.

Welcome back to the Storyrant Podcast, we're back this week with a new episode on the Fallout show on Amazon Prime! CT Phipps is joining me again for the discussion, as he and I are massive Fallout fans.
The question today is, did Fallout stick the landing, and is the recent string of good to great video game adaptations a trend, are filmmakers learning from past mistakes, and what can they do to ensure future adaptations are just as good as the winners?

Welcome back to the Storyrant Podcast, it's been a while, but let's get into it. C.T. Phipps is the author of Cthulhu Armageddon, the Dark Destiny saga, and the popular Supervillainy series of books. He's also a champion of indie books, being a prominent reviewer for Grimdark Magazine, Before We Go Blog, and more.
But recently, he was banned by Amazon for--what you'll learn in today's show--a pretty arbitrary thing.

And it comes down to character arcs, flaws, and a noticeable and frustrating lack of training arcs.
Karl Smallwood joins me today to talk about the importance of physical media on culture. We're about to get all nostalgic for childhood media memories.

Probably the most insufferable child character I've had to tolerate in a LONG. LONG. TIME.
