The Calm After My Storm - an original song harriet b 2025-12-27 | This is another attempt at creating a song using Garageband app - the guitar and piano can sound quite generic so I may record it properly with Sebastian at some point, but he’s on a break and I have other songs rattling around. This is a love song but the inspiration for this song came from a blog I read about a week ago. I submitted a few Christmas songs to Radio Christmas which is based in Amersham, Bucks-and which they kindly played. The show broadcasts also from Guatemala, where the founder of the charity Street Kids Direct lives. Duncan did live broadcasts each day throughout December in the wee small hours of the morning each day from there and spoke often about the work they do on the ground to help street kids, providing education, running bakeries where kids learn a skill and many other things. And he wrote a blog that really touched me. In it he told how kids would often come in just to say hello to the volunteers out there and often these kids were anxious and some would ask for a hug. But one child came along and they weren’t quite sure what she wanted until he pointed at another child getting a hug and she simply said she wanted one of those- she didn’t know what hugs were or what they were called, she just knew he wanted one, and I just thought that was the saddest thing I’d heard in a long time. I had to write a song about that- it will make more sense if you’ve read this far. The Perfect Place To Be - an original song harriet b 2025-11-03 | Good news, I’m getting over my flu but I’m still not well enough to see Benson Boone tonight at the O2 but thankfully I was able to give the tickets to friends who can go at short notice - it’s short notice because, the state of online ticket purchases these days, you get the tickets on the day of the concert and it was a nightmare downloading the app,registering, trying to transfer them - they didnt get them, online “help” went round in circles, contacting them on twitter etc, no humans to help on these sites - bring back paper tickets delivered at least a week in advance I say. They finallly got them and they are very excited and I’m happy the tickets didn’t go to waste. I love Benson Boone. Anyway, still not 💯 so not sure if the song is a bit high or it’s just the flu affecting my voice still and, for info, I wrote this while suffering a fever - can you tell? 😀😀😀 I was thinking how idyllic parts of California are. A Mother’s Son - an original song harriet b 2025-10-18 | @jonthomassings5003 sad song alert you might want to skip this one 😀😀😀I hope you’ll forgive the multiple posts but Ill be taking a break from YouTube for a week or two and I read an update about this case this morning and had to write this song today. It’s inspired by the death of a 14 year old boy who went missing for 6 days in my native town of Belfast until his body was found in a storm drain. By all accounts Noah was a very lovely boy and an exemplary student and for sure his mother’s pride and joy. There are so many questions surrounding Noah’s disappearance and death and how the case was handled, like why was it decided that his death was accidental, and with CCtV footage from 5 years ago only being disclosed yesterday, his mother was interviewed pleading for answers. I mean, as a mother, it just spoke to me. Perhaps the song is unfinished but so too is Noah’s story. I hope his mother finds peace and the truth she deserves.
