Zangief (Gunze) Beasting @ Star Cup 11Oct2009 pt2/2 True Games 2009-11-11 | Another great performance by a Gief master, who manages to reach the quarter finals of the 2009 Star Cup. Gunze uses the lariat frequently to trick the opponent into thinking they can safely throw projectiles or sweep Zangief, but since Gunze executes this move from a safe range, opponents are often caught out. After the lariat start-up, Zangief can be swept very easily if the opponent is in range but moving Zangief backwards and forwards while in the lariat makes the opponent either walk into the lariat thats still executing (because Gunze moved forward) or missing their sweep (because Gunze moved backwards). Some opponents opt to stand their ground and throw another projectile and completely underestimate the range of the lariat's hit-box (if Gief moves forward continuously) and still get knocked over. Gunze and Pony have very different styles and have both had their successes in the highest level of st comps. Its great to see two different styles being used Just as effectively as each other, this goes to show you dont always have to copy the best to have the same success rate. Zangief (Cantona) Owning @ A-cho RanBat 15May2008 True Games 2008-05-27 | The gief monster shows why zangief is ranked so high in the zero3 teir list. After ST zangief's pile driver range was reduced in the alpha series, however it is possible to get extra range by excuting the spin in a reversal situation. I create this scenario by executing my spins straight after a jump-in or after a crouching jab/short/forward. Contona gets the extra range spins by also taping jab while approaching his opponent. This becomes really effective because it is so hard read this move when cantona mixes this up with crouching fierces/roundhouses. Lets see if Cantona's skill can help him overcome beastly characters like Sagat, Cody and Dhalsim
